The Truth About MBA School Rankings

Another myth connected to ranking is that only the top 7 programs (due to their network) or the cheapest (like BU Questroom, due to their ROI) are worth it and that a large band of mid-tier or upper mid-tier schools are nothing worth it because they don’t give you an Ivy League network but they are still quite expensive. What are your thoughts on this?

It's more or less nonsense based on people's mythologizing and glamorizing what a "network" even is in the first place. There is exactly ONE recruiting opportunity you will get because of the brand of your MBA - the first one. And all Top 30 MBA programs open the door to these. The rest will be based on your effectiveness as a professional, which will be based on your level of self awareness, communication skills, and ability to nurture actual relationships. Sharing the same brand MBA as someone doesn't get you jobs, It doesn't even earn an interview invite. It MIGHT get you an informational interview through cold outreach, but even that is not a given if you went to a big school. Focus on developing the skills that actually make you a delight to work with and you will never struggle to find your next opportunity. It has nothing to do with the brand of your MBA, because no MBA program teaches these skills. We do. That's kinda the whole reason I started Career Protocol. :)

Hey Angela , what do you think about MBA in Japan in general ?

I have no opinion about it except that Japan is a pretty cool place and if you like it and want to live and build a career there, than a Japanese MBA can no doubt help! If you intend to use a Japanese MBA to move to another geography, proceed with extreme caution and be sure to investigate thoroughly how that specific MBA program is perceived at the specific companies in the specific geographies you want to work in.
