I'm 7 months post-partum and now my abs séparation is at 1 finger 🤗 my pelvic PT told me the more your abs are stronger, the more you can get a bigger abs separation! Probably what happened to you!

I just came from another community that said that a lot of her pregnancy workouts would lead to ab separation and boom, here she is with a 5 finger ab separation. This is why a trainer who is pregnant does not equal a pregnancy fitness expert. I would recommend you keep looking for someone who specializes in prenatal fitness.

For sure, do the follow up!! I am a trainer as well, and a mom of 2 teenagers. In all of my training, I didn't learn any of these exercises until I some continuing education on women specific training last summer. I had also been doing kegels and some ab work wrong, and in just a few weeks of doing them properly, I notices a huge difference! Every woman needs to know this, even if they aren't moms. As we age, the pelvic floor weakens for all of us!

Ab separation is a big problem for mother's, as well as athletes, POP (pelvic organ prolapse) is also super common post partum AND for athletes, one study I read estimated that 50% of mid-to-professional females athletes have some form of POP or DR. MUST decrease intra abdominal pressure to relieve these symptoms. I closed my four finger gap and reduced my POP by a whole grade by doing restorative core exercises. Absolutely any person can get diastasis recti, any person can have pelvic organ prolapse, even young women who never gave birth. The level of intra abdominal pressure is what causes it.

You can also use kinetic tape across your belly to support and be more aware of your core. Because things like twisting during workouts can stretch your abs and worsen it. Basically you want to make both sides work together again. I just graduated my pelvic floor therapy as well! =) so happy my diastis recti has gotten a ton better.. I’m almost there besides a small spot on my belly button.

I did all of these postpartum. Just because I did postpartum Pilates. They are so freaking hard postpartum. They're hard before baby too if you do it properly. That's kind of the fun thing with Pilates. The exercises get harder the longer you do it because you learn how to engage your muscles properly.

I had never heard about dr until about a year after my 3rd child which I had at 40 years old. I think I started doing typical “ab” exercises too soon not knowing anything about dr. Fast forward 5 years I feel about a finger and a half separation at this point since it’s been so long could it heal? Btw I feel no negative effects I still feel I have a strong core my skin hangs a lot when I’m in plank I don’t even know if healing the Dr would make a difference or if it’s just a little loose skin that I’ll have to live with, which is completely fine too ☺️
