🩺ABOUT DR. BREWER
Dr. Brewer started as an Emergency Doctor. After seeing too many preventable heart attacks, he went to Johns Hopkins to learn Preventive Medicine. While there, he went on to run the post-graduate training program (residency) in Preventive Medicine. From there, he made a career of practicing and managing preventive medicine and primary care clinics. His later role in this area was Chief Medical Officer for Premise, which has close to 1,000 primary care/prevention clinics. He was also the Chief Medical Officer for MDLIVE, the second largest telemedicine company. More recently, he founded PrevMed, a heart attack, and stroke prevention clinic.
At PrevMed, we focus on heart attack, stroke, and cognitive decline. We serve patients who have already experienced an event as well as those who have not developed a diagnosis or event. Dr. Brewer provides services via telemedicine. We find a lot of undiagnosed prediabetes or insulin resistance. Treating unrecognized risk factors like prediabetes allows reduction of risk and prevention of disease.

the problem with getting a calcium score is it has no meaning if you've been on long term (say 5 years or more) high dose statins. being on statins for that duration will greatly increase your calcium score, its called the paradox of statins. reduces your chance of heart attack but raises your calcium score.

I mean common sense if you're not feeling any symptoms why get it checked anyways. Because you're paranoid. I just had it done because I was having symptoms. Nobody should just randomly get test done just because

I was told by a Senior Resident in Neurology to NOT have the surgical procedure to repair in my heart the PFO because at age 61 I am too old. My stroke in 3/21/21 is of unknown origin with PFO being the most likely. He wants to have me undergo another MRI to determine if I have had many small transient strokes since then. My chief complaint is epileptic fits that started (?) most significantly on 12/1/21 and persist about every 2-3 months. I am not asking for medical advice. I hope those who comment on your channel with understand how this may/may not be their experience. Why is this newly minted Neurologist sending me to a Psychiatrist? Tacitly he is calling me crazy, I think he is just too ego driven (or burned out) to admit my case of one stroke and multiple seizures is beyond his comprehension. EVERY PT. has multi-factorial etiology incidents; yet I can't sit in on a conference call with 2 Neurologists, Intervention Cardiologist, Primary Care, and Physical Therapist. THANKS 4 LETTING ME VENT. How do we as consumers of for-profit medicine; change the paradigm, to demand a single event conference/zoom call that I am listening to and keeping my mouth shut, simply evaluating who seems to have the "better" path forward?

My Cardiologist has me get a Nuc stress test about every 4-5 years. I have Printzmetels Variable Angina, and one 13 year old Stent ( with a 60% obstruction as of 3 year ago Heart Cath). I cannot seem to get anyone to understand that I spent many years doing industrial x ray imaging ( including iridium and cobalt) with a careless sloppy company and that I have already been dosed with about 5 times a lifetime dose of radiation. I keep hoping for some form of MRI with a contrast that can be used instead of the nuc stress test.

Hi Doctor Brewer: I’m 72…My PCP insisted I get a nuclear/adenosine stress test b/c of a positive CAC score and family history, although I had no symptoms-he wasn’t familiar with CIMT, which recently indicated I had stable plaque…after having an inflammatory panel, I also started on Rosuvastatin and Ramipril, as you often recommend…reluctantly, I succumbed to the pressure and agreed to have the stress test-fortunately the results were good…as you frequently say, most docs aren’t onboard the “prevention train”-you’ve warned us many, many times…thanks for providing the education to guide us through the medical maze!!

I just had the treadmill stress test today. I thought I was going to die the second I got off the treadmill. The stuff the injected me with... Not sure... My whole body went into twitch mode. My heart was beating oit of my chest. I NEVER want to do this again. I hope everything comes back normal or ok. Good grief... Heart disease on both sides of my family. Mom died at 41 of a stroke after a heart attack. My father had 4x heart bypass in his early 40's and has 6 extra stents in him now. I have been having chest discomforts for over 6 months now. I am not over weight. No drugs or alcohol... I eat pretty healthy. 🤞
