@@attiepollard7847 Bret Hart vs Savage doesn't work for the simple fact there would be a problem with the finish. Bret uses a submission move as his finisher and Savage doesn't quit to anybody. Presumably the whole point of Savage facing Bret is to pass the torch Hogan ducked before leaving, but I would rather have seen Hogan submit to the Sharpshooter than Savage, I think it would have been more believable. Before you use the Stone Cold example - Savage passing out to the Sharpshooter would have done nothing for Bret, it's all about the recipient in those cases. Besides that, Savage had done that before with Flair, so would have had no shock factor with the crowd. Shawn vs Savage and Shawn getting a clean win by knocking Savage out, would have been an easier sell.

Part of me wonders how much of it was because Savage would somewhat outshine all the other talent he worked with. Shawn and Bret really weren't huge names yet, they developed during the time he was on commentary but if he was still active, would people have wanted Savage more? To me, this really shows how Vince's reality was limited to how he saw things. He was mad because he thought Savage would be there forever but did he ever talk to Savage about it? Apparently he wasn't locked into a contract since he could give notice and walk away. It also makes me think of TNA - when Vince didn't have any more use for you, he could let you go because he didn't think that anyone else could use you successfully. That is part of why Hogan left, and obviously why Savage left and look what happened to WCW. When WCW closed, there were a ton of names that Vince didn't want to ended up over at TNA - Dusty, Steamboat, etc. When TNA started pickup up some momentum, when those people proved they would still contribute to the industry, suddenly wwe had Legend's contracts to get them away from TNA and any other competition. Vince had a hard time seeing what others saw, Randy working with Shawn would be something we still talk about today but Vince couldn't see it, in his reality Randy wasn't a big wrestling star anymore despite fans still thinking of his as one. He saw the "Pro-wrestling as Hollywood" entertainment side of it WWF was ahead of most companies let alone wrestling companies in having an internet presence You can point out all the dudes he got wrong, point out the WBF, the XFL (twice), the nonsense storylines he promoted, his numerous scandals and fucked up perverted personality. But none of that undoes that he legitimately took a regional niche company worth about $10,000,000 and turned it into a global multi-billion dollar industry that is one of the most recongized brands in the world. It’s kinda ridiculous that Vince wouldn’t let Randy Savage wrestle because he was 40. Meanwhile look at many wrestlers who are at or near the age 40 today, still at the top of their game.
@franklingoodwin19 күн бұрын
It really wasn't. 40 in the 90s isn't what it is these days, especially for athletes. Also wrestlers are protected far more these days in ring than back then.

Macho Man going to WCW was a good thing he still had a lot to offer in the ring with up coming new Stars.....Vince being stubborn and not useing him was stupid....WCW good or bad had no trouble useing Macho Man. bottom line he wasn't ready to end his career.

Randy's in ring work is second to none and you know it'll be a good match because he was one of the few of his generation who took the business seriously and had a true passion for giving an insane character with compelling promos. Why WWE didn't keep him a top guy is stupidity to the utmost degree and luckily there was a second chance for him in his later years.

The Macho Man is still one of the most recognizable wrestlers, even today. A lot of people that have not ever watched wrestling know who he is, and that's considering that he has not wrestled on TV in nearly 25 years. I kind of wonder if Macho might have gotten over more than Hogan in today's society.

it's literally a thing that was invented on the internet by random people and passed along over the years... nobody in the business discusses it because for one, no one wanted to run afoul of who was then the big boss, but also because it's a made-up story that people chose to believe just because. At best, it's fan fiction.

I remember Macho Man being so over during that last Royal Rumble of his when he tried pinning Yokozuna and Yoko kicked out of the pin by pressing Randy up and over the rope.😆 It's funny to think about now but it was So deflating back then, I and many others wanted to see Macho Man have another run. Vince absolutely would've done it if the situation had been happening through out these more recent 15-20 years but back in the early 90's he was too stupid and stubborn. It's unfortunate how bad the Macho King's body must have been doing towards the time of that TNA appearance. Gonna think about him for the rest of my days "DIG'IT!"👍😄

do we still see Wrestlers promoting products outside of whenever Smackdown/Raw is running? Because I feel like I don't see Commercials featuring wrestlers outside of Mondays/Fridays. The only reason I mention is because those Slim Jim commercials with Randy used to run all over the place at all times of the day.

Bischoff has said that Slim Jim paid Macho's contract which means Savage didn't get any money from WCW only the continued time in the ring he wanted and deserved.

Savage and Flair wrestled some FANTASTIC matches in the early 90’s I know I was there to see them live. The attendance wasn’t great because the WWF product as a whole from say late 1992 on SUCKED, Savage, Flair,Hart and Michaels were holding it together on a string. Too me when Savage jumped ship and Flair went back to WCW it became the top wrestling promotion and stayed that way until they folded in 2001

I'm an 80s kid and grew up during the Hulkamania era. As the years go on I'm more and more convinced he was the greatest wrestler of the era and one of the greatest of all time. By that I mean wrestling ability, promos, charisma, and generally fascinating personality taken as a whole. Really sucks how Vince can screw people over based on personal whims. And really, Vince can go screw himself for thinking Savage should remain loyal despite being sidelined regardless of how good he still was.
