In security forces, if you had a boring day, that means nothing bad happened and it was a good day.. I'm currently in DEP and security forces is one of my picks.. when I hear someone say it's boring, they've never had a real job in the civilian world.. I've worked several from selling cellphones, to being a production manager for a radio station to landscaping... And take it from me, if your job is boring that's means you really don't have to work hard.. be greatful

We have a few Deputies who were SF and they seemed to like their experiences. My son is SF out in WY doing missile security and really likes his assignment and the people he works with... I think who you work with makes a big difference. He's been at his FDS since June 2018 so... so far so good. Regardless of the negative comments, THANK YOU to all for your service.

I never get a good experience from SF. I was dropping Airgoce guy to the base when I was driving Uber and then I was told to park my car 200 feet a way and wait them to run my background check first but guys I was misunderstood where to pack and I parked 400 feet a way from way I was supposed to park. In two minutes I was shocked to see six car of SF base showing up with guns and mags and asked me to do a statement of suspect for stopping 400 feet a way, where I was supposed to stop. No body explained to what is that statement about or if I have any right to not sign it or remains silent ever. I just gave them my info at that time and let them took my finger print signed that statement right way without any knowledge. It happened here in SPOKANE,WA this. Scary experience I have ever had in my life

Im SF based at CMAFS in colorado. I work a mids Shift thats a 12 hour since we are undermaned. Im very lucky at this base tho because every post has 2 computers with internet. Which is great to help pass the time since nothing happens here for the majority of the year. Myself and mnay other airman here in security forces are using our time at work to do college papers or study since we have such a large amount of time doing essentially waiting for something to go wrong. From my experience if you are hoping for the military experience of being a solider or want to be a police officer. This job will not put you through those kinds of situations as often as civ police or marines do who go on deployments. What you will get in joining security forces is a ton of training, good training on being police. if you keep your record clean and pass everything they throw at you. you can at your 2 year mark be able to go for something like K-9, Catm, RAVEN, DAGRE. But remember this is two years after working as most likey a gate guard. Without you fucking that up or doing something stupid off work that would risk your job. If you have any further questions about this job or airforce basic or security forces tech school, ill respond to as many as i can in this comment section.

I can 100% disagree with this, you WILL get experience once you deploy, i can tell you from experience once you deploy you take on more of an infantry role IE outside the wire patrols etc. dont let youtube fool you, you get to do really cool shit that the rest of the air force does'nt.

@SergeantSleepy

@@christopherbrandon6273 catm is combat arms training and maintenance. You learn about weapons and training people across the entire airforce how to shoot and qualify for weapon training which is yearly. Dagre is downed aircraft ground recovery element. Those guys are used to rescue/recover/protect aircraft that was shot down or crashed. Ravens, are used for aircraft protection while its airborne. They are assigned to an aircraft and go wherever it goes as its protection if it lands in hostile territory, crashes or has PoWs being transported.

I was Security Police/Security Forces (Law Enforcement Specialist). I have been stationed lots of places in CONUS and overseas. Got to be involved in a lot of law enforcement incidents at all my bases. Fights at the clubs, DWI's, lots of domestic disturbances in Base Housing and the barracks, traffic crashes and traffic enforcement. Got to work Town Patrol while stationed at Osan AB S. Korea, Not to mention the deployments. The gate guard is probably the only Security Forces member your average military member ever encounters. But, crimes don't investigate themselves and aircraft and other military assets don't secure themselves.

I'm a former Air Force Security Policeman from the late 1970's. Back when our sidearm was a .38 caliber Smith & Wesson revolver. But we had M-60 Machine Guns, M-203 Grenade launcher, et cetera Patrolled priority resources and posted Entry controller at various sites such as SR-71 Reconnaissance Aircraft, B-52 Bombers, F-4 fighter aircraft, RC-135 electronic surveillance aircraft and KC-135 tanker's. I miss doing my job. The Air Force SP field was a great job.
@GM8101PHX
@GM8101PHX 4 жыл бұрын
I worked in the precursor to Security Forces, we were Security Police, my job was with weapons systems security. This meant we controlled access to the flight line (runway field) any restricted areas to include Bomber Alert, Weapons Storage, Tanker Alert. We also had a nuclear mission with B-52's and KC-135's on 15 minute ground alert. This meant the bombers were loaded with weapons and fuel and ready for take-off. Tankers were loaded with fuels required for their mission. These aircraft were already pre flighted, all the crews had to do is drive up and jump and fire up the engines. Because of the mission we had signs announcing a restricted area and that Use of Deadly Force is Authorized. We never had to shoot anyone, however anyone breaking the restricted area boundary would be standing in front of their Commander's Desk, not a good Day!! We were there no matter the weather 24/7 365 days a year. We served with Strategic Air Command and through it's history never had a weapons accident in the 46 years it was a part of the US Air Force. I served from December 1977 to June 1982 at my SAC base before discharging from the Air Force at the end of my enlistment. We also experienced the effects from the eruption of Mt. St. Helens in May 1980. There were usually times of boredom, then times of extreme action! We were tested by the Standardization Branch of our base at least every 6 months as it was required. You had to be proficient or you would be talking with the Commander! I personally was awarded an achievement award for acing the Stand board evaluation of the alarm system I controlled. I made 100% on the test, the first in the entire command to do so. The Commander made a big deal of it. We were also put on extreme readiness during the attempted assassination of President Ronald Reagan. The most stressful was knowing for certain that because of our mission, if the Soviet Union was to start nuclear war, we at our base would be vaporized in about 15 minutes!!! That was always on your mind, but we chose to do our mission in spite of the threat!!! I was also able to shake the hand of President Jimmy Carter as he arrived at our base after Mt. St. Helens erupted to see the damage from the air. I was tasked by this huge Secret Service Agent to secure the air control tower as Air Force One was going to land. I was issued one order, shoot first, ask questions later. I did not have to shoot anyone. Then this agent put me in the reception line for the President, I was still armed with my M-16 and side pistol. I doubt I will ever top that achievement. The most rewarding was to supervise some of the best Airmen in the Air Force!!!

AFSF is definitely a YMMV situation. There is a lot of things all SF troops will experience but at the end of the day it’s different for everyone. I did 21 years active and guard which also led to a 21 year federal LE career (INS Deportation Officer and Criminal Investigator USMS). If you go into it try to maintain a good attitude, look for opportunities and make the most of it.

If you are SF in a reserve component, you spend a LOT of your limited time TRAINING. Yes, you train, so you may be viable when you are called to duty, IF you are called to duty. If you are lucky enough to work at your base, you may be a glorified door-checker, perimeter check and surveillance troop, or any of the other positions that require minimal thought and activity. If you are working the desk, you are a comm control point, so you have more heat on you. If you are a "gate guard," you do check I.D.'s and verify information before allowing contractors and visitors entry onto the base. One thing civvies or non-SF personnel forget is that, at an entry control point, you don't wait to check I.D.'s if someone is coming in hot, and those weapons on SF's hips, legs, and wherever else WERE MADE FOR TAKING OUT RISK. DO NOT DISCOUNT THE ROLE OF SECURITY FORCES.

USAF Air Police early 1962 to late 1965. Back then you could be wearing dress blues and the cool white hat one day on base patrol and in fatigues humping the flightline the next. Worked 8 hour days. 3 days 3 to 11, 24 hour break then three 11 to 7, 24 hour break, then three 7 to 3 and then 72 hours off. That meant three days off every eleven days. We were in New Jersey so all the guys who lived within a couple hundred miles would usually go home when on break. Not bad duty. We carried a 45 auto when doing LE work and an M1 carbine when doing security. Just when I was getting out they were going to the 38 revolver and the M16. The M16 was a far better weapon than the M1 carbine but the 45 auto was a far superior sidearm, in my opinion. Spent almost my entire first year at Lackland. Two phases of basic then almost three months wait for an opening in Air Police school. 80 years old now but still remember fondly my time in the Air Force.

I was Security Police (Law Enforcement) back in the day. Worst part was not getting any time off. 24 hr break was for training, so was the first day of your 3 day break after working six days. Most other career fields train during their duty day. All appts had to be on your off time. Federal holidays, when the rest of the base is off, not you. Family days, sorry, exercises cancel your break and you don’t get that time back. Short manned, just extend to a 12 hr shift which turns out to be 14 after weapons issue and turn in. One advantage is going forward, I could always look back and say I have seen worse.

I did 15 years as a Security Policeman (6 active/9 ANG). 3 years at Dyess SAC Bombers, since we had 3 Squadrons of MAC C-130's we did a lot of ABGD (fought Army Calvary Scouts at Ft. Hood A LOT). I was assigned to one of the first EST (SWAT) Teams in the USAF (went to FBI SWAT School). 1 year in Turkey at a MUNSS Sight I was the NCOIC of Arms and Equipment and Team Leader for a Joint Service Anti-Terrorist Team. 2 years at Langley on the Tactical Air Command Guard doing security for the Commander and Chief the Tactical Air Command. 9 years in the USAF Air National Guard. Our unit was in the field doing ABGD every other weekend and I completed Silver Flag Alpha (USAF Security Desert Warfare and Survival School Indian Springs AB Nevada). While I was in the Air Guard...my civilian job was...Alabama State Trooper on TAC1 and TAC Team 2 (SWAT). I loved my time as a SP in the USAF and got to do a lot of different things during those 15 years!!

There's a lot that he did not cover but he was right about every base is completely different in many different ways. It depends on the type of command that oversees them. It depends on the resources that are available at that base. The one thing I will definitely disagree on is going on my days off to do any type of training. something I've never agreed with they should do it while you're working. I was stationed over at Hill Air Force Base. We were responsible for a separate area about an hour northwest of the main base. And we also had the UTTR which is our bombing range. I've had the opportunity to run code for plane crashes all the way out in the middle of nowhere almost 2 hours away. Our base also had a thing called concurrent jurisdiction. Our jurisdiction intertwined with the local law enforcement so if we pursued off base we can still go after them we would eventually turn them over to locals though. Our base was mixed security and law enforcement. One day you could be doing security another day you can be doing law enforcement.

do you have any info on security forces for the Marines?
@Xpistos510
@Xpistos510 4 жыл бұрын
I assume not. The Air Force and Navy do their law enforcement/SecFor training at Lackland AFB. The Army and Marines do MP training and Fort Leonard Wood. So, Wrong channel if you wanna know about Marines. But my guess is that the curriculum/pipeline and training is very similar. It's obviously composed of law enforcement, weapons, land nav, light infantry tactics, room clearing, OC, and all similar stuff. I don't see there being much, if any difference. All Marines do MCT (a short infantry training) prior to their MOS school regardless of what it is, so in general Marines would have nominally more infantry training (by about six weeks when you count their longer boot camp and MCT school). But it really doesn't matter all that much. If you wanna do law enforcement, any of the branches would suffice. Just pick the branch based on the uniforms, culture, and base locations that you like better. If you wanna do medical or intelligence, then definitely avoid Marines.
