I remember seeing Brandon Lee in person promoting Rapid Fire I was a little younger than him at the time but I was so intrigued at how strikingly handsome he was! And tall!!! He looked like a model gorgeous! I was a fan the moment he did “Legacy of Rage” a fitting title to his then rebellious ways. He and his Dad are so missed..May they Rest In Peace

As much as Ronny explains how difficult and rebellious young Brandon was you can tell it is all out of love and that he really misses him, just as we all do.

Bruce and Brandon are cornerstones in my upbringing, as a kid who studied kung fu and with an absent father, their story alwaws really got to me. Now I'm 36 and a father of two young boys. Seeing the footage from Bruce's funeral, with Brandon and Shannon almost being forced to be there, I very much understand Brandon's pain and resentment towards anything resembling Asian culture, and Hongkong film-culture specifically. Poor guy never got the chance to stand on his own two legs. Eternal respect and love to the Lee-family.

He changed later I guess because he became very gracious and patient when continually bartered about his dad in every interview for his own films

It's simply impossible to imagine how it must have been difficult for a little young boy to grow after the death of a father that full of aura and potential as Lee Jun-Fan. I'm so happy that Brandon got helped and succeeded to temper his anger. His death hurts me until today and I'm sure the pain will never totally disappear mainly because one day I learnt that he was the first choice of the Wachowski to play Neo in the saga which is for me the most important produced in the history of Cinema: Matrix. May we one day find a way to build a world where fathers can totally shine brightly, where their children have the ability to accompany them on this wonderful journey and also shine in all their glory, and where the rest of the world would have an entrance ticket to contemplate this beautiful spectacle. Thanks for this share and I give my respect to all the people (here and anywhere in the world) who really felt the greatness of Bruce Lee and his son.

I'm glad I saw this video. Made me sad since Brandon is no longer with us. I never even knew Brandon had been an angry young man. Ronny Yu's telling of this story with love and candour makes me understand where the anger came from and how his fears manifested itself.

Everyone says he didn’t want to do Martial Arts and didn’t speak Cantonese. As much as Brandon hated his HK adventures it must’ve impacted him a lot. When he went on to do Rapid Fire he choreographed his own fights, started training again and also spoke Cantonese in the movie

he had a temper like his father. Bruce lee said that he himself had a bad temper. I always thought Brandon was calmer than his father, I guess he wasnt different afterall.

He was in many ways, hon. In his younger years, not so much. But he had his valid reasons. Anger and remorse manifest in many ways and it took him awhile to get a handle on that and to realize that sometimes it doesn't hurt to at least have that kind of family to at least get your foot IN the door so you can then make your own name. Which he did in spades. :)

*Grins* If oh you really knew, you sad Troll. If only. Too bad for you, your opinions of me matter just as little as people's did about him. Go back to attempting to hurt people that care what a stranger behind a keyboard thinks. Lol.

Nightshade Isis i I wasnt trying to taint his name. It was just an observation. Close friends of Bruce Lee brought up a lot of times that Bruce had a bad temper. I just wanted to know if Brandon was like his father. I understand though. I shouldnt have come to a conclusion about a person after listening to what one person had to say about him. I am very sorry to Brandon about that

Bruce in his younger years was not humble at all. In fact, in his younger years, Bruce was quite arrogant, to be honest. Later on in his life, he became humble. The same thing with Brandon.

Legacy of Rage is a good decent action film. I treat it as a classic just cuz it was his first leading role. Most of all, he did good for a new starter..

He seemed bitter about being compared to his father and a lot of people who had famous parents are like that i.e Sean Lennon. But he seems angry about his father's death and the expectations placed on him and he just rebelled against it in a lot of ways!!

Because he was an Aquarius the most rebellious sign in the whole zodiac, we need to be convinced or made to feel it was our decision before making one of our own,you never dictate to an Aquarian you will be shut down or silenced by them in other ways!! I know my youngest refuses to talk to me is I try to tell him how it is, I need to give him facts and figures or forget it!!

my hypothese is Bruce Lee got sacrificed so the movie industry could make more money from mourning fans, same for Brandon Lee in the Crow and many other actors, musicians etc

This truth comes 24 years after he is gone. In interviews and all he sounds so humble and nice. He was different. Angry actors play good on screen probably. He looks great in the movies.

This isn't THE "truth", this is A "truth", how Brandon behaved & was perceived at a certain point in his life (when he was 19, still a kid, really, & trying to make a name for himself, outside his father's shadow). Watch any bio on him, yes, friends & even his sister described him as "a rebel", doesn't mean he was a bad person, he was definitely in the process of growing, maturing, & trying to be his own person. You can't blame him for having issues about his dad, getting tired of always being compared & directly associated with his dad, not feeling he was appreciated as an individual. Also, this interview reveals some ugly truth's about Hong Kong Chinese, too, describing Brandon as a stereotypical "white boy", I guess it's true about how racist Hong Kong Chinese have a tendency to be against "gwilos".
@BRUCEJJ665 жыл бұрын
"He was different"... he was a multi-faceted person like anyone, not all bad or good, & in the process of growing & maturing.

Most interviews you find on here are when he was well into his 20s. matured and all. the director said he was 19 at the time, he was simply still a teen. I believe people who say brandon was an angry and arrogant child/teen as the death of his dad would obviously cause him to probably act out (which might have been a way for him to cope). its is very normal for childhood trauma to manifest into unruliness as you get older
@ohwowimme4262 жыл бұрын
you must also remember that brandon wanted so badly to distance himself from his father's image. if that meant he had to be very rebellious then it makes alot of sense
@nearlydead7510 Жыл бұрын
He described Brandon how he was in his youth. It's understandable for Brandon to be angry at everyone for seeing him as the son of Bruce Lee, when he wanted to make a name for himself. It must have been hard for him. He seemingly came to terms with his heritage when he got older. Maybe because when he got The Crow, he knew he didn't have to live in his father's shadow anymore from that point onward. Imagine trying to become a big actor, a real actor. But every role you get is only because you are the son of a legendary martial artist. And there's always the feeling that you are wasting your potential with these roles.
