Exept Hunter also claim to be the youngest golden guard. Philip saying "I hope he would last longer then the others" doesn't mean the others died in their teens! Thought their's a possibility that when making grimwalkers, you can choose their physical age instead of them automaticly being babies (This will be confirm once Belos makes a new one... if he succeed). It would fit with the fact that Hunter claimed in "Hunting Palismen" that Belos found him but unless the previous golden guard stole him as kid, he should have always been in the castle. This could be a fake memory to make him believed he had a childhood. This also means that Hunter is only physicly 16 but he's far younger then this.

It makes perfect sense for Philip to be a witch hunter, considering he hails from a Connecticut colony in the 17th century. The Connecticut Witch Trials, also known as the Hartford Witch Trials, occurred between 1647 and 1663. They were the first large-scale witch trials in the American colonies, predating the Salem Witch Trials by almost thirty years. A total of 37 cases are listed, 11 of which resulted in executions, which would not come to an end until 1670, so in his mind, Belos believes he is doing the right thing by destroying witches and demons, because he sees them as evil entities. In fact, today, witches are still frowned upon, we use the term as an insult, to refer to a bad person, when we say, for example: you know what? You're a witch, all because of the bad image we have. witch witches, like evil beings.

It would be really interesting if Philip and his brother were outcasts in their village, much like Luz, and Philip clung to an idealized role as a “hero” witch hunter, much like how Luz wanted to be a traditional “protagonist” so badly at the start of Season 1. The siblings seemed to be alone a lot as kids, and enjoy playing with their imaginations and OG Hunter’s wooden carvings, which isn’t too different from Luz’s imagination, seeing herself as the heroic figure Azura. Maybe Belos’s mask is even based on some kind of hero persona he created, like “Luzura,” which the show very explicitly has him learn and refer to her as. The Collector is sort of like Adegast in the second episode, manipulating Philip’s protagonist syndrome to reach some sort of goal. The difference between them is that Luz didn’t keep clinging to her fantasy, and she grew and connected with the people she met on the Isles instead of growing more bitter. Maybe OG Hunter (or Caleb?) was accepted on the Isles, and Philip felt jealous, as well as betrayed because his brother was associating with witches. I feel that the quote “us weirdos have to stick together” could come back soon with much more significance, as something that the Wittebane brothers said to each other before they inevitably didn’t stick together, and something that Luz may say to Belos in a dramatic display of her kindness as she tries to find some good left in him before he brings about the Day of Unity. I don’t know how likely that is, but it would be such an amazing payoff.

But I remember seeing a post on Tumblr explaining something similar. The OG Hunter's knife is straight and I think slightly curved. This could alude to him going on a straight path. You know, finding love and having a family. He was happy. But Philip's knife... It's jagged. The complete opposite of OG Hunter's. His mind has become twisted, not just from growing up in an era where witches were considered pawns of the devil, but from his friend or brother betraying him and the beliefs bestowed upon them as children. Both knives show the intentions of both parties. Philip has become twisted and unhinged from the betrayal, but OG Hunter is still trying to peacefully dissolve the situation. A situation that cause his demise, his lover to defend herself and their unborn child against Philip by most likely cursing him into who he is today. (Sorry if half of this doesn't make sense. I think up to the end was just a random ramble.)

As it turns out this isn't the first time we have seen the collector outside of their initial introduction of name. The collector actually appears in Eda's dream, being the figure that captures her with the net while she's near full beast. The sun and moon patterns are flipped in her dream, but it's a very similar voice if not the same and even has the moon shaped face. I have a feeling that the collector might be some entity of death itself, but that's not a fully fleshed out theory. Only little tidbits here and there with nothing concrete

My theory is that the Collector had something to do with King father. In Echoes of the past we see what appears to be another titan (which king's father/grandfather, was going to fight in that wall painting) which somewhat makes a cameo appearance in Edea nightmare in Knock knock on Hooty's door. The collector tried to do something with the evil titan and was eventually sealed away as a result. One important detail I think everyone overlooking, is when The collector mention 9 bright hue's. The Titian looks like it has awaken from it's slumber but in a disturbed way. Like waking it from it's sleep and cursing it somehow. Whatever that maybe I wonder if Belos has been freed from his curse by accident. If he managed to kill the palismen inside him does that mean it at bay or has he been freed from it.

So my working theory here that would explain how Phillip went from kinda prejudice to the extreme lengths of genocide I think would not just be him killing his brother out of jealousy, but his brother possibly deciding to give up on their quest to go home to live a life in the Isles with his love. So while Philip may have to a degree on an academic level softened a bit of the fear that would arise from being in the Isles, Hunter prime would have gotten really into it, or at least really into said mystery lady. So with this witch driving a wedge between the two brothers, the final straw could’ve been the brother saying he wasn’t going home anymore because he fell in love. Phillip could have, in a way to rationalize how in the heck his own brother chose a witch over him, saw it as a trick/spell of some sort. So Phillip tries to kill baby mamma, Hunter prime steps in to stop him, Phillip accidentally kills him and blames the witch for being the evil siren who used her evil witchcraft to corrupt his brother, also blaming her in the process. And to not have to face the guilt of his own actions would take his guilt and grief to the extreme of destroying all witches for what they have done. Turning it into a Nobel quest of some sort, only getting more fixated on this goal over the years.

One of the most darkest episodes in the series so far, but still an amazing episode.
@tomsparrow18232 жыл бұрын
My only argument with the family tree theory is that the timeline wouldn't really add up for Philip's brother to be Dell's father, because by the time we see Philip in elsewhere and elsewhen his brother is already dead and Philip has seemingly gone through four grimwalkers (or attempts at making them anyway) already, as it's been pointed out to me that the body in the background at the end of that episode has a tag attached to it with the number four. So, if Philip was already dead around the 16th/17th century, that means the baby he had with the Clawthorne Ancestor would have been born around that century as well, and seeing as there's no indication that witches live longer than humans, I don't think Dell is several hundred years old. That being said, the baby could have been Dell's great grandparent, possibly. I think that's just enough generations for it to make sense.

Wait what if the episode title code from s1 was about Belos, Hunter/original Hunter, and the Clawthorns? Two witches torn apart, now alone: Worked for Eda and Lilith at the start but could also sorta work with Hunter and Belos now (a little iffy) Two hearts of stone: Belos is a cold-hearted killer and Hunter (a grimwalker) has a Galdorstone for a heart A curse of feathers and mud: Literally the owlbeast curse that was split between Eda and Lilith and Belos's curse A betrayal of blood: Both Lilith cursing Eda and Belos killing the original Hunter and every Golden Guard after It's a little shaky but I think it's an interesting jumping off point

If the collector is in a dimension is similar to the one luz was in, maybe they're trapped because of the titan and the collector needs a powerful draining spell to escape. It seems like it would be a good deal for the both of them, the collector can escape, and Belos can get rid of wild magic. When the collector is talking about the day of unity, the bones of the titan shatter, maybe that's an indication of the collector being freed from a dimension that the titan keeps them in.

I immeaditly jumped to this conclusion when watching the episode. The fact that he comes from the 1600's, a time with large witch-hunts and religious fervor, and the fact that Phillip hates witches, only serve to prove that point Edit: also the fact that Belos seems to think he is in the right, and that Luz is craxy for defending witches and calling him out (As someone suggested in a TOH discord server, perhaps a nod towards the origins of the term 'hysteria?')

I have a potential theory for "The Owl House," could Luz (and humans in general) possibly be something of an amplifier for magic cast by witches? The reason I bring this up is because some of the most impressive feats (outside of Eda's) were performed with Luz either being directly involved or in close proximity to the spell being cast. Do you find this theory plausible or am I just finding something where there is nothing?

I was thinking it could be maybe a determination sorta deal like Undertale. Since in one picture you can see that his brother (who looks like Hunter) is running off with a witch. Idk I might be overthinking but it was a kinda cool detail

Two things I want to point out: 1. Eda may be a wild witch, but what if she mostly has been using potion magic this whole time? 2. I bet the main reason the clones chose to betray Belos is because he never gave them the approval they desired. Third Theory: Since Hunter ran into the woods, what if this is a chance for him to officially meet the Bat Queen? She seems to live close to the Owl House. Plus she took care of FlapJack.

Idk about that first one but agree on the second and they could also be kind deep down and not want to do the bad things they are ordered to do like Hunter

It’s so amazing how much story we could unravel just from background paintings

To tell you how good this episode was, let me explain: It surpassed Knock Knock Knockin on Hooty's Door for me. Yeah.

this episode was insane. i really appreciate these videos from you, because I literally didn't even realize that belos's whole backstory was in those paintings, which you laid out so nicely for everyone. For some reason a moment that really stuck with me from this episode was when Eda said, "don't crowd them." It helps characterize her as experienced with panic attacks and high-stress situations, and also as somebody who's super caring and thoughtful when things get serious.

After watching Hollow Mind, I have no doubt in my mind that Philip/Belos is irredeemably rotten to his core. I truly hope he receives every single ounce of bad karma he is owed for every horrible atrocity he has committed on the people of the Demon Realm.

Yeah. Recently, it seems like Andrias may have some shot at redemption in Amphibia, but Belos? Not. A. Chance.

I have to admit that the history of Phillip and his friend is just as interesting, if not more interesting than what happened in the episode hollow mind.

Something funny to note belos used the same kind of knife that Luz almost got killed with all the way back in season one
