Honda Masanobu is presented to us in the Shogun TV show as Kashigi Yabushige. Masanobu existed in the tumultuous era of the Sengoku period, marked by fierce Samurai Lords competing for supremacy, each aspiring to claim the coveted title of Shogun amidst a backdrop of extreme violence and upheaval.
In the midst of the chaos and devastation, Honda Masanobu, a relatively insignificant daimyo, forged an alliance with Tokugawa Ieyasu and would become one of his closest friends and retainers with the two communicating in code in many meetings to secretly communicate without others knowing. Yet, their relationship wasn't always amicable with the two even going to war against one another at one point. The Sengoku period was a time of warlords engaging in intricate mental warfare, involving schemes, betrayals, alliances, and enemy eliminations. It was a brutal contest of psychological manipulation and conflict. Amidst this turmoil, Masanobu emerged as a prominent figure, ascending to one of the highest echelons of power in Japan. This is story.

It was the grunts. The show goes to great lengths to let you know that the Japanese characters are hiding their true motivations, but Yabu is the most transparent to us, both because we see him betray Toranaga outright and because he vocalizes many of the same reactions the audience feels as things appear to go sideways for Toranaga.

Interesting but no notes left by Clavel indicates that Yabushige (Yabu in the book and 80s show) is inspired by Honda Masanobu the two Characters are really really different. When one switches side continuously the other stay realialble and is a good friend of Ieyasu. One is a field warrior the other is a bureaucrate wispering behind the curtains. Also the destiny and end of both Characters is. different. The closest we have from Masanobu is really Toda Hiromatsu. Even of the last is inspired by Fujitaka Hosokawa, the long time loyalty and friendship and the âge reminds of Honda. Yabu and Omi were created characters with no direct inspirations

In the fx shogun Wikipedia page, it states which characters are based off who according to the show runners narrative, u fortunately clavel is no longer with us to clarify this. I am going with the fx shogun narrative as it’s quite clear and logical. Clavel also drastically changed the personalities and deeds of many characters. Same as Bernard Cornwell did in the last kingdom series. All characters were based on Anglo Saxon nobles and vikings. Their deeds characters were changed alot. It comes with the territory of writing fiction when it’s based off real events however I understand your point. This series is simply meant to portray the true lives of some of the characters anyway I hope you enjoyed the video

@@historyprofilesbut no confirmed by Clavel or essaies he wrote. Yabu is the representation of the small daimyos who had to take sides and navigate trough turmoils. If u rode the book and watched the 80s show u will realized they are different Characters. Hiromatsu on the other hand is really close to Masanobu (minus the cunning part) . Inspired.by Fujitaka Hosokawa, the last didn't do much during this part of Sengoku era (he wast a bigger player earliers with the Ashikaga). Clavell. mixed multiple Characters and took. liberties like the 3 régents. Only one is inspired by Maeda Toshiee the two others inspirations (Otani and Konishi were different)

Truth be told. I know a lot about the period, without being blessed to have my own channel. And yes Clearly I don't know it all. So that's why I hunt for more information as well as I enjoy other views and reviews. To get more knowledge. Honda isn't Kashigi Yabushige. Honda would be about 61 at the time period. A much more loyal general at this period of time than this character in Shogun. Honda would be more than likely one of the other generals in the war room in episode 8. Seated in the front row. Because of his importance to Toranaga(Ieyasu). I clearly deflect the fact that the writer has much more of a story to tell than a history lesson to teach. That's why more so than not. The history and historical facts are changed for the book and series of Shogun. But Honda was such an accomplished general and leader in his own right. Yes early in his life he had friction with Ieyasu. But by this period and the year that these actions take place. Honda was a very loyal general. As close to his Right head man as any. So no sir. You aren't correct about the character you are attempting to describe. Let's understand. Your viewers are getting some, some, history and historical facts. But they better not take your information and use it on a history test. They may not pass. 😂 I love history! I love and enjoy learning as much about most cultures and their rich long history. So please, you can be free to entertain. But if you even have one fact wrong, Without confirmation, clarity, or even if you just came out and said this is your opinion on who this character represents. Well I would've just passed by without a comment. But sir, you are attempting to say these are historical facts. Which you are then discrediting and dishonoring the man Honda. What did he do to you?

@@gregbarthjr9621 Greg, if you go on the shogun fx tv programme it tells you who yabushige is loosely based on. All I did was tell the life story of who the show identified on who yabushige was based on. I don’t cover the fictional character at all. I tell the real story of Honda masanobu who the show identified him as, so if there was a history lesson and they asked a question about him yes they would pass.
