Going to college back in the early 80’s there was this small local restaurant/bar that served fried bologna sandwiches with the bologna cut approximately 1” thick, then coated with Texas Pete hot sauce that had been reducing in a pan until it was a thick paste. The toppings were sliced fresh tomatoes, sliced onions. lettuce, mustard, dill pickles piled high on a large hamburger bun. You also got Krinkle fries and a glass of Budweiser all for $3.25....damn near heaven!

WOW, everything you wanted to know about bologna! Very informative and interesting, especially for a sixty-something guy like me, whose Mom often sent me off to grade school with a brown bag lunch consisting of a baloney sandwich (one slice on white bread with mayo and mustard), a bag of chips or Fritos and an orange or an apple. This was in the 1960s, so no classroom fridges and no AC in the entire school (the school was built in the early 1900s). I paid the price one hot September day when, about two hours after eating my baloney sandwich, I was overcome with waves of nausea. I ran out of the classroom in an attempt to reach the boys' room in the basement of the school, but, despite my attempt to hold it in, I violently projectile vomited all over the walls and steps leading to the basement. I spent the next 5 days in bed with what amounted to dysentery and a high fever. The only time in my life I had food poisoning (likely due to the mayo spoiling in the heat of the classroom). Haven't eaten a baloney sandwich since. Maybe I'll try one of the "fancy" baloney dishes featured in this video.

Look at it this way...every cow and pig has a stomach, kidneys, lungs, spleens, hearts and intestines... well...if your package of bologna says "100%" beef they're not lying to you... but look at the list of animal parts I just displayed...do YOU see those parts sold commonly at your grocery store???

My dad didn’t allow anything that he HAD to eat as a child in the house😂 No ham, spam, bologna, pork chops, hotdogs, cornbeef hash, sardines, tuna, white bread, kook-aid or soul food🤦🏾♀️😂 Thank God, for neighbors lol they made the best fried bologna sandwiches

Dang! You were deprived. Nothing like a couple of slices of fried bologna, cheese and the cheap tangy mustard. Fry it a little crispy black around the edges. Once u go fried black u never go back.

My dad ruled the roost so for the most part we couldn't eat what he didn't, like pork or anything that included milk or cheese. But, once in a while my mother would fix what we liked and a little something else for him. I still love anything creamed, mashed and scalloped potatoes, macaroni and cheese, and pork fixed any way. I am old and still drink milk with every meal. But we had bologna!

Fry bologna turn it over and then add an egg right on top. Cook on low with a lid on the top, so it cooks through without burning. Tastes great in a toasted sandwich. Add a slice of cheese and hot sauce if desired. Yummy. 😃

Bologna is everything that people would say 'eww' at if they tried to sell them seperately. That's why the grind it up. So people can't tell what it is.

We would get a Bologna sandwich with Mayo on one half of the bread, and Mustard on the other half of the Wonder Bread, and either Cheese Whiz spread over the Bologna, or it would have sliced Extra Sharp Cheese on top of the Bologna. And I would put some of my Potato Chips inside of the sandwich! Yum.

During the Depression our neighbor had 8 kids and money was very tight, It was a treat for those kids to get one slice of fried bologna as their meat for the dinner meal. They would save it to nibble later and were in heaven. All those kids prospered, one reaching millionaire status when a buck was still a buck.
