@SoybooCow6 күн бұрын
@paulroman3402 I never tell people what/what not to do. My only advice is this: Don't buy a property, rental is a better option. If you change your mind about location or surroundings, it's much easier to move on. Try 6 months in a city, then 6 months near a beach. See which you prefer. Best of luck with your new life👍

If you want a break from the temps and the humidity, you could spend a week or so up north. This morning on the outskirts of Chiang Mai city at 7 am it was 14 degrees, cool enough that I rooted out a pair of trousers and a long sleeved shirt rather than shorts and a T-shirt. I've been living here for 6.5 years, my attitude to visiting Bangkok is the same as visiting London used to be: avoid whenever possible! The last time I was in Bangkok was almost 3 years ago, the cost of living was noticeably higher, plus it's just too busy for my liking, so I stay up north. To be honest, I prefer mountains to the sea, from the window of my house I can see Doi Suthep, which suits me, but each to their own. I agree with you about Thai, it took me 6 years living in Germany whilst in the army to learn very basic German, picking up Thai at over 50 seems impossible. When I speak Thai, I get blank looks, my wife says exactly the same as I did (OK probably very different to me!) and people understand fine, it's not encouraging to try and learn more. I will say having a Thai wife makes many aspects of life here very easy, including being able to buy a house, and technical aspects of searching for specific tools, hardware, paint etc. One of the most interesting things that's happened to me since moving here is no longer following events in the UK. It's not that I'm uninterested, but not being affected by 99% of it, means I only tend to find out about things well after the fact. I have come to realize that many of the English people I know are very much within the bubble of English news, living here means not getting a daily dose of government approved news stories, and I look more at non UK opinions of events and form opinions based on multiple perspectives. For most people it's difficult to look at life from outside the bubble when you're still living in the bubble, leaving the bubble has changed my opinion about unbiased UK news. I'm an introvert, I don't have any friends here and didn't have any close ones in the UK. I am friendly with some of my wife's close family, and I occasionally exchange a few words or nod's of recognition with foreigners living here, but I'm content with keeping myself to myself. My wife is the same, we fit well together and get along wonderfully. I can't imagine anything that would cause me to return to the UK, I certainly wouldn't choose to return, about the only UK foods I eat now are Worcester Sauce, Marmite and occasionally fig rolls, so even food wise there's nothing I can't get here if I have a mind to. I don't know why YT pushed your video at me, but it's interesting to see different ideas/thoughts from a UK man living here. Good luck with you life in Bangkok, long may it continue.

@@ThailandBound, I agree we must have balance, but I can honestly say, having dated many Thai girls, that a glass or three of wine helps in many situations. An Italian meal without some red wine seems abhorrent to me. I try to stick to my rule of social drinking only (no solo binges). If no one is there, I don't drink. This way I can still enjoy with my dates and meals. Thanks for the videos again - I will keep watching :)

Thanks for the video update on how your move has turned out for you. Happy to hear your success story. I have been following your channel for some time, but to be honest...I refuse to watch the "stories" any more. Nothing against you...just the nature of the content. I am in a relatively "new" relationship with an amazing Thai woman. She is a senior level school teacher. I have known her for 5 years, and we finally decided to make it an official relationship one year ago. I went through a period "binge-watching" the stories. Then, I realised that my attitude, my approach to my partner was changing. I started to doubt, question....generally feel dysphoric about our relationship. It took me a short time to realise that all the negative content was starting to "rewire' my brain. How amazing that a negative overload can influence someone at the age of 62.... even someone with a very solid grounding in psychology and the human condition. I stopped watching the stories, did some self-assessment, and now our relationship is back on a solid track. She truly is an amazing woman. I view myself as one lucky man.... I will put up my hand and take responsibility for my own role in this. Keep doing what you are doing. As to your previous comment...absolutely, make more positive content like this. I will be sure to watch! Thanks for the great work!

I fully understand and congratulations for being in a successful relationship the whole point of those stories are really just to warn guys what kind of girls operate bars and GoGo clubs. Hi there Neil! This is a serious conundrum for virtually anyone over the age of 65 wishing to retire in Thailand. I suspect that is the reason you have reached out to me. Basically, during my investigations prior to making my decision, I discovered that Insurance in Thailand for over 65s for anything is virtually impossible. With regard to Health Insurance- forget it! This has been verified in a number of attempts both via my own applications and those of Thai acquaintances within the Insurance industry. It’s impossible. My experiences have also uncovered some interesting facts. For instance, whilst you can obtain insurance with companies outside Thailand, most Thai hospitals will not recognise those policies, thus making them invalid. Another fact I uncovered was that if one is able to obtain insurance prior to age 65 the Thai insurers are quite happy to continue that cover beyond 65. Obviously the premiums rise accordingly. Personally, my approach was to investigate the average cost of treating those illnesses and conditions that I was likely to encounter and ensure that I had a back up fund which could adequately cover those likelihoods. So far it has worked. I have had a stomach complaint dealt with, a melanoma removed and a new titanium knee. This may well have been long winded and somewhat convoluted, but I can only hope it is helpful to you. All the best

I've lived in Thailand for eleven years, almost ten years in Cha Am and I love the tropical climate. Yes, the heat can be a bit much at times, but living in Cha Am, we tend to have consistent nice sea breezes that keep the humidity down a bit. I have a friend who lives in the mountains near Chiang Rai and he posted a photo of himself this morning wrapped in a jacked with a ski cap on. It was in the mid 40s F. Doesn't happen often, but it can occasionally get pretty nippy in the northern mountains. If you like the beach, you should visit Sam Roi Yot, about 30 minutes south of Hua Hin. Stunning beaches! I've got a good friend, English, who owns a hotel down there that I always stay at.

I live on the Dark Side of Pattaya for the last 4 years. I love it. This area is quiet, near golf courses, gated community, close ( 20 minutes) from the beach or malls. Im not a drinker so I dont visit the bars, I do drive and own a car.. Im from Florida so it feels the same

Hey Peter, how are you dealing with giving up your universal healthcare in England? Are you paying for private healthcare in Thailand now? How expensive is it? Sorry if you've answered this in the past.

There is a big difference between visiting Thailand and LIVING in Thailand. I'm a US/UK expat living in Mexico (Perm. Resident). I have visited Thailand before and loved it. I have spent the last 2.5 months in Hua Hin checking things out...and tbh...Hua Hin isnt for me. I simply dont enjoy the vibe. Heading back to BKK on friday, then off to Tokyo on the 26th, then México on 3 Feb. Maybe check out another part of Thailand later on.

I lived in Chiang Mai for over two years. Thai language is difficult to learn at an older age as you mentioned, so I only had enough knowledge to order food, gas, etc., but never at a conversational level. So my communication was usually reserved for other farangs. There were three reasons I decided to move back to the US. One was the road death per 100,000 being one of the highest in the world, and certainly having my share of close calls. The second was the cost of health insurance, which as one ages gets more expensive, combined with the fact if I had a heart attack, probably few Thai people would notice or even care to help, and with the limited emergency system I'd probably die before I could get true medical treatment. Third was that besides cost of living, virtually everything I did in Thailand I could do in the US, and even be able to work if I wanted to (which I do just to stay busy and social). Really the primary reason to live in Thailand is cost of living, and for a lot of expats that have little or no success with women in their own country, the opportunity to take women to bed, dates, on a vacation, etc., although everyone involved really knows it is more about money. There are a few "real" love stories, but you marry the family in Thailand, and that can be difficult. I generally classified expats as those that felt their life was somewhat of a failure and being able to mingle with cute younger girls bolstered their confidence. There were those that at 10am you saw at the local little bar, arm around mama-san, and they pretty much stayed there all day, feeling like the local bar king. Then there were the ones that just wanted to put notches on their gun for every girl they had, and finally those who felt that the cost of living justified being there since they really couldn't afford their own country on what income they had. Now I've heard many people say negative things about even going around and nodding or saying hello to people, and I have virtually never found that to be an issue in the US, unless you stray into unseasonable areas. Anyways, I agree with you on many sides, but a person's lifestyle (such as eating better, exercising, etc.) can be done in any country. I would be interested in the cost of your health insurance, plus I have heard that from 70 and above it becomes quite expensive and difficult to obtain. Thanks for your posts, usually pretty enjoyable!

I'd like to know more about the health insurance situation too. Maybe you could do an interview with a broker?

long time follower of you work Peter. Congratulations on changing your situation and lifestyle, it really shows . I think you look younger, fitter and more content 🙏🏼👏. I’ve been in TH over 12 years, what helped my Thai most was studying . You might consider dropping by Rak Thai Language School at the Phloen Chit Bts. I watched student there of all ages make really good progress and the teachers are lovey. For perspective I’m about to turn 59. You might also enjoy ‘ built to move ‘ by Kelly and Juliette Starrett, about how to stay strong and healthy as we age . Very concise and simple in its suggestions . Warm Regards, Christopher
