@@johnladuke6475 But some things aren't mistakes, they're an ongoing pattern of behaviour and it's also very arbitrary to draw a line on when the ripple effects of something stop. 5 years is way too short for most things - inc election finance and fraud violations (I know other crimes have longer timeframes). The effects of Trump as President (his actions, policies & pardons, and those of his Supreme Court & other appointees, supporters in Congress & state legislatures, in the street, Jan 6, etc) and financial fraud cases (where family incomes are destroyed) will last for generations. I understand it makes sense for DAs to judge what's in the public interest to prosecute and not go after all older cases but they shouldn't be stopped from going after people because someone drew an imaginary line in a calendar. Especially when evidence often takes a long time to surface. Judges can still give shorter sentences if they feel time has healed some of the wounds, unless of course, if they have Mandatory Minimums - another stupid arbitrary policy.

That makes it pretty shameless clickbait, which would be bad enough on its own, but also *because* Trump wasn't indicted at the time of the video being released, Devin *doesn't have any information about what's actually in the indictment*, even if we're reasonably sure one is coming soon. So as soon as Trump *does* get indicted, all of the information in the video is going to be outdated and possibly even incorrect in some parts. So really, this whole video seems like a very poorly-conceived ploy that is so concerned with being the first person on the block with this story that it actually risks misinforming and confusing people. That all depends on the state and district in which the offense occured. Like in Texas there's mutual combat laws stating the state has no right to press charges on behalf of the participants. Basically if no one presses charges or there's a witness to it being mutual, then it's completely legal as long as no one dies or gets seriously injured. Spousal abuse doesn't fall under mutual combat and the state will press charges.

One of the biggest problems in any Trump-related case is the one most often ignored: Most people that know anything about the man either love him or hate him, so finding people who are completely impartial for legal cases is very difficult to do. This frequently may even be ignored on purpose, because both forms of strong bias regarding Trump can easily result in someone subtly favoring one side or another, and with how strongly most people feel about him, the rare neutral people are easily drowned out by one side that refuses to see error with him and another that will say just about anything to make him look bad.

The fact that the Statute of Limitations continues ticking even if you have a degree of immunity to prosecution - for example, if you were elected president of the United States of America - completely defeats its purpose, doesn't it? If, for 4 out of the 5 years you've got to sue for a particular crime you're unable to prosecute, how can you reasonably expect justice to be served? And if it's less than that, like 2 years in the case of misdemeanors, you're just... screwed, I guess. Wouldn't it make sense to put an SoL on hold for that period, and resume where it left off when the potential defendant's term in office has ended?

So constitutionally it's required that your home state or state of residency is the court to preside over you. So if you killed someone in Louisiana but you live in Texas you are subjected to a trial in Texas. It's to prevent a harsh bias court against you no matter what crime. Like if I went to your state, committed a crime that your community absolutely hates it gives me a chance to argue why I committed it without being shot down just by being stuck in your courts. But it does leave the possibility of your home court being influenced by specific individuals
