I was there almost 5 yrs flatbed & bounced it was good 4 along time, they haul cheap freight, or skim off the top and give the driver 2 bucks a mile and collect on the back end too? Too much sitting, I do alot btr now with my current company, been here 5.5 yrs

@@MrLoudog7 yep still at Mercer and I am doing well. Mercer will take you with your authority and your trailer as well. You can book loads under your authority or with Mercer, they just want you running responsibly. Mercer is a nice safety net for your business, good people for support as well.

I was leased onto Mercer pulling a flat for a few years. Very very very few guys are averaging above $2 for all miles at Mercer. Thinking your going to do $2.50 all miles is wishful thinking.

Great video Ryan I been giving it some thought on coming to landstar soon in I really hope it works out on the pay rate because I been running over the road with soar transportation out here in salt lake Utah in it seems like landstar can bring more money to the table then these guys.

Good information again. However I did run some numbers. You said you pay for a trailer at Mercer. But you don’t pay for a trailer at Landstar. However you do pay for a trailer Landstar you pay 7%. There was one week you made $6000 I think you said. That’s $420 toward the trailer in one week if you did that over the whole month you’re paying more for a trailer at Landstar than you are at Mercer. I think there’s two ways you have to look at stuff. I’m not saying you’re wrong at by any means. I’m just saying the way I look at it is do you have a fixed rate over there here at fluctuates by how much money you make.

Jon Hanf I think if Ryan has paycheck of $6000 that week, Landstar posted on load board is 6000÷0.68= 8,824 before 65/35 split. 65%+3%(give or take 100%fuel surcharge) according to Ryan's earlier videos 7% of 8,824 is $618 for that week to pay landstar for using the trailer. I am sure Ryan knows about it but he has other consideration.

I started Mercer yeah it’s sucks to pull dry van, Tate’s rates are a joke ⁉️ gotta go step deck 2.00+ a mile ‼️

I actually went to Mercer to break into flatbed, but rates took a dive after I started, then all the flatbed guys started pulling vans screwing up our van load board. I've averaged a little under $2 a mile with van, if I was to go flatbed I'd like to be around $2.5 a mile with all the extra work and responsibilities. 75% of whatever number they come up with. Ask to see the actual rate confirmation sheet between the shippers and Mercer. THEY WON'T DO IT. They will show you an in house generated load out sheet but not the actual contract between shipper and Mercer.

I hate the deceptive nature of this industry. The freight brokers hide their commission (which should be illegal) and they double/triple broker a load (which is illegal).

If you are paying to rent the trailer, then how does that work when you drop and hook???

It is a pool rental agreement, so the rent basically goes on no matter what trailer you are using. I did very few D/H's at Mercer, maybe 5 in six months. Also, I don't remember if I noted it in the video, but they do charge you additionally if you go over 7700 miles per (i believe that's the number, its been awhile since I left), they track miles by satellite. I think they charge .03 per mile on anything over the 7700 miles.

Having been in both systems (Landstar and Mercer) hands down mercer is the best place! Mercer will not hold your hand like Landstar, the perks with mercer is the discounts... I currently pull van at mercer and the money us is staying within 1200 miles of Louisville or utilizing the DAT load board when needed to get back in our lane. I’m constantly earning $1.70 on all miles for 2020. I’ve grossed over $80k since Jan 1.

It seemed like there was a lot more "hand holding" over at Mercer vs Landstar, i.e., the load coordinators, trailer inspection and lubrication requirements, the fact that they want you to measure your own brake rod stroke lengths and sign every month (so they can pass all legal liability on to you), and they want you to return to Louisville, KY every year for an inspection as well. As far as their discounts, I got $50 off each on a set of Michelin steers at Mercer, i just replaced one that was damaged through Landstar LCAPP which got me $250 off each, and I get about $.25 more per gallon on fuel at TA/PETRO than when I was Mercer. As for rates, before covid19, I was averaging almost $1.90 per mile, to the truck, I am back up to around $1.70 now, and things are improving.

I truly agree with you on that point, getting paid quick is nice! If they had an option to not deal with a coordinator, and had the load board search power/ load alerts like landstar has it would be a lot better (for me anyways) over there, and do away with the "first in - first out" dispatch system. That's for me anyways, but different things work for different people! Thanks for watching and for the comment!

Been with Mercer for 7 yrs pulled flat step and conestoga. Once you know were the freight is you wont have to work as hard. Avg 195000 a yr and not work very hard. I my self only work about 20 days a month.

Road-Field-Home with Ryan & Sophia That’s good👍🏼 I have a 2014 386 with a Paccar ppl hate on it really bad but I do my own maintenance and up keep and all is well. Really no problems and I have 500,000 miles on it and All I had to do major was replace a fan clutch. Keep up the good work driver.

I did a lease on a 16' KW T680 with the Paccar MX13 prior to buying my T660. They are a good engine, I put 300k on mine with minimal issues, and got pretty good performance out of it. My only complaint would be with their software, it is hard to break into with any e service tool other than the OEM Davie software.

Road-Field-Home with Ryan & Sophia Fersure the davie software is really a necessity with this engine I’ve been cutting it close with simple stuff like replacing a fuel filter and abs lights. I think it’s the type of engine for someone who’s a little more understanding on how a emissions diesel truck engine operates. If you can would you do a video on you’re pinion of a delete in a Cummins.

No problem, I just did a DPF cleaning cleaning on my truck, and we had some footage to put up of that as well. I actually have a Bosch e tool that will read the codes on a Paccar engine, and Cummins, but just will not delete active codes on the Paccar. I am currently out on a West coast run right now, if I get time I will put something together on those topics, or when I get back home in two weeks or so.

Mercer was the big deal mid 80s ,but they too became greedy , greentree had it going on when they first got their wheels wet , they to went to he'll, the only way to make money with a.truck , YOU MUST create your own haul , that's the haul of fame 😉 I became disappointed with trucking in 2000 , good luck, you will need it .

This is not 100% truth. Mercer has a self dispatch board where you set your own preferences and yes yard location doses suck. But I only go once a year.

I average almost 2.25 pulling a van lol... I have no ideal were you got your figures... Unless you're in Florida freight is pretty good and if you like moving equipment such as forklifts and tractors which I love the rates are upwards of $3.50 to $4.00 a mile... $2.25 is about the going rates so your numbers are way off or you have no ideal what you're doing.

With your own dry van you would be at 72% line haul. Company van is 65%, and I believe if you had your own refer trailer its 75%. Thanks for the question!

you have plenty of time to get inspection on your equipment if you wait till last minute it’s not mercer’s fault

No it's not there fault, but the simple fact that they basically have 1 inspection per state puts the driver in a bad position and is quite frankly a joke. I'm not going to drive 200-300 miles out of route at my expense to get an inspection done that is technically still valid for another 6 months. In some states out west, it can mean going 500 miles out of the way for an inspection. At Landstar we have 15 to 20 sites per state, alot more convenient, economical, and easier for drivers.

Mercer also puts cheap broker loads on the ld board. They want you to haul their contract freight, which pays good...but you end up sitting on a ld out. Most lds in dry van pay under 2 dollars. In this market not enough. I'm leaving this sh!t show. To much dead heading to.

If your wanting to turn and burn your likley getting 2 or less a mile at landstar aswell they just don't take there cut until your settlement. So there loads paying 2.70 are actually 2 bucks unless you do the math. And as far as you seeing what they charge the customer that's b.s. you get a rate confirmation from the agent for what they poet it at but you have no idea what there customer is actually paying.

Remember just because it didn’t work for him and there was things he didn’t like does it mean it wouldn’t work for you. There’s another guy who’s done videos driven trucking. Brian. And he like Mercer a lot he’s at Landstar now but I don’t think it was because of anything that Mercer did. Do the homework yourself. Don’t just take one person‘s word for it you gotta go and do your homework to see if it’s a good company or not.Most of the drivers I’ve talk to on the road at Mercer I’ve been there for years and love it. Of course you’re going to get some that hate it. The company I’m with right now oh god they are bash left right and center all over the Internet but I’m here they’re not that bad of a company. But if you are making a decision up because of what he just said and only him that we like you listen everybody about the company I’m with. I did my own homework. Like I said it may not work for for him but it may work for you do your homework.
