I hauled cattle over the road for my entire first 3.5 years of my career. It's all I knew. Cattle is commonly considered the toughest job in trucking. 5000 miles between Monday and Friday was a regular thing. Now I'm 2 months into flatbed. I thought it would be a breeze coming from doing long haul cattle. Well.... I was wrong. Lol. Its alot of work and others always something else to learn. I'm truly enjoying the challenge and the constant learning. Awesome videos! Keep it up! I could make a whole list of things I've learned that have helped me with this whole flatbed adventure. Thanks!

You can always switch back to reefers and stay clean as you sit at the dock for 4 to 6 hrs waiting to load Then unload at your 2am appt, most of those places have real pleasant attitudes too, they're always happy to see you : )

Awesome video. I ran flatbed years ago and am currently coming back to flatbed in a couple weeks. On issue number 1 I used to carry coveralls. I’d change into them when I loaded or unloaded. That’s the only thing I remember. I miss the flatbed hours of make the same money and drive less. And yes sleeping better was great. As a fry box driver my mind is tired but my body is not so I don’t sleep well at all. Flatbed drivers are healthier for the most part

Great video! So I had my first flatbed load yesterday and delivered this am in Canton Ohio. I parked at the pilot at the 101 on 77 last night. I scaled and had a question so I asked the driver parked next to me also pulling a flatbed. Not only did he answer my question but past on years of knowledge. 1. Coveralls 2. Fingernail brush or latex gloves under leather. I haven’t tried that one yet. Sounds uncomfortable though. May work though. 7. Refers and freight trains? No problem. 8. Gloves. Costco 3 pack of leather $20. When wet, not so good. You know. Thanks brother. Quick side note. Re positioning the 660’s gauges is a good one to do. Not sure your visibility with that steering wheel , but the fuel, def, oil, oil temp, and oil pressure would be better located in the far right positions. It’s on my list

I guess guess coming from fuel as my 1st job in trucking to now flatbed staying clean is easy! #1 Wash your hands as much as you can. Every time you stop get into the habit. #2 Use 2 sets of gloves 🧤 1 for strapping down and the other for simple tasks #3 Change gloves or wash them few weeks that’s how your nails get dirty because the inside of your gloves are dirty #4 When strapping down wear a safety vest zipped #5 Carry a shine brush for your boots #6 Avoid rubbing up against objects, takings your time is the key I do these things and stay clean all day long and I deliver various cement products 2-4 times a day (full loads)

coveralls, they're useful not only when dealing with the f''king tarps and chains, but also in winter months, and in summer months coveralls make it easy to wear shorts. Tip- buy the kinda bag you use for laundry for camping, and you keep your coveralls and gloves and sweaty work hat in your cargo compartment, or your box with your tarps. gloves - i dont get how your nails looked so dirty from flatbedding, i work in the oil field hauling crude right now which is way dirtier than flatbed ever was and my nails are fine, (i feel so fruity for writting that lol) and there is more physical labor but there is so much less BS, vans and refers have have appointments that are crazy, you might have a 10am one day and a 10pm the next, you have to wait in lines etc etc, i've waited in lines as a flatbetter, like getting coils or lumber, but usually its not so long as vans or refers or tanks and I never heard of a flatbedder getting rejected because the trailer wasnt washed out,

Moose hide or elk skin gloves will last much longer. Pricey but I find they last as long as about 10 cheaper pairs. Duluth trading also makes a great long lasting glove with Kevlar in it. Keep a bar of hard hand soap in the truck. Scrape your nails across it , and pack it under you nails. It keeps dirt from getting it your nails and makes washing it out easier .ive done this with Bag Balm too. It stays in better

Solutions to your 3 first problems from a long time flatbed driver. 1 buy yourself a jumpsuit for loading and unloading. That will keep your cloths clean. Or buy a black jeans and a long sleeve shirt. And wear them only at loading and unloading. 2 wear gloves all times you are out of the truck. That will keep your finger clean. Also buy good quality gloves like Milwaukee demolition they are expensive but they last. 3rd if you do my tip 1 and 2 number 3 will help you have your cloth cleaner.

I have my comfortable clean driving clothes and dirty work clothes, and keep a laundry bag for once resetting at home. Thanks.
