About them choosing Valmet Automotive all the way in Finland to build the first cars: They're a contract manufacturer who started out building Saabs, but have since built cars for a whole bunch of brands, including Porsche and are currently building cars for Mercedes Benz. During the Porsche building days the union in Germany complained so they took two one car off the line in Finland, one off the line in Germany and took them apart to see which one was put together better, whereafter the union shut up. Thus if you don't know their history having them build your cars may sound like a really weird thing to do, but if you consider we're talking about a start-up trying to build luxury cars, them contracting manufacturing to a company that's previously built Porches better than Porsche themselves it completely makes sense.

I saw a Fisker Karma when I was driving on the highway one day. Hands down one of the most striking car designs I've ever seen in person, and that's saying a lot. I still think it's an extremely compelling design, it's just too bad they had so many flaws.

My dad was one of the many employees who were laid off in 2012. But he absolutely loves this car and is over the moon that they didn't let it die. He thinks of it as his baby. I remember him telling us all about all the problems the car had, so he's super happy that another company was able to fix them all. We both hope the "Karma Revera" succeeds

Having seen a Fisker in person in 2012, I was blown away by how cool it was/how beautiful it was. Then I got closer to it and standing next to it on the driver side when it was running on the gas engine was noxious and unpleasant. Just standing on the outside looking in, the interior looked SUPER shoddy quality. But then you stepped back and it just looked incredible for a 4 door. One of these would be perfect with a Tesla swap

A boss who believes in the importance of engineering, even if he doesn't do it himself, is very different to a boss who believes in the importance of appearance over all else. I've no idea how involved in the engineering Musk is, or how involved in the design Fisker was - but I'd rather have a car that's well engineered personally. That said, the Fisker certainly looks interesting, even though I personally don't like the length of the hood & the way it seems to get slightly lower towards the cab from a higher point earlier, makes the car look broken to me, though I'm aware there are other American cars that seem to pick this style so maybe it's a culture thing.

The Fisker Karma had a great appareance. Its biggest flaw was the fact that it was a hybrid. Throw the gas engine out, put a 100kwh battery in with a RW-drive electric motor and you have a badass car.

Massive fleets of electric taxis that looks and runs like Corellas have been workhorses in Chinese cities for more than a decade, with little fanfare and no hype. This says something of the national characteristics of China vs America. When they make an electric car, it costs $13k and you can't even tell it's electric until you turn it on and there's no engine noise. When we do, it costs $80k and comes with all the hype and sleekness of a polished turd.

Just to clear it up: The combustion engine does not drive the wheels directly. It works as a range extender for the electric motors, driving a generator and thus generating electricity. The same way a BMW i3 with the optional range extender does.

Me too, had one for a few months. Was great when on battery only. Nice looking car, turning a lot of heads, however, range was terrible though and once the engine kicked in, sounded like a dying lawnmower. Glad it's gone. If that thing had actual proper range would have been great.

yah my dad worked for them back in 2012 and it was so cool going out in the 1 car they had for the employees to use. Sadly more and more people were getting fired or laid off and by the end of it my dad didn't see it coming and got laid off. He still has a karma that he uses during the springs and summers in michigan but its been hard for him to keep that thing together. All i can say though is that he got everything down to the T on this.

I've thought the design on this car was pretty cool. It had the styling of a 2 door coupe but it was a 4 door. But one autoshow a few years back, I sat in the back seat of one and it was a lot more cramped than I thought, the front seat has a bunch of components that doesn't give the rear people much feet room.
