Why didn't you talk about the final scene of the film? It's really important imo. The viewers who were spellbound by Truman's escape immediately return to their daily lives in complete apathy. I would say this is hugely applicable today with people's attention span for even very important events lasting mere minutes before they seek the next distraction.

I was watching the Truman show many years ago with my brother. he turned to me and asked don't you think Truman would have noticed a lot earlier, considering all the weird cover-ups that had to happen when things went wrong? A lot of strange things happen in our world. A lot of people would prefer to ignore them, as they intuitively know that pulling on any thread might leave that cloth in tatters. however, it seems many have a point where they can't pretend any longer, and we've seen that over the last two years

@TheRandomGangsta it's a heresy made by a man (Smith) who "found" an empty book that he claimed only he can read. A heresy that ultimately rejects the True Jesus, by rejecting Him as the Lord and Savior. They reject the testimonies of His followers, and reject historical evidence.

@@TheRandomGangsta Hey man, real talk. I'm a convert, I was baptized when I was 16 and went on a mission at 19 whole nine yards. Here's the thing dude, Mormonism is just another "dome" just like in The Truman Show. The indoctrination that starts at a very young age, the fake smiles you see when you set foot inside a chapel, even the temple ceremonies and ordinances are all there to just strengthen and reinforce the false reality. You are literally Truman before he realizes anything is wrong, he is totally oblivious to reality and happily goes about his day without questioning anything. You haven't "broken out of the Matrix", you've merely plugged into a different Matrix. Worse, anytime someone decides to leave the "church" then the bishop calls on faithful extras (members) like yourself to go see if you can't talk them into coming back. But just like Truman, they've seen things within the Mormon Church that just don't add up, and over time their reality collapses which causes them to leave. The Mormon Church brands ex members as "dangerous" and "can't be trusted with spiritual things" in an effort to limit the damage and keep everyone else plugged into their "reality", just like how in The Truman Show they do their best to keep Truman away from anyone or anything that could break his belief in "reality". Mormonism is just The Truman Show 2.0 flavored with Christianity. Seek the truth, it's out there. I know you're gonna double down and just bear your testimony and write me off as a filthy Ex-Mormon, believe me there was once a time when I would've did the same thing. All I will say is that the objective truth can withstand any scrutiny, and no just and loving God would punish his children for seeking after the objective truth. Cheers.

I remember almost nobody "got" this movie when it came out, it was just way ahead of it's time, most people didn't understand it's message. Then a few years later we got Big Brother, people became obsessed watching people stuck in a house all day forced to interact with other people until they mentally cracked, which then evolved into reality TV which was super fake but had insane obsessive fans. Now we are all being surveyed, watched, censored and controlled even if we don't want to be. It's quite shocking how much we've gained technologically and lost in privacy in 20 years.

But MTV did the first reality tv show in the US (that im familiar with) in 1992 called The Real World! Likely same premise. That was years before The Truman Show. The upsetting part is they don't even need to survey or control anyone. People seem to be so stupid and dense that there doesn't need to be an army of paid actors forcing you away from revealing any truths. In contrary to the film lots of what is taught and said is not completly wrong. There is often a true core to it what gets deceived and missused to manipulate and control people. Also there always exist people who truely want to think critical and want to motivate others to do so too. Jim Carrey did so good in this movie, because he usually does the more comedic roles like in Dumb and Dumber or Ace Ventura, but in this movie he was very good at acting scared because of what he felt wasn't real and felt relieved when he could finally leave the set of the world he thought was real, it was amazing how an actor who is known for very goofy roles, to play a role that yes was funny at times, but was also serious pretty much showing the true harsh reality of child actors who their entire lives had to be stared in movies and TV shows instead of having a proper childhood and life which affects them into adulthood. I think the part where Kristof talks about how Truman himself is the driving force of the show is important as well. The "viewers" and us as the movie viewers both want Truman to do well, but the fictional viewers believe that him doing well is to continue his fictional existence while we as viewers of the movie believe that the best thing is for him to figure out what is going on and get out. This is showing how people on the inside of a manipulative system can truly believe that it is in the best interest of the person to remain in that manipulative system, while people on the outside completely and genuinely believe that they need to escape the manipulation.

This movie came out with other "It's all fake/a simulation" movies, around then same time. The Matrix, Exiztenz, EDtv, The Thirteenth Floor and Dark City. This was interesting. The Truman Show is legitimate cinematic concept art. I think the most relevant part about it is that after all his messy failed escape attempts, he runs into a wall and finds out that the exit is just a doorway, and he's not even disappointed, just gives a formal goodbye and walks away. That's the lesson - there is no escaping this matrix, you gotta pray you'll find a door that leads to the unknown and then cut all your losses, say your goodbyes and just walk away on your own with only your faith.

Decades ago it was comedy, but now it’s a disturbing truth. Today’s society is about being a reality star in your own show, but your audience is also trying to be a reality star in their own show. Dangerous and easily consumed propaganda is available in our hands. Irrelevant worries from the other side of the world now houses deep issues in us for no reason other than humans being pulled towards fear and negativity. The few people trying to break the chain are the most devastating victims of cancellation.

The Truman show is a metaphor for spiritual awakening or enlightenment, right down to his “ascension” up the staircase. The world he lives in is entirely dependent on him. Similarly, how we perceive our world is entirely dependent upon us. We live in our own Truman shows in our own minds. For the awakened. Events in the world aren’t something to be feared, they are a product of our collective fears. The only way to escape is seek truth within oneself. The external finite world will never bring you peace and lasting happiness but you can bring peace and happiness to the world. We should focus on our own awakening, which is not the same thing as being “woke”. Being aware of unjust institutions isn’t enough, you have to go deep and see that even our perceptions of these injustices are an illusion. Truman had to turn away from his entire perceivable world and trust his inner knowing in order to escape. Facing and pushing through the fears that kept him trapped there (dark night of the soul) and finally he was free. Christof doesn’t so much represent a tyrannical government but Trumans ego. He’s the fake god. He thinks he is in control but without Truman he is nothing. He wants to keep Truman subjugated for his own existence. He tries to convince Truman that everything he’s created for Truman is for Truman but really it only exists to preserve himself and his position as the ultimate force in the whole Truman enterprise. Letting go of the belief that there is a force greater than oneself such as our governments is one of the greatest hurdles to freedom. The government is our creation. We are responsible. There is nobody else.

Thank you! So well said. I was beginning to worry that some might take the metaphor in quite a wrong direction. You have brought it home. Even if it might be just another version (as in the final scene), we won't know until we break through.

The biggest point in the entire video that separates the Truman show from our “reality” is when you said “Truman is willing to die for the truth” So many of us are ready for the collapse of this system, yet not nearly enough of us are willing to die for that cause (myself included) the powers that be will always sit in their ivory towers due to this fact alone.
@SHNASTDOG Жыл бұрын
Collapse of a system is not the way out. Lol that's how we all end up poor and dying of diseases that were cured 100 years ago. You don't replace a civilisation with chaos and caveman life. You have to continually upgrade it, evolve it, to become more and more civil. It'll never be better by starting back at 0 every time. 0 is where all the racism, murder, rape, starvation, and tribalism dwell. 0 is where we die in the winter and live to be 30. 0 is where might makes right and the savages that want to enslave others will do so with an iron fist.

There's a balancing price for any and everything. Before its said and done. You will wish you were dead. Not directed at you personally. Only who play the part. Were all actors you know. The world the stage.

I did. I stood in court and said if I have committed a crime (by not wearing a c0v1d facemask) then take my life. I looked the judge dead in the eye and he even asked me to repeat myself to make myself clear. I asked if he had a mother, and she had a heart attack would he call the police, or an ambulance? He knew where it was going so he made a joke about calling the fire service before an ambulance as to veer away from the simplicity and accountability of the answer of the question. The obvious was no, you wouldn't call the police due to a 'medical' emergency, so why was the police being used to arrest and bash people, even if there was in fact a pandemic, the correct response would be medical care - not police batons and handcuffs. After that everything was dropped quick smart, Jacinda left office (NZ), and then the rationalizing and minimization of the damage the elite did campaign began, and gaslighting the public into thinking they didn't have the sensibility nor reasonable cause for asking such questions. You say no one was willing to die for it. I was. I did. And I lost everything in the process. You're welcome. ❤

We may not have to die for the truth....because like Truman who was brainwashed at a young age to fear water because of his father's suppose FAKE death....He actually ended up fearing something that wasnt even REAL....Maybe going pass the illusion the show actually is trying to teach us that what we fear is not even real!!!!!!! as the bible says, that because of those who feared death, stayed trapped....(or something like that) They wouldnt have showed this movie if they didnt want you to know!!! Maybe the whole thing to your TRU self (inner man) is releasing imaginary fears and walking into your real reality thats always been waiting .
@yikess4521 Жыл бұрын
@@jwaugh319 I'm a little confused about the story. Were you sick with covid and running around in a hospital? That is the only way your analogy makes sense, because the police weren't "being used" to bash people that were sick with covid during the pandemic. They would however apprehend you if you waltzed into a hospital with no face mask during a pandemic. Cause in that case, the police would be necessary to prevent other people from getting sick. And the only way that situation would escalate to "police batons" is if you were to refuse and resist the police orders.
