The TRUTH About AI & SEO

My take on how AI is already impacting SEO. And how tools like ChatGPT will likely influence the SEO and digital marketing space in the future.

It's not about getting outranked by AI content. It's about a new generation of search engines that prioritize their conversion window (one that can have an intelligent human-like conversation) over your content. It's about browser plugins (which exist now) that summarize your page and answers questions in real time about it. It's about a future where personal AI assistants are on our devices and in our ears, answering questions and helping us throughout the day. If it were just prompt-and-click content creators blasting the web with thousands of posts per day, I don't think real content creators would be worried. But it's much bigger than that.

@@marijn_tb Well... let's say it is true. If there's no value for companies to hire writers, and there's no value for writers to write web content, give it a couple of months and you'll see AI providing irrelevant and outdated content, and feeding us old narratives. AI works by scraping the web and taking all that information to answer our queries. No matter the AI, that's how data scientist train their models. If there's no writers and no new content, then there won't be AI. Note: I'm not defending Brian by any means x) I just think we're giving AI too much credit. The reasons ChatGPT is so powerful is because of the years of content we've all created over the years.

I'm just saying that if you're talking about "the TRUTH about AI & SEO" (in the context of the future), then you should be covering how AI chatbots are going to impact the use of traditional search engines. And also how this will impact the amount of (organic) traffic send by these search engines.

Exactly, the elephant in the room that somehow Brian and his skyscraper content thoughts missed. No point writing great content when ai is just going to steal it and you get zero clicks. Brian Dean just wants to still flog his lame courses and has shown he has no understanding of the impact this will have on what was the SEO industry. who wants to get an answer quote in bing? lol how many people will bother clicking the citation. Unfortunately, because of the popularity of the interface, a lot of clients are starting to flock to ChatGPT and similar platforms instead of hiring freelancers like myself. I've already seen a vast difference in attitude toward writers over the past three months. It's more relevant to devaluing the work of a writer than impacting SEO, in my opinion. I think yes, it is impacting the "money value" but this will play out in different ways. For example, I write technical content, so think of technical SEO guides and web scraping tutorials, and I've been able to charge more because I offering my niche expertise. On the other hand, if you are a good writer and understand how to write following SEO best practices while keeping an original angle, you'll soon be getting a lot of clients back at a higher price. Why? Because everyone is going nuts about AI but when the results start showing declining traffic and conversion rates, business owners will need good writers to improve and optimize their pages, and of course, now that AI is a thing, human-talent and originality will be more expensive. What I can say is start learning other skills as a writer. Educate yourself on a niche whatever it might be, because - in my opinion - niche expertise is what will make the difference. If you are a great cook and understand how to prepare great dishes, then you can create unique food articles. If you know graphic design or web design, you can be an amazing asset for design SaaS companies and agencies. Hope this help and wish you so so so much success!!

As a writer you can fine-tune your mastery of ai prompting seeing as you know how to add keywords the right way…you guiding the ai is how you retain value….at the end of it all in any professional field it will always come down to who is using the ai to avail your own unique style or character to the result. If you don’t already use ai daily you are on your way to irrelevance. The hope is you grow with ai, might discover new interests you never knew😉

@@vyctalemill9328 There are some uses for AI that make logical sense, such as crunching numbers and analyzing data. But the moment you use it to "create" anything, such as your text or images you'll use on a book cover, then you cease to be the creator, the AI replaces you. So, you're essentially proving my point that you become nothing but a prompt jockey. That spark of imagination that you once had is no longer there, and the humanity and personality that once drove those ideations of creation is now driven by plugging words into a field in the hopes the AI will create something to your satisfaction. I may be irrelevant to the AI bros, but I will never be irrelevant to myself. And in the end, that's all that really matters.

I'm sorry, but by repeatedly saying that the only new thing is the interface, and the model behind ChatGPT 4 - for example - is the same as it was years ago, you have simply disqualified yourself in my eyes. Either you are too busy to properly research this or just trying to defend your vested interests in your SEO services and courses, you will end up being caught by this like many other incumbents who are dismissing change. I have been working in SEO for 8 years now, and I'm actively working on pivoting to a different business model.

The reality is that he's better than you and me at SEO even though you've been at it for 8 years. He will continually outrank you and me for as long as he's in the SEO space. Maybe he hasn't played with chat to PT for API, also he doesn't do prompting very well as very clear he didn't give it a role for example which is very basic thing to do to get better output he also can use 'tree of thought' which also gives better output

Hi Brian. I do use AI, but mostly as a content assistant. When it comes to really important content it's important to research what is found. I love the tip about using chat GPT to filter keywords and for other things that will be beneficial. Thanks for sharing

Long before AI was a concern, opinion, or editorial as you say perspective has been the difference that makes the difference imho. I often advocate to DIY content creators to use their most FAQ's. What was the last question they answered on the phone. Thats as belly to belly generated content based on market place intel, that they can do.

This is exactly what we argued about recently on LinkedIn. I don't see any AI tool that'll be capable of producing high quality contents any soon. No perspective, but just generic contents. And thank you for pointing out the fact: AI has been around, ChatGPT isn't the first. The hype should be enough already.

Samuel - seriously....you need to adapt and learn how to use the power of Ai now and not wait for it in the very near future, where the Ai will out perform all of us - guaranteed in content generation by a factor of 1000%. We are already seeing good quality content being produced by Ai. In the next 1 or 2 yrs, it will be so good on quality, it will make you pause and go - geez that's a great piece of content. When that day happens with content produced by Ai that is so fricken good, remember - it never sleeps and can out perform all us 24/7. It never gets tired or sleeps.

I publish almost 3k articles since this January, all good so giving results. All are AI output, I paraphrase it, check it to updated trends keyword, insert it and re-run thru AI again, add links, internal in some in-pages, external as well. All so good. next will do affiliates, and use those related articles and links, hope will give also positive results.

When yor business is based on SEO either by selling courses or services (or both) your opinion might be biased. Ask yourself, your family and your friends, are they still using Google as much as they used to? Personally I don't. Of course I still use Google, but there are millions of topics that Chatgpt is better at, evergreen content on Google is dying (a tiny example would be cover letters and resumes, no one will use Google again in this niche, and that's already million of articles and search queries gone)
