Personal testimony: No matter your colour, you are in danger as a farmer. I have an aunt who is a black farmer and there were several murder attempts against her and her immediate family by some of her employees at the farm and close calls during robberies. My parents, black and coloured respectively, now own a farm and there were some close calls even when I visited for the holidays. Our neighbors, coloured and white, respectively, also recieved some close calls. Farmers and farmworkers are easy targets. Emergency services find it difficult to get to farms because of the landscape and GPS isn't much help in locating farm homes. There were countless times where people got lost when trying to visit my family because the GPS took them to a neighboring plot. My commentary: I find it offensive that Afriforum is using farm murder stats as if white people are the only farmers in SA. There are black and coloured farmers too in those stats. This campaign is just racist and exclusionary and a huge distortion of the reality.

Thank you very much for debunking these lies about farm murders that have come up following the ICJ case by South Africa against Israel. The same old story about the ANC' s crimes and inefficiencies also became the topic although they had nothing whatsoever to do with the Genocide by Israel, which was shown in real time in the media. Every country has its problems including the very wealthy ones who have thousands of homeless people living on the streets of major cities but South Africans are quick to discredit their own government pointing out that charity begins at home meaning , the ANC should be addressing South Africa's problems first and ignore the Palestinians' plight because their problems with service delivery should take precedence to that of the genocide on Palestinians as if RSA is not part of the the international world. Double standards go as far as the issue with the South African Jewish youngster vs SA Cricket board. He was the under 19 cricket team captain but unashamedly dedicated his award to the IDF. Again the government of the ANC was hauled into this matter for being racist by the Jewish and some in the White community after he was stripped of his captaincy. All this happens while the world is awaiting the ruling by the ICJ on Israel's genocide charge.

i remember when this started getting attention i watched a documentary where they interviewed a family of a farm owner who was murdered. they hinted that a few farm workers were also murdered in the struggle against the attackers but their races were never mentioned and no follow up on their stories was done. i remember feeling so frustrated thinking the interviewer would go into it but it just completely got glossed over...

I can promise you that you never had to sit in an idling car while your husband or father had to go fully armed into a house to turn on the lights and make sure there was no one inside waiting. I can be pretty sure you have never had the fear of having to drive at night from university to meet your dad at a garage because they spike the roads at night or throw bricks through windshields. I am pretty sure you have never had to watch someone you never met who got past your electric fence show you they would cut your throat while you stare at them through your window, only to press the panic and know it will take armed security at least 30 min to get to where you live. Or having to stay with family while your husband is out of town because it's too unsafe for you and your baby to be there alone, at your own home. If you have I apologize, but if you have not then I encourage you to have more empathy for those who actually have those experiences on a weekly or daily basis. @@laetitia6512 i do have family who know the the fear you have just shared very well.. i truly empathize with you, im sorry you've had to deal with not only the reality but all the emotions around the experience too. its not an easy aspect of rural life to reckon with for sure. i appreciate the struggle, the trauma, the constant fear in the back of your mind. the people i know, though, are people of colour. so that for me makes me think it cant be attacks fueled solely on racial hatred as i see so often in the rhetoric. sure, in each case of crime the aggressors will have to build up a reason in their mind to fuel the atrocity they are about to do, whether its racial justification or class (the most common justification) or gender, or anything. and what we know is crime is rife in south africa. in my thinking, it does more harm than good, in any situation where there is an aggressor and a victim, to build up a sort of negative reasoning within our minds as a means to cope based on our personal set of attributes. On average the attacks carried out against white farmers are disproportionately more brutal and quite undeniably fueled by a deep seated hatred for people based on the colour of their skin. The demographic being targeted aren't part of some feral gang banger community where violence is the norm either. Purposely drilling holes in live female victims or boiling babies alive is by no means a nominal MO for common everyday murders.

I just don't get why anyone who has the interests of their fellow countrymen at heart would be spreading such a theory. I'm against any murder, regardless of whom and where. Criminals need to be punished, and we as the people of South Africa need to start forcing police to do their jobs. It starts with us the citizens of this great country. Stop breaking the laws and allowing family and friends to break laws. Informative video. As a maths teacher, I appreciate your analysis of the stats. Afriforum were either incompetent in their analysis or deliberately misleading. I thought you were a little dismissive of the “Kill the Boer” song. I agree with you that Malema singing that song doesn’t by itself provide evidence of a genocide but it is a incitement to violence from one of SA’s most prominent political figures and it certainly has the potential to motivate violent acts against white farmers (even if no hard evidence has yet emerged that it has done so). I think we need to at very least acknowledge its potential to produce violent, racially-motivated murders. Otherwise, I agree that the most sensible explanation for most of these murders is wealth not race and I think we will only start to find solutions when we realise what the actual problem is.
