I've had nothing but a good experience with Bruce Rossmeyer's Harley in Ormond Beach Florida. I got the extended warranty along with the service plan on a police fleet road king 3 years ago. In 2019 they were selling the police road king for 10k. Since then I've had a cracked header, leaky seals, broken pipe and blown transmission. The cost for all of this was in the $10k range and I paid absolutely NOTHING out of pocket. Everything was covered and thier service department continues to impress me by thier ability to go above and beyond. I will never go anywhere else to buy a Harley.

Loved your last point. If you are fortunate enough to own a bike that costs $20k plus, you might as well think on the positive side and not get caught up about costs for certain upgrades or repairs. Why skimp when you’ve already paid an high amount for something. I always say it’s one thing to afford to buy something. But you must also be able to maintain it. If you can’t then buy something cheaper and be happy!

If only people could know what it was like to ride into a H-D dealer in the 70's to 80's they treated you with so much respect and loved to talk about your machine. $3200.00 could buy you a brand new 1200 FXE off the showroom floor , I know people hate what I call ( real harleys ) AMF and pre AMF but they had soul and tons of power. Now it's all about the money ! 20,30, 40 or $50,000.00 or more for a bike and they act like they could care less about you or what you ride." NO THANKS " you can keep your rubber-band , plastic Harleys... J_D

Yeah back then you could buy a new Low Rider for $3,500 and a new Ford F-150 was $8,000 I get tired of all these old timers whining about Harleys costing too much today! Have you been to town lately a priced a new pickup truck? Harleys have always been expensive compared to other bikes but they’re no more expensive now than they were 50 years ago when price adjusted for inflation

The biggest thing with the warranty issues that were happening in the states is Harley was unjustly voiding warranty on bikes that had aftermarket parts when the failure had nothing to do with the aftermarket part. The ruling is simply making Harley prove the aftermarket part caused the failure before they void the warranty.

Hi, just found your channel. I like what you have to say, and thank you for sharing your experiences. I had the wheel & tire warranty on my 2014 Street Glide Special. I was cut off by a car and went into a pothole. I didn't go down or anything like that, but it was a deep hole, and it bend the wheel a bit, not enough to break the seal and go flat right there but you know it was coming. I went to my local dealership where I bought the bike, and they covered it without a question, it took a bit to get the new wheel, but they changed it out, with only the labor that I had to pay. This was pre COVID in upstate New York (just for reference) I agree with number 4 Labor charges are high at the dealership.

I always try to think positively about everything, we are on earth for a blink of the eye compared to eternity. I want to have fun on my Harley ultra limited and not sit around being miserable because of some small thing and let it ruin my fun. I'm 68 and am thankful everyday that I can get into the wind. I had a 2017 street glide and it was a nightmare of problems, but I messed up and bought the Milwaukee 8 the first year it was out, my mistake not Harley,my 2021 ultra limited 114 is amazing have had it 2 years and have 20k miles. My goal is to put 500k miles on it before I can't ride anymore. I have several riding buddies that have over 200k miles on their Harley's, having the dealership service their bikes and mine seems expensive but they know the proper way to perform the maintenance pays off in the long run. I've owned 2 BMW R1150RS. I bought a previous year model new and the dealer gave me a $5,000 discount off List. I've put 150,000 'sporting' km on these bikes with exactly ZERO mechanical issues other than tires, brakes, and regular maintenance. I do my own maintenance and typically don't even have to adjust the valve clearances after 10,000 km intervals. There's no question my bike is a well-engineered design that uses top quality components and assembly, that costs thousands less than a typical Harley. You won't see sissy bars, ape hanger bars, or tacky skulls painted on a BMW, for good reason... The Harley 'Performance Kit' upgrades are a rip-off. You wind up with the same power you can get off the showroom floor from other manufacturers for thousands of dollars less. And Harleys still typically weight hundreds of pounds more, so there's still no valid comparison... People are upset when the dealer charges a premium rate and delivers considerably less. You having to get your pipes changed twice because they put the wrong ones on, says it all... You can see then how their considerable profit is far more important than caring about you getting what you ordered... Aren't you lucky that the dealer can pick your pocket of $50,000 for a mediocre bike design that's over-weight and under-powered.

My dealer, during the 5k service, which costs me $400 to maintain my V Twin For Life warranty, charged me 2 hours labor for servicing my front and rear brake cylinders, which only took an hour. I asked why I was charged for 2 hours labor, when it took only an hour. I was told that 2 hours was their "flat" rate for that specific job.

Excellent conversation, and I agree with what you said especially the comment about running a business. Motorcycle manufactures, dealers and workshops are not charities. Early in my career I worked for a car dealership selling spare parts, at that time the cost of building the latest model car from spare parts was about ten times the cost of off the showroom floor, without including any labour. Parts and accessories are how a business makes a reasonable amount of their profit.

Ever since the three dealerships consolidated to just one in Honolulu, it has been a "must avoid" place. They sell used Harleys then make you wait three weeks for them to get title from the auction before they will let you take delivery. I was making my first payment with no bike. They don't keep any parts on hand and have to order ALL of them then mark them WAAY up. You cannot order from Mainland dealers as they won't ship to Hawaii.

Great video, cheers for that. At least you have some large Harley Davidson dealers around. Here in the South Island of NZ there is one reasonable sized HD dealership in Christchurch, a very small one in Nelson, and one in Dunedin. I enjoy working on my own HD as for me that is part owning riding and knowing your motorcycle. Unless there is something I cannot repair, my next HD dealer is a 4 hours ride to Nelson, or 3.5 hours to Christchurch. Over the years, I purchase 70% of my accessories from the US, 20% from Australia, and 10% from NZ. I do not have the feeling of being ripped off by HD Dealers as I do quite a bit of research before I purchase anything.

Dealerships in general, regardless of what brands they sell need to make a profit on every sale regardless of what they are selling. Harley Davidson dealers are no different, often much better and I don't believe any worse... What is different is the dealer principle that runs each shop and whether their strategy is low volume higher mark up or, higher volume lower mark up... My experience up on the Sunshine Coast was the latter, which always leaves a better buyer experience and impression on the establishment. Great trade in price on my 4 year old Softail Standard 107, so goo in fact, that I wouldn't have sold it for a better price! Traded for a brand new 22 run-out, floor stock Street Bob 114. The change-over was negligible, a few thousand and I was sold. So, a positive buyers experience in my case and miles better than what I can say from past experiences with other dealership in Sydney, selling most Japanese brands, Triumphs and BMW's. Easily the best deal Ive had buying over 10 new bikes/brands. It's a thumbs up from me... Appears, that same strong Harley resale in Australia can be appreciated when using a dealer when trading 👍*Side note... If you come across as an arrogant, poker face a-----h----- expect a bum deal. Ive worked in sales and the customers that are best taken care of are the ones that are genuinely in the game of buying, know their product very well, confident yet fair.

Only thing would be is,need to go to dealer every so often incase of software updates.

I find in North Carolina that I'd rather give my business to the (mom and pop shops) . I only use the stealerships if I absolutely have no other option. Also by and large Harley-Davidson doesn't want to work on any bike over 10 years old the word is in the United States. Motorcycles like the street glide and the Road Glide and the road king are probably still relevant with the twin cam motor and still in production with the Milwaukee Eights but other models I don't think they want to deal with because if they try and fix something and something else breaks they might not get the parts for it or they know they're going to be blamed for it. I'd rather give my hard-earned money to the independent little guy as opposed to the multi-million dollar corporations.

Keeping this discussion with the “Harley” parameters Harley Davidson traditionally sells all their merch at premium prices their labor costs while high are much less than BMW who here in the U.S. charge $160.00/hour while Harley charge $125.00/hour….the bottom line is that NONE of them are reasonable as far as merch or labor costs….they’re all ripping everyone off charging exorbitant prices for everything and calling it just “doing business” regardless of paying for knowledge or equipment….they could accomplish the same and or better by reducing prices across the board….history bears this out repeatedly…

I’ve had really good experiences with all of the dealers I’ve dealt With and understand that they have to make their dealership profitable and keep the doors open. I did have something happen recently that is disconcerting. My ECM went out on my 2005 Road King and the part is on back order until 3/24 because it’s been “planned obsolete”. They aren’t gonna worry about making/stocking some parts anymore for their older bikes. It’s kinda deceptive to market the history of a product but not even back up bikes that aren’t even 20 years old.. I found the part on eBay and got her fixed but that is worrisome. Still have loved all 6 Harleys I’ve owned over the years. Lots of independent shops and aftermarket parts manufacturers are gonna do well w Harley’s neglect of their customers.

It’s the last gen motor they made not 3 generations past… just is gonna make keeping her on the road a little tougher but she’s worth it. I consider my Harley affordable to own. I get 2 services done a year (3 oils, filter, spark plugs, clutch cable adjustment, all done by a HD trained independent mechanic with all the right tools & know how), which costs me $330 each service. I spend NOTHING on chain lube and valve clearance adjustments. Insurance is about $1.20 a day, which is pretty reasonable considering the insured value of the bike and what repairs could potentially cost. I bought the bike used, which had some nice aftermarket bits already on it (a big thanks to the original owner for being so considerate) and the bike is probably worth the same as what I paid for it after 2 years of owning it. You get the idea. Of course, none of what I just said would make sense to my wife.

I have had nothing but great experiences with family owned Harley dealership here, they have done everything they can with both my motorcycles to give me the best deals and service they can, and you can tell if you have looked around and researched the bikes and service prices beforehand. I think your point about angry people telling the world that Harley stinks is right on, and that doesn’t represent the reality well. I think a lot of people really trash them online and aren’t even interested in getting one. Maybe never actually owned one. They just like to go on the internet and complain. I love my Road Glide girls bike lol, I loved my Electra Glide that was much older, and they have really improved their products so I don’t see much to complain about.

I’ve never been charged anything beyond what was normal and reasonable or been “ripped off” in any way whatsoever. I’ve actually got some pretty good deals from them form time to time. I understand they charge a lot for labor and such but they gotta make money just like everyone else. Maybe we’re just lucky, or I am, but I’ve only had good experiences at our local Harley dealerships here.

Just came across these two vids. Your point about business and how businesses work hard, take all the risk and should get sometghing out of it or else they won't. As tot why there might be some who complain when someone makes a buck is pure and simple envy. most people instead of buckling down prefer to complain about someone else's good and well-earned forgtune. The positive side of life is recognizing the good fortune you have had for the work you've done at life means, you are going enjoy what you do with what you've got. Wingiung (great word) means you are cheating yourself out of what good fortunes you might have garnered from what you purchased. I waited myb whole life for the Harley. I have been blessed beyond measure with nearly 50,000 miles in the saddle and have been able to ride a variety of bikes the latest b eing my Softail Slim. The dealerhip and I are in a long-term relatiionship and we trust each other besides. Thanks for your post. best wishes for the miles ahead. G'day mate. (another great phrase whic I use eventhough I'm in no way an Aussie.

I think the main bug bear is Harley-Davidson knows you've managed to attain that premium product nobody Minds paying reasonable costs for services and accessories but they get greedy and compared to the aftermarket are substantially more. Example some accessories are nowhere near as good a quality as the ones that you can get from the aftermarket because some of the Harley-Davidson official stuff is made in China and places like that. Also like you stated you like to think that if you take it to an official Harley dealer for a service that these people are trained but I've personally come across some dealerships that not only had an attitude but their mechanics weren't all that ,I had one that rung off the bolt that attached my transmission lever arm to the spline and had to take it elsewhere to an independent no less to get it fixed.

I don’t find any difference in the costs between my Harley Davidson and BMW motorcycle dealers, but I have found a difference in how different Harley dealers manage warranty claims. Purely my experience. Generally, if you are a member of a HOG club you will get a discount on parts in my part of Europe. Both my local dealers give 20% on Harley OEM parts and clothing and 10% on non Harley items. It’s not cheap, and as a Harley owner you will buy a lot of accessories!, but its part of the ownership experience.

A great video, I enjoyed your take on the topics. I think most people can only draw from the experiences they have, a first-time buyer like myself will likely have tighter tolerances than a more experienced buyer such as yours-self. I love my bike wouldn't trade it... at least not yet, but if I did, I would still go HD.

I was at original home an bought battery from dealer I bought my Harley from. But when I got home battery wouldn't keep a charge. I called original dealer, where I bought battery, asked if they could help me.( I didn't want to drive through states for battery) Dealer call me back telling me they had made a deal with my local Harley dealer to exchange battery. Original dealer sent a Harley T-shirt to my local dealer for helping me. But my local dealer said, "F#k off", an kept T-shirt. Same dealer had a weekend sale. Sold me set of tires, but paperwork had his weekend deal costing more than dealer sales guide. I knew cost an called him out for cheating me. On same weekends people would come up to me an ask if I knew these bikes, dressed way I was? Could you show us some bikes? Joe, salesman is really nice guy! We don't want to talk to salesman, we want to talk to real biker. Being math teacher I like number an have studies accessories yearly manuals, could add up accessories an give my judgement on what type of riding they wanted. Finally I sold 6 bikes but got same "F" "Y" response from owner. So I never talked to people interested in bikes anymore. My home town Harley had weekend sale on hot summer day in Gladstone Oregon. Harley owner also owns McDonald's next door. While walking in Harley door greeter girl says she's really hot! You certainly are, I say! She laughs, no, I ment the weather! So I bought her ice cream at owners McD. Owner cones up too me an bans me from his Harley shop. So, I show him the $77,000 I have in my checkbook, walk out the door. Drive too closest Harley dealer an pay cash for 100 anniv Dyna! I go into Walmart next to Harley shop. Women an group of men come up to me ask if I like that Harley shop. These riders are members of famous biker drill team, telling me too stay away from that shop. Then I go through battery problems, kept T-shirts an 6 sales I got shafted on! Preachers seem to not like me either! Problem Harley having with dealers is home office requirements for huge building, millions of sq footage. Huge stockpiles of bikes, all costing huge money chasing out family dealer for huge corporate ownerships.

I say if your not smart and know what’s up with what you want BEFORE YOU GET THERE, yes they will try to rip you. Any work you do to your bike let the dealership do it so you can hold them responsible. Also any work done to your bike at the dealer KEEP ANY PARTS THAT COME OFF YOUR BIKE.

I think most of the HD parts are competitive on price etc. Like my Hammock seat was actually cheaper than a saddleman road sofa, but Next year will be interesting for HD in Australia , in regards to our economy tightening up . HD charging made in USA money , for a breakout made in thailand now , personally I would not pay that, on principal , when they are not passing on thai labour savings, to their loyal customers . Would you ??

well the issue is.. lets say you want (for whatever reason ) one of the latest ST bikes.
