Aussies are the some of the most compliant sheep on the planet, and I know this from travelling extensively. During the 'event' of 2020/21 I often made little quips about some of the absurd inconsistencies with masks and people's eyes would glaze over and go blank. It's mass hypnosis. The other day I heard a little kid, perhaps 5 or 6 years old, ask his parents why we have to pay for parking. It was a bloody good question, and I often think kids are smarter than adults because they know BS when they see it, before the system's conditioning destroys their critical thinking skills. Like most Aussie adults, the parents didn't want to know. They'd rather think about their home reno, their foody team or whatever ridiculous 'reality' tv show they're currently engrossed in.

@@roygbiv6010 yeah those crappy reality tv shows like the block or married at first sight or the voice are all created to give the illusion that we need to have the perfect home, a perfect partner or in the case of the voice , the silence and put down the voice of others , I have had friends go on these shows , I have worked on one particular show “which for contractual reasons “ I cannot name but I can tell you , much of what you see is faked , it’s a reality created to keep us at bay . Then the news is used as fear mongering to keep us silent or at bay

I think it's because we're so isolated. I've known so many Australians who literally have zero interest or knowledge about anything outside of Australia. And are PROUD of it. The majority of people in this country are psychological infants and have this attitude of "That's just the way it is"

I don't think people come to Australia to retire, they come for low skill because it pays much better in their country, so they send a lot of the money overseas. The best example, you had a handful of politicians just a couple of years ago blaming covid on the Chinese, and demanding that the Chinese par reparations to the world, all in a matter of minutes, not even the Americans were as sanguineous, that cost Australia BILLIONS in lost trade for nothing, with our biggest trading partner. So what was the outcome a participant is lining up to be prime minister, another has a prime ministerial pension for life, etc etc. An indigenous person gets 6 months for stealing a $2 packet of biscuits, if gets as far as court.

Hate to say it but as a non-Aussie living in Aus, it's pretty apparent what a house of cards this country is. The entire economy is built on the real estate bubble, I have never seen such a high % of people working either as a tradie, an estate agent, as some kind of manual labourer relating to housing (fixing air con, pools, fences etc etc) or working for a bank which in Australia means primarily in real estate loans and investments. All of that bubble was inflated with Chinese money from digging up resources and selling them to China for their bubble. All it takes is for the global economy to have another 2008 and for that money to dry up and I honestly can't even imagine how bad things will be here. Countries like the UK never recovered from their real estate bubble collapsing and they had big, diversified economies... Nothing happens here other than construction, I don't even want to think what happens to a country like this when it's bubble bursts, what happens to it's public services, health care, education, the general mood and feeling of the place.. It scares me. The complete lack of culture and depth is also an issue of course, sometimes I feel like I don't live in Australia I live in a giant Westfield.

Many Australians today are trapped in a system dominated by greed and large corporations, making it increasingly difficult for ordinary people to survive. The wealthy elite and powerful businesses are descendants of the old hierarchical structures we once served, perpetuating inequality and ensuring that the rich continue to amass more wealth while the average citizen struggles with rising living costs. This entrenched power dynamic, rooted in historical elitism, limits economic opportunities and widens the gap between the rich and poor. Without challenging these corporate giants and the inherited power they wield, society risks further marginalizing the majority, making it essential for everyday Australians to resist and fight against the corrupt systems that prioritize profit over people.

I'm not an economist and I could be wrong but I think most of Australia's problems are due to successive F-wit governments deliberately making housing more expensive on purpose. That's why they don't build social housing. This means that workers have to be paid more to be able to afford rents/mortgages which means that to cover costs, companies have to charge more for their products making everything more expensive.

It was the most toxic and abusive job I had ever done, and stupidly I tried four more times to get a trade. Fourteen years later, my life is ruined through a cycle of getting a job and working it the best I could for 6 months just to be told, "You're not a good fit" and "It's not working out." Now I am trying to fix my life, studying IT, and once I'm done, I'll be leaving Australia for good! And I get what you say about Australians thinking Australia is the best place in the world. I've always had the dream of moving to Nashville, Tennessee, and the amount of Aussies that told me, "I'm a f#ckwit," "idi0t," and "Have fun getting shot," things like that, always left me shocked, and I could never understand why the hatred and put-downs, so once I'm done tying my loose ends, I'm gone permanently, and I can't wait! Many Australians find themselves ensnared in a legacy system shaped by centuries of colonisation and entrenched power structures, where outdated traditions and elitist hierarchies continue to influence modern governance. While efforts toward inclusivity have been made, the remnants of these early power dynamics perpetuate rigid class systems that benefit a privileged few. This deep-seated conformity, combined with the rising cost of living-from soaring housing prices in cities like Sydney and Melbourne to escalating everyday expenses-makes it increasingly difficult for individuals to break free and pursue lives based on personal values and aspirations. As a result, Australia, once an affordable haven for the baby boomer generation, is becoming unsustainable for younger generations, who face mounting economic pressures and limited opportunities. Without collective action to challenge and dismantle these inherited structures, the situation is likely to worsen, leading to greater inequality where the rich continue to accumulate wealth while the poor struggle to survive. This growing disparity threatens the social and economic fabric of the country, making it imperative for Australians to resist and fight for a more equitable and sustainable future.

All true. For me I do have whanau (family) here in NZ, though. & that makes all the difference. 25 years working hard in Australia with no family backup got me nowhere except wrecked health. Without "the Bank of mum & dad" to give you a headstart it's just about impossible in either country now.

Totally true bro. I lived in Mangawhai when it was paradise, then the JAFAs came & 'gentrified' it. I bailed to Cambodia in 2018-19 & even though I live on the bones of my arse here I'd take it any day over returning to NZ. The very thought of it terrifies me, especially after going back for a month last year. Fuck bro, even the Northland Maori girl at Auckland Airport Customs said "Aw bro! You been gone five years & only brought two valium a day? Man, you should've brought a LOT more! You'll be glad to come back through here once your month is up & you can get back out". She was right too, I nearly had a nervous breakdown after the first two weeks, packed my bags & literally counted off the hours. All the time, my family & a lot of my friends tall poppied me & bagged out Asia. The pressure they put on me to stay was huge. My other mates told me to get back over here & hold on by my teeth. I felt like a foreigner there- they're either plastic vaxxed out zombies or nutty conspiracy theorists. Jacinda broke NZ, I hope she burns in Hell. I've got enough savings to last about another 16mths here if I can't get an earn going, but that's not even enough to get myself into a shitty one bedroom for the first month in NZ & at my age, my best job prospects would be working security at Pak'n'Save, or twisting a lollipop on the highway. Far cry from when we used to live free in housetrucks on the Mot riverbed & pick fruit back in the 80's & 90's...

Healthcare and dental provided… not some complicated tiered Medicare scheme… guns, hunting, sport shooting, you can have it all here… regulated but if you follow the rules it’s magnificent… fireworks… kids play grounds… peanuts for my kids… self reliance and self responsibility are expected not diminished or the state dictating how your kids use social or multimedia. Funny you mentioned youth crime and the nanny state, My biggest gripe with this country is the very complacent people and the stale culture they have. I'm going to use the issue of self defence as an example. Youth crime is steadily increasing with kids breaking into peoples home's with machetes and weapons, some even gang members armed with VERY illegal firearms committing full blown home invasions. You're not allowed to intervene or do anything about this in self defence or defence of your property. Most governing bodies lay the perimeters of self defence saying that you must be "proportional" in your actions; i.e. someone swings at you with a knife, you're not allowed to blast them with your firearm. You have to deal with the situation with as minimal force as possible or observe your "right to retreat". Proportionality in a tense situation like that is something I've seen soldiers even struggle with. Even if you successfully defended yourself within the realms of proportionality, you're still out of luck because now you need to prove this in court. You lose either way and this country makes no effort to rectify this concerning situation. We have a burgeoning crime wave and the collective response from the Australian people is "just get the police to solve it for us :)". Australians are HAPPY to have the government integrate, for better or for worse, into their lives. I also feel like Australians are FEARFUL of individuals with capability, even if they are good samaritans. My point is, the culture the people have made, particularly the boomers and gen x is to blame why living here has become an insufferable chore.

I came here in 2007 from the USA and hit the ground running. Bought a small block of land and then a run down house that my wife and I poured everything into and sold. This was before everything went insane price-wise. Wound up buying an old farm house in the middle of nowhere. Im unemployed and disabled but Im away from the mad rat race. No way in hell would I ever live in a big city like Sydney ever again. Living is expensive but have learned to live on next to nothing. In many ways its better, I go nowhere and I only spend on essentials twice a month.

I grew up here as a kid in Sydney. At the moment Sydney is safe, beautiful and busy. Sydney also has no culture or solid foundation on where it wants to go. It's just a big hub of hundreds of different languages and yes the nightlife is boring. Everuthing closes after 5pm. I can't wait to explore other countries.

What you said is nothing new, just look at the expats living in places like Bali, Thailand the Philippines, i was in shock when i travelled to Cambodia, there were more Aussies in Sikhounville than in some towns here. My message to anyone thinking of packing up and moving overseas is THINK LONG AND HARD about it first, don't burn the bridges behind you, the passport in your hand represents your home, the entry visa stamped in your passport tells you are a guest in that country (you have no rights whatsoever) spend your money and leave, think about your health, hospitals and medication, it's true in many countries overseas a house costs a fraction of what it costs here, you can buy one or buy five but you can never own it, the title must be in a locals' name, in Europe, the same, you can buy a property and register it in your name but as a foreigner you pay all the normal taxes plus a foreigner tax of 30% to whatever they want to charge you, how do i know, because i've lost thousands, do i care, not really because if it happened here i'd be well and truly broke, i always keep a reserve to fall back on, my recomendation is, be a snowbird, go overseas then come back for a few months, then do it again. Good luck.

Hey Carl, I have lived in 4 different countries before coming to AU. The one thing I have noticed is that, if you wanna live a life like a local being foreigner, you have to sacrifice. I think you know what I mean with that. it's not an easy life. Living in Berlin is cool, great if you are into a night life, street music/culture, clubbing etc. but you cannot compare Berlin to the rest of Germany, especially EU. I have lived there, this is where I have remember you, playing next to the Berlin Wall :) You are right about many things, everywhere is getting harder. I would definitely look into property in southern Spain or Portugal, but only if I have remote job or at least some employment security over there. People do struggle there a lot, thanks to foreigners like us prices are rising, therefore locals are being pushed out of their homes, neighbors, tows. So there is a negative side of that too, and I think this is similar of what happens in Australia now. Cheers

I fully restored my fortune. It is like returning to the dark side of the moon. being back in over-regulated Oz. Oz has gone downhill so far in the last 21 years. If my health allowed it at the age of 74 I would return to Vn tomorrow. Young men should leave now provided you have a degree. You are now second class citizens in woke, feminist Oz. The nghtife and women in Vn are fantastic compared to the costs of a beer in Oz and having to deal with loud-mouthed whale women in Oz. Vn is a HAPPY country. People know how to enjoy themselves. This is a forgotten art in Oz. No one ever invites you around to their place for a coffee or a Barbie anymore. What''s gone wrong in Australia in this respect? Don't go if you are a trademan etc. You cannot compete with locals on labour costs and you can make a fortune in Oz due to no supply and huge demand.

Yeah sorry please can someone just educate me, i see that minimum wage in Australia for 21 is $28/h and i also see rental properties on the market for about $400 a week in Melbourne. Also some decent houses and apartments for sale for less than $500 000, isnt this decent compared to the uk for example
@CarlTravels
@CarlTravels 2 күн бұрын
Your wage is twice as high, so while you might earn $28 per hour, in pounds thats only 14 pound per hour because our dollar is weak, now you might see rental properties advertised for $400 a week (I'm not sure what area you are looking in... because the nice area's are more like 550 - 700 per week), You might see one "advertised" for 400 per week, but 500 other people more qualified than you will apply for this, and probably also outbid each other and offer more. The average price of a "house" is around 1 million dollars, thats a 1-2 bedroom house in the inner city, or a 3 bedroom house that looks identical to every other house about a 40minute - 1 hour commute from the city. It cost around $30-40 for a pub meal, so 17-20 pound, a beer is $11-20 , so, 6-10 pound, cigarettes are 30 pound per packet, food shopping is expensive you will probably spend $300 - 400 aud per week on food. i'll be honest the UK isn't really any better off, this video is more aimed at people not from the UK, I wouldn't live in the UK either, you might have a little bit more fun in the UK though. Not that i condone this but.. if you like drugs... well.. $400 for a bag .. that might hit home harder, Also forget about having a holiday in Spain, or Greece, or if you want a "quick" trip back home to visit family, that'll be 3k return, and 24 hours. Your new holiday destination will be Bali.

@@CarlTravels Thank you for such a detailed response I really appreciate that, yeah I'm currently living in the UK and it feels like a total shit show, that's why I've been thinking of moving and I saw that with my passport I'm able to apply for the work holiday visa in Australia and just thinking if Australia would make me happier then this cold, wet, money hungry place. With the current area I'm living in average rent for a 1 bedroom apartment is £1000+ per month (excluding bills) while with minimum wage even working 35/h+ a week I'm only making around £1600-£1800, and with bills, rent and food it basically leaves me with nothing, so yeah while I do acknowledge Australia isn't really any better off, I'm trying to decide if it would be better than here.
@CarlTravels
@CarlTravels 2 күн бұрын
@ricardomendes924 Ultimately only you can decide, you could come here and find a dream job or meet the love of your life, or you could come here and hate it, either way you wont know until you try, regardless it will be a new experience, and you can come... if you dont like it, you can always get a cheap flight to bali or thailand and go enjoy some freedom for a few months, 2000pound you could live in south east asia for 3 months if you were cheap, 2000 pound in australia will last you 3 weeks. I guess the question begs, are you coming for an experience, or for a new life entirely. Ive met many backpackers from the UK who come for a year or two, (live in cheap sharehouses, eat cheap food and save a bit of cash, then head of to SE asia for 6 months to a year then head back home), that can be a fun different experience, if your looking to move here, well. you will probably find much the same as back home, working a dead end job you hate, to get no further than you were last week, last month, or last year, but maybe you have better weather. but if I could tell you one lesson I learnt... , in 2021 I met a couple from Alaska, it was covid and there wasn't much to do in Australia, we ended up both getting small boats, and campervans and going around australia together, we even joined some other randoms on a few sailing trips, we had the best time of our lives, a few months later they returned home and I found myself on a new opportunity another sailing trip ,this time to europe, we sailed from Cairns to Darwin and were meant to go onto europe after, i thought this was going to be the best experience of my life... oh boy was I wrong, it turned out to be the worst.. (I made a movie on it, in my channel), I wont go into too much detail, but at the end of the day, my experience came down to the people I met! it wasn't the place I was in... I was broken down in the middle of the desert at one point with the alaskan couple, and we still had the best time, even though my van was busted, and we couldnt move for two weeks. But sailing on this yacht, with this dutch guy and his pos gf... terrible. what im trying to say is, maybe Australia will have better weather... but maybe the UK you might have a better friendship group. But we all never know until we try ey! Best of luck whatever you decision may be.

@ I get the same shit from miserable Kiwis "Stay there then, we don't want you back anyway!" & shit like that. It's water off a duck's back to me now- if those are the sort of retarded, narrow minded hicks I'd have to be living with back there, gimme a hut in the village somewhere in rural Cambodia where the standard greeting is "Nham bai?' (Have you eaten yet?) & if you reply "Aht'eh, kh'nom aht nham bai" they howl "Oyyeee'h!" & pull you into their home & feed you. They haven't got shit, but they'll share their last grain of rice with you. I even get it in the cities where I'll stop at a Mama shop for smokes. Often they don't even ask, if they're eating, they'll just kick out a plastic chair & grunt at you to sit your arse down, share some roast duck & hang out. The whole west has lost that spirit. A couple of weeks ago the mamasan who runs a restaurant a few hundred metres from my house actually slapped me hard on the arms when she found out I hadn't eaten for three days because I'd messed up my finances. She was furious that I hadn't come to her & when I'd eaten the double portion she had made up for me, she sent me home with two days worth of food straight out of her own wok & a warning to never go hungry again while her small restaurant stands. That's the humanity the whole bloody West has lost.

I mean yeah Rupert Murdoch is a piecce of $hit, I think at the day any of those families all play a big part, corporations like Rupert Murdoch's media conglomerate and Gina Rinehart's mining enterprises, which have shaped market dynamics and policy decisions. Additionally, political actions such as former Premier Dan Andrews' stringent lockdown measures during the COVID-19 pandemic and their impact on businesses and the economy. These elements, combined with global supply chain disruptions and rising living costs, have collectively strained Australia's economy and caused this giant $hit show.

They have great attractions such as their museum, waterpark with concert stages inside, shopping centre, zoo, Congo river, and the best nightclubs with shishas, and their hotels are so nice. And outside the city is full of lush green grass. Also, I’m curious to see Cité du fleueve which is like Toorak here.

You have a bit to say about Australia and you offer us some insights about our lives post-Covid where our cities have been trashed. But what seems to be missing is any perspective about your place in history and just how harder life might been in Australia in previous centuries. Especially in other countries. Do you know anything about the horrors of the 20th century? World Wars x2, (please read about WW1) enslaved prison camps (USSR, China), 1950-60s threat of nuclear annihilation. Ever thought about being Japanese at the time of WW2? Ok, sounds like a lecture, but jesus man, the lesson you're not learning is that if things are not good here, it's not at all assured that your life elsewhere will be better... could in fact be a good deal worse. In your presentation, there's also a lot of personal entitlement hidden from view. You are also not understanding that, believe it or not, disappointment is a gift. Why? Well that's for you (as it is for all of us) to work it out, if you haven't already tried.

When so much has changed it makes sense to take stock of our life experience as where we live influences so much of it. Many of us feel exactly the same as you. Its hilarious that some comments on here seem to be actively replulsed by the thought of being critical at all or checking out of the Australian reality. Im also very motivated to leave and am making every effort to do so.👍🏻

Yeah, Apparently in Australia we are not allowed to have our own opinions, unless they are of how great the country is... reminds me of a few other corrupt countries... "cough cough nazi Germany, cough cough North Korea", are people afraid they will have a black bag thrown over their head or something?
