The problem with Ozempic is that it should be prioritzed for people who actually need it for medical reasons (diabetics), and not for cosmetic reasons. There is now a shortage of Ozempic for the people that genuinely need it to live.

This! My diabetic spouse did well on it until we stopped being able to find it. When we can find it, it's no longer affordable. He got changed to a different med that works OK. It doesn't work as well, but it's must more cost effective for us.

I was overweight by medical standards. I started Semaglutide/Ozempic. I’d already had digestive issues; I take medication to keep my colon functioning regularly. I was nauseous 24/7. Cut to four weeks later - I’d had enough. So I stopped taking the meds. The “five weeks” it takes for this medication to leave my body was absolute hell. Disclaimer - I also deal with bipolar disorder. So I had no idea how much this medication would affect my bipolar depression. I have fought for years to find a balance of meds that helped me live a “normal” life; Ozempic undid all of that in a few weeks’ time. This was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever dealt with. Pleeeeeease, please, do yourself a favor (if you’re thinking about getting on this med) and do your research. Advocate for yourself. Being skinny and acceptable by societal standards isn’t worth the mental anguish/physical side effects that can derail any progress you’ve made. All of this is said with love. ❤️

I’m so sorry you went through this. There is too much focus on skinny being healthy is a worthy goal and lifestyle changes must be made especially as we get older we can’t eat and drink the same as we did when we were young . Food is medicine or a slow form of poison I’ve seen people reverse their diabetes with a good eating plan stop looking for a quick fix . I know that bi polar meds cause weight gain I’m not an expert but there has to be a way without meds for you to lose weight and stay on track without these experimental drugs. Keto is absolutely life changing for me and food isn’t ruling my life anymore. Much respect, good luck

So many people commenting on how poorly Sharon and Kelly have aged. Reality is ...they likely aged perfectly fine. The real issue is the fact that theres entirely too much pressure on women to look "young" and thats where plastic surgery comes in. A nip and tuck here and there is totally fine if it makes you feel better. But some celebrities get to the point where its never enough. Madonna is another prime example.

Well on a side note Botox causes your muscles to atrophy. I have a friend who is a dermatology nurse and the skin esthetician. Her aunt is a dermatologist who she works for and she told me that she's had Botox not the aunt but her but then when I asked her about the muscle atrophy she says yes that happens. And I said to her but they said that when you stop taking the Botox injections that the muscles will heal and she said yeah but it can take a long time and it doesn't always happen and yet she was still using it even though she knows this could happen. That can happen when regular muscles atrophy and it takes a while to build them back up but it's scary it's like you're destroying your muscles Just so you Don't have wrinkles or prevent wrinkles

My fiance is diabetic and was placed on it. He was going to refill and was denied a refill. He called his doctor and was told he shouldn't be. So he called the pharmacist to where gets his meds. Was told they were out of stock for them. And he should try other local pharmacies and he did. The pharmacist told him the truth. That no one has them in stock. The manufacturer is on backorders till July. He was told he could get something else till it's back in stock. People like him are going through this right now. And that's here in Wisconsin. I can't imagine other states and people going through. Now he'll have to go through drug withdrawal because he got used to it. And then go through the sickness which is different for everyone. When you start new meds. He can't get the med he's on because people are taking some of it away from them. It's just frustrating us. He could go into diabetic shock. Which he's had in the past. Soon I will be helping him to get his meds. That's if they don't change too much or charge too much. I am really worried about him. People are taking it away from people like him. I try not to cry but I am really scared for him. We're in our 50s. And I am scared and worried.

The face isn’t due to Ozempic itself though. That’s just what happens when you go through rapid weight loss or when you lose a significant amount of weight. Kelly, I usually agree with you on most things but not on this. My diabetic spouse did well on it. He was able to control his diabetes and he lost about 40 lbs. That was, until we could no longer get it. No pharmacies within 50 miles of us can seem to stock it. The only way we can get it is to order it online from a place that doesn't take our health coverage. He's been put on another med that's less effective, but will do. It's been deprioritized for diabetes and prioritized for weight loss as a cash grab. It's sad that we can't get his medication without spending $1k+ a month or of pocket. Please see this side of the issue, Kelly. Someone like you telling the public that it should be made a priority for diabetes patients might help.

My diabetic husband just started one month ago. We had to wait a few weeks to find a place that had it, I called 19 pharmacies everyday then had to tell the Dr where to send the script. Twice they sold out before they got the fax from his Dr. we finally got it. He’s lost 40 lbs so far. Started at 330. We had to do the same routine this month (second month) to find and get it. I’d like to try it, but I’m not diabetic so it’s not covered for me. And I’m not obese but could lose 20-30 lbs for my perfect goal weight. so I agree it needs to be for diabetic people. I’ll lose the weight naturally by following a calorie deficit and low carb diet and walking.

I was told by the dr at the hospital that he had seen quite a few people with serious side effects from ozempic and to not have another injection of it. I spent over 2 weeks in hospital. I now have to see a specialist for my liver problem as I still have an enlarged liver though not as bad as it was I have to take medication for it and still have constant pain and it has been over a year since I had ONE DOSE of it. I am not telling people not to take ozempic it does work for some people and they have no side effects I am just warning people to be aware that like any medications there can be side effects and to be aware of it.

Yeah! And obesity is also classified as a disease! If we cure obesity (with help of a drug, same as cancer patients do) then look how many side diseases we prevent - strokes, high blood pressure, depression, etc. No one is treating those cases as valid and still it is said widely in society that obesity is a “lazy” disease - more often than not it isn’t 😢 and some obese people can’t even take ozempic anyway because the side effects are too strong, e.g. constant vomiting. Let the obese (sick) people get their treatment too!

@@kyledcunningham I'm not sure I understand what are you saying. Are you saying that people who want to loose weight to look goog but don't have diabetes can loose weight by exercising and dieting only or are you also including people with diabetes? Most of the people who need Ozempic, can't loose weight through dieting and exercising only because food is a coping mechanism for trauma or depression or other conditions. They need to loose weight in order to manage insulin produced by the body. If there's too much fat the body can't manage it properly. Exercise is also an issue because it's not seen as appealing: there's no joy in going to the gym, getting stared at or hearing comments from others behind the back. It's exausting if you are overweight. You sweat a lot, the joints hurt, your back hurts you can't stand for long periods of time and then there's the pressure to show you are capable just like everybody else but you can't because you get tired fast. You go home, you feel defeated and you start to feel hungry so you end up eating to console yourself. The cicle restarts. P.S. I'm diabetic and on Saxenda at the moment, waiting for Wegowy because Ozempic is not being recognize by the Health Insurance. I'm one of the "most" that I described above. 😊

So here's there reason why there is a shortage. I use to work at in outpatient pharmacy and younger people from ages 20-40 were given medication called Wegovy which is an injection to lose weight. It was marketed like that but the problem was that just like Ozempic, there are doses and while the demand was high, the supply wasn't. So the Wegovy patients started getting mad because they didn't want to gain the weight back they lost and this is continuing medication that they have to take for about 6 months. Doctors started presribing Ozempic instead. Which was intially more for diabetic people. There were now people who wanted it for losing weight and other for diabetic purposes. Now there is a shortage for both.

I work in Interventional Radiology as a nurse practitioner , I would say that about 70% of our patients in need of infiltrations are overweight and a good 40% are obese to morbidly obese. A lot of them suffer from severe chronic pain that is in direct correlation with their weight. I live in Quebec so the waiting list from diagnosis to intervention is somewhat long. Of course , patients suffering from diabetes should be prioritized but obese patients should not be forgotten. Chronic pain can lead to severe depression and for a lot of people , sadly , it doesn’t lead to making the effort to change naturally and they need help. I think it shouldn’t be prescribed to people who just need to lose a few pounds.

I don’t have a problem with the idea of targeting obesity with Wegovy to provide a better quality of life. Also , this medication is not magical , patients need to put work into it in order to see great results , making it easier for them to lose weight would balance out the fact that it’s very painful for them to exercise for them.
