Ok, so for the sake of my head-canon I’m just going to explain this away by saying that the ortolans are split between two ‘breeds’. One bipedal and one not. Meaning some of them adapted differently much like how the iridonian and dathomirian zabraks are split.

very strange how they obviously went far out of their way to go back to Rebo's original concept of a two limbed blue thing instead of just sticking to what was established in legends, so all 2 people that new this fact must be very happy.

In CANON, The Forces Of Destiny episode The Padawan Path shows an Ortolan having 4 Limbs. Maybe Disney is telling us that it can be both ways.

The Book of Boba Fett uses the old style Ortholan playing in a restaurant joint (probably Max himself, though skinnier). This is one of the disney changes I like - which to me is a lot, for I'm more of an "Old Canon" guy :)

I think that the strongest canon here is Return of the Jedi,, since that's where Max Rebo appeared, and despite the original intention, the fact is that his legs ended up looking nothing like legs. So for me at least, those are his arms. But I am curious as to why Disney seems to be interested in reviving concept art. They've done that with Star Wars Rebels too in their design for Darth Vader and the lightsabers. Why? It makes it look different from the films so I just don't know why they want to do that.

Good news, BOTH versions of the ortolan are canon! Yes there are two legged ortolans but after watching the forces of destiny episode padawan path (which is canon bear in mind), a four limbed ortolan is seen!!! So see max Rebo either way you want

I think the easiest way to explain the fact both 4 limbs and 2 are both canon is to Alien it. The species may have a dimorphism where half the populace is mobile with lower limbs and the higher society only has 2 limbs; or, the lower limbs are lost with age and the upper limbs become the primary ambulatory medium

1:03. I totally disagree. I saw return of the Jedi in (around) 1990. I was 5 years old, and remember the max rebo character well. At this point i didn't even know his name. His part was very small, but for what ever reason, he's very memorable.

Max Rebo should get a solo series where he turns a lightsaber into an instrument and after that he enters a music tournament and becomes the best musician in all of tatooine, but then people take his trophy and his title as best musician so he has to recruit people into a group that will try to take back his trophy and title.
