I know this will happen, so I'm putting it out there ahead of time; there is no comment being made on any anime shown in this video in particular. If you enjoy something shown and do not like it is being shown over criticism of isekai as a genre, don't take it personally. Sources for claims can be found in the description of the video.

Good video and this reminds me of why Japan needs Georgist reforms/higher wages/worktime reduction/a nationwide jobs guarantee and Workplace Autonomy (Job control)/worker board representation maybe.

Another thing to note about 9/11 is that it completely changed the way arabs are seen in media. Before 9/11 arabs were often shown as friendly people and the noble arab prince was a stable supporting character in fiction. These tropes pretty much died after 9/11

Isekai isn’t bad there are many good anime that involve this premise, it’s just there are by far more generic and lackluster ones that are only made to make money off the genre.

Fr, they gotta get more creative, like look at re zero, that's an Isekai and I think it's one of the best anime Ive watched, but then we got ish like I reincarnated as a vending machine

@@mysmallnoman it's unoriginal, they make their characters op for no reason other then for fun, basic mcs, basic female lead, basic side cast. Isekai isn't bad as an idea, I think it's pretty cool but they gotta do the genre better. And no I don't mean turning the character into something other than a human

Fantastic video, and a neat history lesson too. I hope this one blows up for you! Almost everyone I know seeks some form of escapism, so it's not at all surprising to see that Isekai became such a prevalent genre. I think a lot of people hate it these days simply because of how much there is. The market has been saturated with Isekai for a long time, and I don't see that changing either.

Imagine a isekai, but the protag is truly terrified with a different world, for example the common height for the species in this new world is like 15 FT for example compared to humans being 6 FT commonly

This was a very insightful video that went into various aspects of Japanese society and structure (and also the lackthereof. It seems like to Japanese people, being Japanese means living in a state of loss as the world keeps putting Ls on your plate. With a learned mindset like that, it makes sense that any form of escaping Japan and being anywhere but is a W and a step closer to happiness. Thank you for this very well-crafted piece.

I really liked how you related the development of media to history and although as you said it isnt the only reason it is 100% a factor when it comes to modern society. Also, I feel like ideas of escapism really put a strain on the genre as most of the time its the same stuff done over and over again. The only shows that I can think of that slam reality in the face of the protags are Ascendence of a Bookworm and Re:Zero as their "powers" are literal curses that manifest the characters and their personalities. Despite not neccesarily being a bad thing power fantasies, in my opinion, hurt my perception of the characters as it portrays an unrealistic viewpoint on life.

It's sad that so many "transport to other world" animes get cold treatmente for something they don't do. Digimon can be considered an isekai, in Frontiers, a kid that is in coma, got transported to other world, an examples can go on and on. We have isekais, that are inofensive, they can be dumb, but are inofensive. But, then we enter in the "core" problem, 3 famous isekais, that go so out of control in diferent ways, that the whole genre gets a bad fame. It's something that the "shonens" get, for diferent motives, but one thing both have in comon, is the way the female protagonists are treated, not in all manga and animes kk. Oh, and great work with the video

if people are so frustrated with Isekai's current state, then start making changes to it. Take the formula more seriously, make better male protags who actually try to EARN the girls affections to show that women won't just fall at one's feet they have ideals and aspirations of their own.

Japan developed very fast, but people there are close and respect their culture, unlike America. Also, I dont hate Isekai. I hate people who call females with feminine qualities weak.
@thomasffrench3639
@thomasffrench3639 Жыл бұрын
I feel like it’s a more of toxic femininity of women relying on men is the problem, not being feminine exactly. Sure there’s nothing wrong with a woman who wants to be a stay at home mom, but it should be more of a team with her husband than the husband is in charge.
