Great list! The “why” for most of these comes down to price. The ALP is significantly cheaper than the competition, even more so for recent buyers paying $400. Why don’t we have better licenses? Because those licenses cost more money. Why aren’t the included tables as good as the Magic Pixel tables? Because that work would cost more money. Why don’t they include the VIBS? Because they can sell it to you for damn near $70 shipped. If I were then I’d prioritize a better on-device purchasing experience if there were any hope it’s drive revenue and I’d consider an ALP Pro that retails for around $1500, adding a 4K monitor, internal ATX mount for dedicated OTG, internal power management, bigger back glass with dedicated DMD… But I bet they’re in a pretty good spot with the price point they are at.

Hey, it's Chris from the BlahCade Pinball Podcast. Thought I might jump in and clear up some of those questions you had. 10. Art design - yep, it's hideous. Would rather they had slapped the Legends logo on the side of the cab and then left the backglass clean 09. Included tables - all these Gotlieb tables had already appeared in FarSight's The Pinball Arcade, starting back in 2012 with Black Hole. You ask why not better Gottlieb selection? Well, this was all FarSight had made! 08. Poor Quality tables - again, this is on FarSight who made these. They never upgraded their pinball engine from 2012, nor did they ever use high quality image scans, despite fans pleading with them. What you are seeing here is their low polygon count Android versions. Same goes for the physics, which does not hold up compared to Zen and Magic Pixel's offerings. 07. Table Purchasing - I don't own an ALP machine so I can't speak to it personally, but this one you can squarely blame the fault on AtGames as they created the storefront. 06. Licensing - Why no WMS/Bally? Simple, Zen owns that license and AtGames didn't partner with them, Arcade 1Up did. Stern owns the Data East/Sega license which FarSight used to have, but Stern doesn't want their tables available in a digital cabinet, otherwise all the Stern titles FarSight made would also be on here. The only license left was for Zaccaria, and AtGames partnering with Magic Pixel, who already had recreated the entire catalogue, was a very smart decision. Hate to say it, but AtGames should have spent the money to get Zen involved but didn't. 05. Under powered processor - it's an Android card, and not a top of the line one at that. But you said it yourself, the Magic Pixel tables play much better than the Gottlieb ones made by FarSight, and that comes down to MP having optimized their mobile versions much better. FarSight was notorious for the shortcuts they took, not their quality. 04. OTG inconsistency - again, can't speak to this as I don't own the cab. The bigger question though is, do you actually like where they placed the ports at the top of the playfield? I think that is a terrible decision, and they should have put them at the rear or side of the cab, with volume and such on the coin door. In other words, make it easy and clean looking to hook up your PC. 03. Proprietary cables - what blows me away is they almost seemed to resign themselves to the fact people were gonna mod the hell out of these, and then chose to make it just that more difficult for people anyways! Keep in mind too, their supply chain was greatly affected by the COVID shutdown, same as it affected Arcade 1Up and anybody else dealing with computer chips and electronics that come from China. 02. User interface - this is a weird one, as it's both AtGames' and FarSight's fault. From the videos I've seen, the Gottlieb interface looks near identical to what Arcooda had designed for FarSight (and believe me, Arcooda isn't happy about it being used elsewhere as it was designed for a touch screen). All the other tables might take their cue from Magic Pixel's interface, but more likely this is an AtGames design. Point being, this is what happens when you take shortcuts and use 3rd party elements in a one size fits all attempt. 01. Customer support - have you yourself had issues? Just seems weird to make the number one issue something that you've only heard about second hand. Dunno, just my opinion. Some things I'm surprised you DIDN'T mention ... - that plunger looks like a toy! - no accelerometer, instead you have to use buttons for nudge?? - front of cab isn't at standard pinball machine height, it's lower. Silly error right there. - should have had a 3rd monitor for DMD, right where that stupid AtGames logo is between the speakers. - heard nothing but horror stories about the haptics, as it seems everybody that owns one of these changes them out almost immediately. - the tables are seriously overpriced, especially considering what the PC versions go for on Steam. Just some ridiculous mark up right there.

I presume the multiple LED bars you have stuck to your machine are turned off during play, they would be slightly more distracting than the Legends logo! Got mine a week ago, I also have the Sharpin mini with PB Arcade, bursting to get Attack From Mars, T2, Medieval Madness etc on the Legends but looks like a dedicated PC needed and lots of spare time. I supported the T2 kickstarter on PB Arcade, gutted the way it went for Farsight (and us), but luckily I still have the table I bought. Really needs to be on the Legends though. The built-in Gottliebs aren't the best, and look flat as a f*rt on screen but getting used to it. A better ball like on the Zaccaria tables would help.

Now two months having the Legends Pinball. I do love it and I'm playing it a lot, but for me the biggest issue is the ~100ms flipper lag while playing in OTG mode. It's true that you get used to it after a while and can anticipate a bit with most of the tables, but really fast tables are almost unplayable. I did a few tests connecting another monitor (standard 32" office monitor, nothing really fancy) and still using the ALP controls, and lag was reduced by half. I'll probably consider a monitor swap one day.

Good video, I see the issues and you would think they just implement that VISB board by default now since most would want it. Another thing I think is a horrible design is having usb and hdmi slots on the front. Who wants a cable mess there? You want the cabinet to look professional and clean. That just gives that Chinese multifunction crap vibe to it with cords everywhere, really strange when it could have been on the back or underneath towards the back left etc. With that said I am still so excited for it and it is the best price to what you get ratio. Zen currently holds the home digital pinball rights for the Williams/Bally tables. In all probability, Arcade1UP probably has an exclusive with them. The included Gottlieb games were produced by FarSight Studios who actually has already developed digital pinball simulations of practically all of the Williams/Bally tables but are not allowed to sell them since Zen now owns the licenses. So the issue is not with the Legends Pinball machine being underpowered. If it could run the Gottlieb games developed by FarSight, then it could have run the Williams/Bally tables that FarSight had developed since they were all using the same gaming engine. Of course, the saving grace of the Legends machine is that you can mate it to a PC and then run the Zen versions of the Williams/Bally tables on it. (Or, alternatively, the non-licensed VPX counterparts which are in a gray area from a legal perspective.)

I agree most of them, along with the idea that most of them are pretty minor. The game does a lot of things right. I’m not sure why people hate the side art. Like what were they supposed to do, leave it blank? One thing that does bother me is that it will sometimes “nudge” even when I’m not touching it. That could ruin a game. Its something to do with the music volume, when its loud I think the vibration is triggering the sensor and thinks your trying to shake the table. But that seems fixable. I don't own a Legends Pinball machine as I don't have space for one, but I've been looking at the Legends Pinball Micro as an alternative. It seems like maybe they've addressed at least a few of the concerns on your list when designing the micro, correct?

I can't speak on the micro, I haven't seen one in person. It DOES look pretty cool though.

Why is Legends pinball stuck on wi fi loading?
@heatherruffing1175 Жыл бұрын
I totally agree with everything 💯 It would of been nicer to get rid of the Legends Pinball marquee and went with a bigger back glass. But we can’t win them all. What are your thoughts about getting the Buy Stuff Arcade’s Deluxe Back-box?
@digitalvictory8266 Жыл бұрын
I LOVE the look of the Deluxe Back-box, and it's on my bucket list. My main issues are: It's a bit pricey; and I kinda don't want to mess with anything, cause mine is currently working great.

The haptics were also bad. It's one thing to have weak haptics, I get that it's a cheap machine. But no one should have to add double sided tape to the inside of the machine just to stop horrible noises. I also love the machine overall though.

I have a makeshift vpin setup that doubles as my workstation (which is great for saving space). HP PC with a 1660 Super. 32" 165Hz 1440p playfield on a rotating arm. 24" LCD Backglass and Legends Gamer Pro for the controls. All mounted to an electronic adjustable desk. It is great for so many things, but it is pretty wobbly. Every once in a while I think "Maybe I should get the ALP" if only for the casing and haptics. But honestly, in the middle of playing, I don't even notice the lack of haptic feedback and I don't know if I could go back to 60fps. I'm really curious to play one though.

The USB was the worst. I went days going through multiple ones and having to order more, ended up having to use a real short one also. It's annoying, once I forgot how short it was and moved the pc, luckily I didn't damage anything but for a minute was scared I may have screwed up the USB port.

Pretty much all of the points with the included tables is because of their deal with Farsight who makes Pinball Arcade, and Farsight is terrible.
@hudson2441 Жыл бұрын
Fair criticism. But it’s still the best value. A1up are small, poor resolution and only give you one table. Top live Vpins are really expensive. Real pinball is ultra expensive. ALP is really upgradable so you can choose your level of expensive you’re comfortable with. The price I got my ALP at, I’m 100% sure you couldn’t build one cheaper from scratch if you wanted too.

So my thoughts on what i didnt like, haptics are #1, they were horrible when i got it, firmware updates have fixed it somewhat. #2 the 1080p screen is outdated now. Any newer versions should at least have 1440p. I know you can replace it yourself but im hoping for an upgrade from buystuff that doesnt render all the native games useless. This is more apparent for when you are using otg and a pc. #3 the otg loses connection to my pc too often. Its quite annoying. Some of the other gripes mentioned. I havent had issues with. I would suggest using wagners tech talk for some of the usb cables or connectors you need. His suggestions have been good. Although customer service is slow they have always helped me except when i mention a third party product then they use their usual we dont support that response. I guess my suggestion would be its a decent price to start but if you are gonna get a pc and a better backbox maybe just look at some other options out there. You can find a decent setup with a much better playfield screen for just a little more in the 4k-5k range, the best out out there is like 10k. I do like it though and the size is perfect for where i have it right now. And once you are into the hobby you have cool dudes like Ed giving sweet tutorials on how to play each table.

Hey Buff!! Good to see you bud! You make a lot of good points there. Especially #3, I have run into that occasionally where it just goes out (the OTG connection), and it like 5 seconds, pops right back on. Very annoying.
Having to sign in can be a pain when i play some tables then leave that table back to the main screen i get signed out

But wait there is more. I wanted to distribute their pins and arcades in my country in Europe. And they haven't even manage to take money out of me. It was offered to me to buy from some other EU distributor for the price over MSRP, while at the same time price was discounted by at least 20% from MSRP. I mean we get screwed a lot in Europe with pricing but really? I mean that is not really how You do business at all.

The reason why they don't have Williams and bally tables has nothing to do with graphics. It's because Zen Studios has bought exclusive rights to those tables. They are the only ones that are allowed to re-create them virtually. And Zen studios already has a contract with another virtual pinball table company. The name of which I forgot. But if those are the tables you want. You really should have bought that one. (I live in Europe where they sell the Atgames table but not the other one what really pisses me of) It's also really nasty move from both Zen Studios and the owner of those rights. Because prior to this Fairsight Studios owned those rights. They re-created many Bally and Williams tables. But once Zen Studios got a hold of those tables. They are not even allowed to sell those tables anymore. Despite the fact that they have sold them for years. And invest money in creating them. What must be a disaster for that company.

some good points and some not so good points, the licenses can be super hard. if you invest into licenses you need to earn the money back, that is business. having the best licenses in a small world like pinball is not very promising.

I don't know if it was the best they could do at the time, or they were just trying to crank something out for a sale booster, but the G-paks they included royally suck! Gottlieb had many great tables over the years they never even touched, why did they choose most of the duds?! Worse, why are they so crummy looking?! If it wasn't for the upgradeability I would have taken it back out of frustration!!!

If OTG wasn't an option, I'd gladly stay with my arcade 1up pinner modded table. So I disagree on the value of this blowing the competition out of the water. But now after spending $1200 on upgrading this machine I don’t touch my arcade one up anymore. Even so, the 10 Williams tables are so much better than those 22 Gotliebs

#10 - complains about the logo reflecting whilst having audio reacting LED light bars all over the backboard... Also, in your current set-up, do you really have any room there to be staring at the artwork on the sides of the case? #5 - processing power vs tables licensing - this is 100% speculation on your part. #2 - I have the Micro and I agree regarding the navigation with the D-Pad - it really blows chunks (and ties into your point about the horrible purchasing process - trying to enter all those codes with that damn D-pad). But, this is easily corrected by plugging in an Xbox controller. Out of all your points, I agree 1000000% about the purchasing process

@digitalvictory8266 Жыл бұрын
I respectfully disagree, CoffeeDave. It hasn't been an issue for me. Now, I readily admit that I am notoriously ambivalent to stuff like that. I'm sure if you took some kind of "Lag-O-Meter" to my table, you'd discover some sort of millisecond lag, (shrug) but I don't notice it. Honestly after a few balls on any given table (with Future Pinball, VPX, FX3, whatever) my timing is fine and I seem to score pretty good. When I lose the ball, I don't recall ever saying, "Dang this lag!" It's just my poor play! LOL
