It is implied that because "Ansem, Seeker of Darkness" time traveled to Young Xehanort and existed as a Heart for many Years, That Ansem SOD had been watching Riku for many years. Since Kairi showed up, at least.. And if Riku is also of the Bloodline of Ephermer, like Xehanort, then it is Family fighting each other.

Point of Note: It is revealed in 0.2 Fragmentary Passage , that Light that Sora calls Kingdom Hearts in KH 1, is coming from Riku. Sora's voice reaches across the Barrier of the Realm of Darkness to the Light inside Riku and destroyed the Darkness "Ansem" was using to hold Riku's Body.
