Just had my hair cut at a barber school yesterday. Experienced other students teaching the guy cutting my hair how to use shears (first time shear work) and how to cut a guideline. Was originally only going to have a couple of inches trimmed off but instead decided to be the guinea pig for trying out a bob cut. Everyone in there said they prefer learning with real hair but it is hard to find people willing to let the experiment with a cut. The instructor came out toward the end of the cut and was a bit mad they didn't call for her. My cut might not be perfect, but I had a lot of fun and even the upset instructor was laughing by the end of it.

My top hair is 12 inches long and I would love to get trimmed up. I get a low low drop fade undercut.

My wife went back to school to start a new career mid-life. She was shocked at how little teaching happens at her barber school and how crappy the "adults" treat the "kids". Basically, they don't treat students like adults and the majority of her learning has come from fellow students. Extremely disappointing for how much money we're paying out of pocket. She's got 3 months left at this point and struggles to keep going, but we don't have the option of failure. She'll get through it, but is worried about her license test. These "schools" are such trash, I can't believe they're state licensed.

I agree 100% with you. It’s unfair for all people trying to actually learn. But it sounds like you guys have the right mindset. Get through it! Came way to close to quit now

Yeah im 19 rn and very surprised on how many people hated barber school , my teacher actually had a passion and taught me everything ik and its been only 11 months ive already graduated im confident enough to say i could pull off any fade / taper but i hear its quite the opposite for some people which really sucks because i loved the school.

Yea overall I also enjoyed my experience but it definitely wasn’t what I expected it to be.

Thank you for the video! Speaking the truth and personal experience. Definitely helps not jumping into school right away. I'd rather continue to watch tutorials go to barber shops and watch in person cutting practice myself reading about sanitation and cuts and prepare myself before I spend money to go to school

Long story short been saying this for years…regardless of state Barber Schools want the tuition ONLY…you NEED to know at least the basics of a haircut BEFORE going…most of the instructors aren’t that great of a barber themselves

@dracohussle28852 жыл бұрын
It’s exactly how it was when I went. My advice would be just to grind it out for the license.

We need regulation like how it is in america,in the UK u can literally go from being an absolute beginner to qualified barber in 9 weeks
@dracohussle28852 жыл бұрын
Wow I didn’t know that at all. 9 weeks in my opinion definitely is too short of a time frame but on the flip side I believe americas regulation is too much there has to be a good middle ground
@TheStressD2 жыл бұрын
I don't know about that mate you have to be mad to want it regulated like the US. When they said they need a licence to become barber I thought they were joking, that's a blatant money making scam. In NY they need a licence to sell 2nd hand laptops and mobile phones. If anything a basic health and safety qualification should be sufficient, if people want further education that's down to the individual. People became baberbers way before any qualification came out. Some of the best barbers didn't need to go to collage, all they did is either become an apprentice in barbershop sweeping floors or started cutting friends and family hair.

Where did you go in Chicago? My cousin has A bomb ass school Larry’s barber college he has about 4 schools on the southside of Chicago. I’ve seen a bunch of his students go on to open there own shops, coming straight outta school they def were cutting hair immediately. He literally teaches or the instructors def are teaching I was going to go his college yrs ago but passed. Now I’ve moved to Houston and looking up schools 😩

It’s called his and hers barber school and that’s great I’m glad to hear that there are people who care and are more hands on. The only way this industry will be respected is if we show it should be taken seriously

Im from Tx (still in school) in 2 yrs here the barber and cosmo license are going to be combined into one so this means that a barber is a cosmo and a cosmo is a barber too and at this point it doesn’t matter what school you choose bc in 2 years it won’t matter the cosmos that are getting their cross over license at the school i go to tell me that the theory is the same and that its best to learn all the services than just to focus on one service the school I go to is not even 5 years old it’s still new I am learning but not from the school im learning from the cosmos pretty much all the Barbers are I kid you not there’s periods of times where only 3 people come in for a cut and its dead silent for weeks straight the Owner says he’s not here to babysit us which is understandable bc were all in our early 20s but he should babysit us we’re paying him to teach us we don’t know what to do to get our license all he dose is gives us lecture well story time bc he doesn’t even use the white board that he has and he talks for 30 min and after that we just sit there and do nothing well the majority do I don’t i always ask the cosmos to teach me something after the lecture is over even though that’s not what I’m going for but i might as well leave school with some skills the instructors the owner has Idk bro what are your thoughts 2 out of the 4 instructors haven’t even been cutting for 5 years and somehow they’re instructors one of them is fresh from barber school and even he has trouble helping me or a student with a cut that we get once in awhile and when they give class bro all they do is read from a paper like if they’re giving a book report presentation. 3rd barber instructor all he does is sit in the break room and talks on the phone and eat something off the kfc menu the 4th instructor is a cosmo and she’s very unprofessional she’s always picking arguments with cosmo students just bc they’re teaching us something when the cosmo instructor just belittle us and procrastinates that she’s going to gives us a lesson on color or women’s cuts thats my experience so far 😂💀

No I feel you man. My best advice would be regardless of what comes your way.do what you gotta do to get that license tbh
@frankliera47622 жыл бұрын
Yea I can relate to that too here in California. Second day they just let us be there doing what ever we want. I'm watching the ones that know how to cut hair and asking them questions. The instructors just come check up and we have to figure it out on ourselves and practice on each other. I don't know what we are paying for in reality

Honestly if you plan on do it longer like 5 years plus yes because you can be fined and after 3 times you won’t even be able to get a license anymore. But if you don’t plan on doing it much longer or you haven’t had any trouble no. Theres nothing you’re missing out on. I’d say if you get caught be the state once then go tbh 🤣
