Same for me, just with parking when I knew the limits of the car but the instructor hit the brakes early! I swear instructors have a quota of people they can pass/ fail so they have to fail some people just to stay statistically consistent, earn the test association more money and not get called out. It's bullshit, but you just have to try again.

The most surprising part here was how Marko told Max he was promoted. Just in a byline during dinner in Austria. For years I thought Max woke up in the morning, saw his phone buzz and picked up to hear Marko giving him the good news. It was on a Tuesday? I still remember very well the moment the news broke in Netherlands. I was on my bicycle on a ride to Schiphol, and when I rode into Hoofddorp the 11 o'clock radionews announced the very first item: "Max Verstappen promoveert per direct naar het hoofdteam van Red Bull Racing". I was so excited I gained extra speed on the bicycle.

Verstappen had the chance to sign for the Mercedes junior programme in 2014. He signed for Red Bull instead... And you have to remember that Vettel and Hamilton, the two youngest champions, started older than Verstappen. Hamilton started aged 22 yet nearly won in his first season!

I remember that race vividly. I was visiting a friend in Northern Ireland that weekend. He had both Channel 4 and Sky F1, but the latter was through some sort of illegal decoder so it was on and off, so when it was, I switched back to C4. The end of the race, I watched on C4 with Ben and DC. Marvelous commentary! "I cannot believe it, I cannot believe it!!" Coincidently, I had just moved from Holland to Northern Ireland back in 1994 when I saw Jos Verstappen getting his first podium in F1 during Hungary 1994. 7 years later on, there was an event in Belfast arranged by Orange (they even had an Orange Arrows F1 show car out on the street) and I got to meet Jos Verstappen in person during a lunch, who was still my F1 hero. I am typing this whilst wearing an official team member Orange Arrows fleece, the same Jos had on during that event. Coincidentally, besides the Orange brand, it has a lot of Red Bull embroidery on it. Like father, like son 😁 So, yes, you could say that I'm a Verstappen fan.
