@Shadow Hedgehog because Philippines is used to the "sachet" or "tinge" type of marketing and that explains why our cars specs here are a downgrade as compared to our neighbors. Downgrade the specs to fit the majority of buyers' budget.

Throughout my life, I’ve owned only an American & 7 Japanese cars before I tried a Korean car because that was the only brand that offered a small car diesel. In the almost 7 years I’ve owned it, it is running almost 187k kms & hav’nt had any major issues aside from parts that had to be routinely replaced. Very solidly built. All my Japanese ones never reached this mileage & were running very “tired” before they reached 150k with body creaking, alignment & camber issues, loss of power, rusting parts & a host of other issues. I was so impressed & with the savings I got from it, I bought another Korean car, a diesel crossover this time. The only issue in the Philippines with Korean cars now is the bias with the badge (as evidenced by the comment above) & the resale value, both of which I don’t really care about. Korean cars have really come a long way.

In all honesty... Chinese cars look so good! They also have it all... I just wish japanese cars will do their upgrades and make their cars look good.. i would still choose toyota any day for its being reliable and easy to maintain reputation but their Chinese cars are a looker! Japanese manufacturers should really consider this factor or they might experience what happened to the japanese smartphones like sony and sharp... Vanished because they're so lazy to innovate (also expensive) and now we are flooded with Chinese phone brands...
@jamvegaon5910
@jamvegaon5910 4 жыл бұрын
@shinkueagle i agree with you.. again i would also choose reliable brands like toyota any day for those exact reason... But japanese brands should step up their game.. i mean its as he mentioned... Some of these chinese brands are actually doing business with some of the most reliable brand that we know... Its like this... european cars are so good looking but so expensive while japanese brands like toyota, suzuki are so reliable but honestly.. they're boring looking and generic however they're so reliable and affordable.. But Chinese cars are good looking cars but also inexpensive... The only thing they'll have to take care is reliablity... This is why im holding myself from getting that geely car and instead opt for a honda or Toyota car... We'll know how they'll be reliable in 5 years time.. again just like my example... Chinese smartphones did not became an overnight superstars... it took some time (xiaomi offering inexpensive phones but feature packed is their main selling piont) we laugh about them even big brands like sony and nokia and blackberry said they're not worried about them... But look at what happened? We are flooded with xiaomi, oppo, huawei, vivo so on and so forth... They're inexpensive but able to perform well and has good warranty service... All im saying is these japanese should really step up their game... China and Chinese products should not be ignored anymore! It might be that these Millennials and so is gen z would prefer better looking stuff in the future...
@jamvegaon5910

@shinkueagle i do agree that some of these chinese cars are "imitation" of some luxury cars but thats the thing though... They might be "imitation" looking (as it was also pointed out on this video) but they're waaay cheaper than those luxury cars they try to imitate 😅 also those cars you've mentioned are indeed good looking but i believe these cars are not their competition? Those cars are like "luxury" if you ask me since most of them are on 2-3 million pesos so its not really the chinese cars target market... These chinese cars are again.. inexpensive so youve got to compare them to those price segment as welll right? So the likes of vios, avanza, etc etc... Thats why i gotta say that mg cars are really good looking as well as that geely car.. they're wayy cheaper that their competing counterparts I agree that it is with the beholder on how you define beauty... So people might love it or hate it.. its all up to them!
@jamvegaon5910
@jamvegaon5910 4 жыл бұрын
@shinkueagle true.. i mean that would be enough for us to judge if these cars are not just all looks.. they're also inexpensive and reliable! That's what matter... If they're able to prove that... There's a good chance people would love them!

@shinkueagle i know someone who actually owned a ford mustang and it was involved with an accident with a tricycle... The damage can't be repaired even if the tricycle driver would sell his tryk as it was really expensive... Honestly these luxury cars are nice to see in our streets but the gruesome traffic that we have and our ugly road it is a horror to be involved in a car accident!

Foreign brands assembled in china adhere to foreign audits and quality standards(I know, I do this audits). Chinese cars ehhh not so much. Safety also raises questions as Chinese cars dont adhere to AIAG requirements. Kung masaya ka naman eh suportahanta ka. Pera mo naman yan.

Every manufacturer has a distinct specialty. The Japanese make reliable cars, if a bit boring to look at. The Koreans are currently the leaders in Innovation and styling. The Americans engineer great cars and are great at styling them (the Koreans hired a lot of western designers and now their cars look great) The Europeans design amazing interiors, the exteriors can be eclectic sometimes. The Chinese, well, they make good knockoffs of cars. In fact they make such good knockoffs that they were hired to manufacture the real thing now.

For example on quality control and design principles. We don't want to get stalled in the middle of the road or get into an accident. Japanese n famous cars have many lemons n design problems, Ford, bmw etc. Please explain why Chinese cars are at least equal. Maybe interview through zoom, etc the designers, quality heads, etc. That's the only way we can truly start considering Chinese cars. For now it's just like having hunches on reliability without more solid basis. Thank you.

I wonder how many more Chinese brands would enter if LTO would release their implementing guidelines for electric cars knowing China is leading the race for EVs popularity. Imagine having charging stations on those Chinese casas which might start the electric revolution, if it hasn't started yet.

Chinese cars, just like the China branded mobile phones is catching up fast or already are at par with the premium brands. Now that information and technology can easily be replicated, Chinese carmaker can already make quality and durable cars for less. They may even give better value than your leading car makers. Think of of how xiaomi, Huawei, etc has caught up with Apple and Samsung. Maybe an exact parallel to what has happened to the mobile phone industry is happening now in the car industry.

As a rule of thumb, if you want good quality for cheap, don't buy clones. Buy from companies that design their own phones. Clones spent too much time and effort cutting corners on trying to look like something else whereas an original company aren't limited by these things and can bring you the best product they can possibly make. And always buy branded for items over $100. Branded items have alot more effort put into them for their reputation.
@dion4670
@dion4670 2 жыл бұрын
You might have a slight misconception about what branding is. For example, in cellphones, One+ at some point called chinese clones and were now performing close if not better than the branded stuff you are talking about. Now, they are selling phones at the same price point with Samsung and ppl still buy them. Same with AMD to 'branded' Intel where in fact both have brands its just the other is more established. It's always a leap of faith in the less popular brands. However, MG could be a company (like one+) that is determined to get noticed and established in the market even at the expense of gaining lesser income per unit. If that is the case, many would be regretting now buying when its cheap. If you play in stocks you'd know the feeling. Of course, MG could also be just an inferior product but considering the effort they put and gradual improvements of their cars on the recent years then I'd like to think positively. My only real concern about MG is the alloys they used in the cars might degrade faster the the Japanese cars.

I'm eyeing to acquire a huge-ish vehicle within this year. I actually do consider getting a Chinese branded vehicle, specifically the Okavango. Spec/features/capabilities are on point and definitely checks a lot of boxes on my needs. HOWEVER, it is not the "purchasing" part I am afraid of. It's the AFTERSALES. While I do agree that the quality did got a lot better, it's the aftersales support I really am worried about. Esp. not a lot of "thirdparty" or "your go to" shops can handle such vehicles. P.S. I may or may not have contributed a thousand views on your "Montero Vs. Okavango" video. But maaaaan, I'm just so damn torn.
