Me too. Exciting to think about owning some SpaceX, XAI, Starlink etc Putting more funds into Elon projects…?! Eff yeah I’m buying. How about making the shares in a holding company like Berkshire and a couple hundred grand to keep nuisance, lawsuit filing “shareholders” out of the ownership group. Of course no one would say that - except this is Elon. Or just keep it private. Invite individuals privately. Don’t go public in any conventional sense. Elon won’t go public with a company he cares about ever again would he? Maybe he’s optimistic as am I that his compensation package will be reinstated by the US Supreme Court no matter what happens in appeals or with shareholder votes.

Thanks, I loved the testimonials. In 2022 I started buying Tesla stock. Here's the reason: I looked at what other corporations in the USA were doing and I saw that most were just repeating what they had learned 100 years ago. Tesla and Elon Musk were actually changing the world for the better and doing it fast. I wanted to support that so I bought some stock. Right now I'm down about 10% and I don't care because this is what I SHOULD be doing. Elon Musk DESERVES to have more control over Tesla.

No "sir", "Mr" nor last name just the dudes first name even if he/she is a billionaire and a casual talk about something. This approach seems fascinating to most people but not for Swedes (or Fins, Norwegians or Danish) In Sweden there is a saying: Don't think your are special In old Warcraft III game the Orcs said "I work for the Horde" - that sums up the Scandinavian work culture

Any of these things could happen in the future, and if you read science fiction, none of it surprises you.

EVs were not a great innovation. GM produced the EV1 before Tesla existed. It didn't follow through with marketing and ramping production, but the technology was well established before Tesla. Chevrolet's Bolt EV appeared on the market before Tesla's Model 3, but early vehicles had battery fire problems, and GM again failed to follow through. Tesla deserves credit for going all in on EVs where legacy auto feared to tread, but the achievement was less technological than entrepreneurial. For the record, I drive a Bolt EV myself, and it has a large screen for the infotainment and climate control systems among other things. It doesn't use the screen for all controls, like the Model 3, and I'm glad that it doesn't. FSD hasn't delivered a robotaxi five years after Musk said it would. Say all you like about Waymo's lidar and geofencing and remote monitors. It has operating robotaxis, and Tesla does not. Will FSD robotaxis, when they appear (and I suppose they will), operate without a geofence or remote monitors/operators initially? I doubt it. We'll see. Optimus and other humanoid bots are still 99% hype. Starlink is nice if you live far from established mobile internet access, and Musk gets credit for extending the net to developing countries, but again, the technology was never in doubt. Landing rockets wasn't new technology either. SpaceX gets credit for turning them into a business. Starship is still in development and has a long way to go before it is reusable, lands on the moon or sends colonists to Mars. The last test was a big improvement over previous tests. Twitter/X was a debacle that cost Musk tens of billions of dollars. xAI hasn't accomplished much yet that I know of, but AI generally is progressing by leaps and bounds, and Musk can assemble a team that will participate in this progress. Neuralink doesn't have much of a record to judge either. You don't mention The Boring Company.

@@restonthewind "the technology was well established before Tesla" No, not true. GM's EV1 lacked range and the ability to operate in cold weather. It didn't have features like over the air software updates. GM didn't have good battery management systems as evidenced by their early production Bolt fires. GM still doesn't have technology brought including digital versions of each EV produced. When Tesla started selling the Roadster and then the Model S people started buying and driving them. GM leased their not-viable EV1 for a short period and then clawed them back.
@restonthewind
@restonthewind 7 күн бұрын
@@bobwallace9753 Available battery technology limited the EV1's range. It had lead-acid and then nickel metal hydride batteries, and it never had more than a hundred miles of range. Li-Ion batteries existed at the time but were too expensive for an EV. A decade made a big difference in the development of Li-Ion batteries, so Tesla could build an extremely expensive vehicle around them by 2008, but Tesla gets no credit for the technology. GM could have built an extremely expensive EV around Li-Ion batteries at the same time, but it waited almost another decade to build the much more affordable Bolt. But aside from the battery tech, EV technology was well established before the roadster. As you say, it was well established in the early 20th century when EVs were more popular than ICEVs. The Bolt EV has great battery management, and its range exceeds the EPA estimate in my experience. The fires had nothing to do with battery management. They resulted from flaws in batteries produced by LG Energy Solutions, a fact acknowledged by LG in its settlement of lawsuits. That Tesla does something with its EVs that GM doesn't is irrelevant to my assertion that EV technology was well established. "Tesla" is not synonymous with "EV". That GM sold the EV1 differently than Tesla sold the Roadster is also irrelevant to my point. Tesla gets credit for going all in despite the risks, so it was an entrepreneurial success but less of a technology innovator. You're right that GM sold the EV1 too cautiously and ultimately withdrew it from the market rather than risk investment in charging infrastructure. Those are business failures, not technological failures. The limited range and extremely limited charging infrastructure were definite impediments to market growth even though many people who had an EV1 wanted to keep it. A practical EV battery needs enough energy density at a sufficiently low price, and Li-Ion crossed that threshold. It would have crossed the threshold regardless of Tesla, and GM might have made the Bolt EV without Tesla. We'll never know, but the company certainly knew how to build an EV and had already done so. It didn't know how to sell one. Tesla also knew that it had to build a charging infrastructure too, and investors put a lot of money at risk to build this infrastructure without many vehicles on the road. Again, that's an entrepreneurial success rather than a technological innovation, but entrepreneurial success is as important.

Lane keeping is a nice feature, something taken for granted now. But honestly, over the past 20, especially the last 10, years, I have noticed that for expressways, highways, city, and even suburban and country roads, there seems to have become far more attention and constant improvements in highway signage and roadway lane markings than there ever were last century. (I remember in the late '60's and early '70's, when amazing little reflective lane markers and side bumper strips first appeared here and there on expressways.) This new emphasis benefits all drivers, but I do believe that the advent of EVs, "smarter" driver assistance systems with features like lane-keeping and auto-distancing, and eventually systems like FSD, have been and are background forces helping to improve the highway environment.

Those of you who are Tesla shareholders definitely should vote for Elon's 'compensation'. Nobody deserves such a ridiculous sum for themselves, but Elon will spend the money much more productively for the good of humanity. Certainly more productively than the parasitical lawyers that sued Tesla, or for that matter the US Government if it is taken in taxes. But I hope he does not take any more of his companies public. Starlink was supposed to be the source of funding for colonizing Mars, and if a public company diverts profits in this way the lawyers would certainly come calling! If Wall Street votes this down, their true colors will be showing: prepared to reward mediocre execs like Calhoun of Boeing (not to mention his predecessor Muilenburg for goodness sakes) for monumental failure and destruction of value whilst reneging on a previous promise to reward a huge success that they never believed was possible.

I'm pretty sure Elon doesn't care about the money. Elon just wants to maintain enough control over Tesla to keep greedy stockholders from killing Tesla's future like how greedy people took over Paypal and shoved Elon to the side.
