The crosscut was great, really gave the view of what is being changed

It would be interesting to see exactly what the different Blue vs. Yellow body shapes do, and how those shapes were developed.
@harrelsontrumpets2 жыл бұрын
the internal design of the cup entrance, throat entrance, throat diameter, throat exit, and backbore are far more important than the body shape.

Excellent to see the cutaway version. Initially kitting out my 5MM system felt a little overwhelming - these videos are very helpful in hearing the tonal difference one would expect from varying the size of a given part. Will you be doing similar videos for cup and backbore focused swaps? Maybe an overview of the way different pieces of the mouthpiece system generally interact with each other (e.g. what parts would you generally want to vary to get from warm to bright) - or is it just too many degrees of freedom to break it down for the typical player like that?.

Hi Scott, Yes, I will be filming new videos showing the interchangeability of all components. By the way, all of these videos do exist on our KZbin channel already, though they are a few years old.

@@harrelsontrumpets Yes, I recall watching several videos but I feel like the videos you are creating for the new series connects with me much better. Not to mention the camera and sound quality are generally much better. Have you any thoughts about making a kind of guideline decision tree / diagram of what to part(s) to consider changing first based on the sound you're trying to achieve (and maybe another for the problems the player is trying to address)?

@@verdedoodleduck we are always happy to work with you over the phone. This kind of tree cannot be created as we would need a different formula for every person. There are so many challenges with trumpet playing and choosing the best mouthpiece, that the spreadsheet on the back end would be extremely complicated. We got a quote on creating a web page to do this over 10 years ago and it was a $40,000 estimate back then. Give us a call and we'll help you 303.657.2747

@@harrelsontrumpets I was pretty sure that was the case. Fortunately, you're all very informative and enjoyable to talk with. :)

It would be fantastic to hear the same music on all throats without part when You are changing stuff. 😁

Jason: I really like the big, warm sound this mpc produces! Curious: why do you use red brass for the throats?
@harrelsontrumpets2 жыл бұрын
I use red brass for the entire mouthpiece on the SpectraTone Blue to improve efficiency and reduce exposure to lead. We offer yellow brass within the entire 5MM system, which is less expensive to produce and the retail price is lower. There is a very good chance that the entire industry will move to lead-free options in the coming years.

@@harrelsontrumpets does the yellow use red brass too?
@harrelsontrumpets2 жыл бұрын
@@GamerDad1987 currently, only Blue is made with red brass. However, we will eventually offer an upgrade option on all rims, cups, bodies, and backbores in red brass. The majority of throats will remain yellow brass for the foreseeable future.

That is a nice sounding horn.So the larger throat is warmer,and you can play softer. What is that Standard throat size in numbers . A 24?Does the larger throat take less wind ?
@harrelsontrumpets2 жыл бұрын
It's not softer, it is warmer. I can play louder with the larger throats than with a standard size. Here's the conversion chart from archaic drill numbers to thousandths of an inch: www.whyharrelson.com/throat-sizes.html
@paulgrimm2 жыл бұрын
@@harrelsontrumpets Ok . That chart really helps me understand . So the standard throat is about a 22 drill size. Thanks I’m narrowing down a set up that works for me.And the H cup is about a Bach B?
@harrelsontrumpets2 жыл бұрын
@@paulgrimm the throat included with SpectraTone Blue is the H155.22. You can choose to add 145, 150, 160, 165, 170, 175 in red brass and any other size in yellow brass.
@davidfulcher22832 жыл бұрын
Would you comment on how you do or don't feel a change in restriction. In other words if using a larger throat can effect the feel of the trumpet you play. I love the concept but until I know the size of the rim that works best for me not sure I want to spend money on mouthpiece right now. I am also going to have to get used to playing with a partical denture seeing how I broke one of my front upper teeth.
@harrelsontrumpets2 жыл бұрын
The air flow will change with each different throat size. The SpectraTone offers every rim size in 5 different profiles and you can exchange your rim if it doesn't fit right the first time.

Why have 7 throats and not 5 or 3 on a Blue spectratone?
@harrelsontrumpets2 жыл бұрын
It all depends on how much you want to adjust the tone color. Seven is the limit we are offering in red brass to fit SpectraTone Blue. You can get other sizes in yellow brass within the 5MM system.
