Have to see things through to the end for sure, right now my point is even more true about SV cases can be had for less than I had even known. I see sales at 470-480 for cases. That’s 80$ a box. This is chilling and fusion all over again. 🙏🏼

Easiest way to keep it sealed is to watch people opening them on youtube and seeing how low the value of the pulls are , people often turn a $100+ booster box into a $15-50 booster box by opening it. Ignore the big people and people who only made a video bc they recorded a lucky box , most boxes you open will absolutely not have the best chase card in the set.

Buying sealed at or less than $3/pack is almost zero risk for the long haul. And if it does lose all of its value than my kids will get to open all these worthless packs and that will be worth it. Pokémon makes up less than 1% of my investment funds but it’s one of the most fun!

I feel the exact same way about this. Going into this era of Pokémon I told myself to buy a case of each set and I need to stay at it. I know 1 wont move the needle much but its a start for sure. also when boexs dipped to $90 for Fusion Strike I bought 3 and not they are $130 in just 6 months due to them more out of print. Plays are everywhere just be patient everyone.

I think really at the end of the day, if you dont have early sets sitting around sealed, then you've already missed out on the huge gains in collecting pokemon. The issue with collecting stuff now trying to profit over time is that everyone is doing it, the demand is high, and thus, the product being made is also high. I think people will find over time that investing in this will not come close to outperforming a simple, regular investment in an index fund that follows the market. Buy sealed products and hold them because you enjoy it, not because you think you'll make it rich.

We’ve all missed out on the “ HUGE “ gains. I don’t ever think I mentioned there’d be huge gains. Even at 60% gain you’re still not making much a box but the point is to invest in a hobby you love and see what the outcome is with doing it with modern and in an era that many have deemed unworthy. Not everyone is doing it , many people in the comments are not doing it, my friends aren’t doing it and fellow KZbinrs aren’t doing it. I’m one of the crazy people who think we should be but I’ll be the Guinea pig that’s fine haha we also have to keep into account that in this day in age everyone is opening product at an alarming pace. Most people will not have the willpower or foresight even after what we’ve already seen to hold on to their product. You have to be able to let this stuff sit for quite a while and I agree that is pretty rough but if it works it seems like an obvious play. So we will see over time. 10/10 video tbh. Hella good info. Returns on sealed product can be insane, especially long term. Let's break it down: Assuming the average booster box was $120 for older sets, what kind of returns are we seeing, exactly? Team Up BB current price: $1788. That's a 14.9x return in just 4 years. Furious Fists BB current price: $4500. That's a 37.5x return in 9 years. Legendary Treasures BB current price: $4150. That's a 34.5x return in 10 years. Plasma Storm current BB price: $8200. That's a 68x return in 10 years. That's just a few of many examples. Find the sets you think will perform well and are affordable to you. Set it and forget it. Granted, there are plenty of low-performing sets, even a decade old, but the point is the gains are there if you use the information you have available to you to make sound investments.

Well you have to charge shipping and that might eat into margin, and fees depending on your platform. Most boxes start around 100$ figure 10$ to ship 13% in fees so until the box hits 130-140 that’s usually when folks get excited but I would wait for 100% personally. The boxes take up space and your money sits so you want it to be worth while. Also try to get tik tok shop coupons to buy sealed for below msrp. Hope this helps and thanks for watching! 😎🙏🏼

Keep the box sealed and unopened, it’s not worth opening it if it’s just one box you have it’s best you enjoy the product as many decided not to pay the premium those Japanese boxes will do well over time IMO also if you wanted to open down the road it will be way more fun when no one has it ! 😎🙏🏼

It will be a great deal relative to next years prices. I don’t think you did horribly, everyone’s going to judge and say there’s no room for appreciation but there’s always room. People are opening product far more than they used to. For entertainment, for singles, and just for the heck of it. Pokémon is far more popular now than it was back then. You’ll do ok in the long run. Just don’t expect things to be 100% gain in one year, but it can happen. 😎🙏🏼

What are your thoughts on older etbs like fates collide or breakpoint. I agree with you that they don’t pack as much of a punch as booster boxes, i was thinking of offloading those types of etbs that have been stagnant, what are your thoughts on etbs before the tag team era, looks nice but 200 dollars also looks nice as well

Reprints in the end dont matter. but it will take a little extra time for your sealed product to mature and go up in price. As long as you are ok with waiting a little bit longer there is no problem with restocks / reprints.

I feel like S&V will appreciate very well. These sets are still a great product. I don’t understand why the negativity towards the new block is so much. I’m going to continue to buy a booster case, open 1 or 2 boxes and keep the rest sealed. The only master set I’ve completed since evolutions is crown zenith. I simply just can’t justify the cost and the amount of bulk I get left with it stops being fun.

It crushes the S&P index but is also much more riskier..... if you're in the market less than 5 years Feebay and shipping will eat you alive. There is always a Tag Team / Evolving Skies set ..... buy every set on release and double down when the reprint comes out, no one knows which sets will pay off long. Right now its simple AF...... Yea this was going to be similar to my comment .. the issue is for all those “big” gains to be actualized you end up having to wait years AND have to sell them. The talk these big percent gains.. you buy a booster box now for 90$.. maybe it’s 150$ in 2 years.. let’s say you even charge shipping .. you got fees, packing materials, taxes.. so maybe you get $110-115 in your account.. so you actually made maybe 20-25 on a product after 2 years.. you’d need tons of cases to even make enough to buy another case with just profits, you’d need to sell 20 booster boxes all for 150.. and then you’re just stuck in the same circle of holding for another 2 years.. When you coulda just kept compounding that money in an account.. and maybe you get slightly less returns but it’s all still your money.. you need it back you press a button and you have it.. I think this stuff is fun as a side thing if you like the cards.. very few people can make this an actual career or retirement investment

If it was at 150 in 2 years I would still be happy because it would again prove there was growth to be had, and you’re also forgetting I have the option to sell these things locally too. 150$ cash is a lot better than 150$ on eBay and I fully understand that. But hey maybe I made a mistake again these are things I will address down the line so you don’t have to! I can afford to lose the money and I can afford to invest it this way. I still have savings with compounding interest too and the reality is, these rates might not last forever. I’m doing what I feel is right in my gut. Also I wouldn’t make it a career or retirement, but it’s a fun thing to put my money into and I enjoy it so well just see how things go ? Stay with us and we can report on this a year from now ! 😎🙏🏼

@@orionsires I sell locally with no problem and have had no issues realizing 50 to 100% gains in the last 2 years. I would not worry about Maximus as it's not as hard as he thinks to sell stuff.

@@tallcatshortdog well maybe right? It’s the amount that potentially needs to be sold at the amount you want to realize the gains. You’re also assuming that all these holders have local sales options or even a strong seller profile on sites like eBay or tcg. If you focus on just sealed product that appreciates over long time, you aren’t accumulating sales of those products while you wait for them to appreciate. Obviously patience is key, but the other point is if you have 50 booster boxes you’re trying to sell of something that has appreciated you ultimately compete against yourself and manipulate the market a bit. It has been a race to the bottom a lot.. so if going price is 150 and selling moderately, someones gonna do the 149, and 148, etc etc. which might then force you to slow or stop your sales until the supply diminishes again to allow for the demand to push the price up. I’m not saying there is no money to be made.. I’m saying the amounts seem skewed, with a higher risk than implied and especially considering the scale at which you need to buy and sell at to really realize significant return to either be able to buy more product, or to put away for “retirement”. At let’s say 25$ average profit per booster box (after all legit fees, taxes, etc). You would need to sell almost 7 (42 booster boxes) cases to realize ~$1000+ profit. While also having $3500-4500 tied up in the cases original cost (assuming you can get cases at 500-600$), while also still having to list, sell, ship, etc all that inventory. If you put 3500$ into an investment portfolio, a CD, etc., with an average 5% return rate (which right now TD bank has 5.5% on CDs), you make about 350-400 in 2 years.. but if you (instead of saving to buy another booster box case), also put in as little as the profit amount (25$) a month, over 2 years you’d, make $1000 in that account. You don’t have to sell it, you can add more or less, you can pull from it, etc.. If you don’t have the money to purchase large quantities to “gamble” on the market, “most” people are better off investing traditionally and contributing what they can to that.

I’m curious if being knowledgeable about the current competitive scene could net you short term gains on booster case/box openings or if holding onto sealed products is always the way to go. The way I see it there are two markets in the ptcg: competitive and collector. I think holding onto sealed product sits you right in the middle of these two markets.

I think 151 is going to be great but the fact that it’s only etb’s and UPC’s and everything other than BB’s really gets on my nerves. I don’t think the set will be enough to cause a boom. Nothing will be enough to cause a boom like the covid boom until we have a similar situation again. But either way I will continue collecting Pokémon. I can fully relate to the “inner adult” feeling where you know there’s traditional investments and ways you can save and gain more for your hard earned money. And then I look at 70% of my sealed products and see great growth that passes any of my other investments. I wish I was better at trading stocks but it turns out I was better suited as a collector and to make it sustainable I personally feel I don’t have much choice other than buying a large quantity and if it becomes a heavy bag that’s ok because I love it still. I take pride in growing my stack of Pokémon haha. Regret is definitely something I think all collectors deal with. I constantly wish I could go back to my childhood and purchase sealed cases. Even if I could just go back to highschool and “convince” my “cool” teenage self to think outside the box and purchase a case or two of skyridge haha. So many what ifs and shoulda couldas. All that matters is we’re still here and we’re able to collect and invest in the now! Dig the content!

From my perspective, I think there are a lot of people like me getting back into the cards with the release of 151. I have my old childhood collection of Base Sets 1 and 2, Jungle, Fossil, Team Rocket....and many of us got out of it and never knew the hundreds of new Pokemon that came out. So when the 151 OG pokemon that I remember came out as a new set, lots of us I think are wanting to get them. So it could be good or bad...lots of us might be buying up these new SV cards coming back from not collecting for 20 years. Could mean lots of people sitting on stock.

So i am in finance and an actual market theory some very succesfull traders use is doing the exact opposite of what the crowd is doing. The theory goes if the average person knows about the play then its already oversold.(as the average person is dumb when it comes to investing, its harsh but its true) Interesting how you apply that to pokemon. Go against the crowd. If the masses are doing something its already milked. Thank you Skyler!! I’ve been doing more research and I think I’ll do nicely. Everyone does seem to know that these boxes are useless to buy and that’s always a great indicator for me. I was in finance before opening the bar. So I have a background in business/finance. It’s just another market I feel more comfortable buying in. I also really enjoy the tangible assets versus the stocks in my fairy dust portfolio lol I know traditional is a big things right now as people are eating up these rates but nothing is set for long. I have seen everything change a few times in my life to feel confident buying into more product than I need. I’m going to probably add to my position as well. @@orionsires absolutly i actually tell my clients if you like something, collectibles, antiques, precious medals go for it. You have to enjoy your money. I personally only recommend 5% to 10% of net worth just because empty cases is dead money and its not utalizing the tvm and benefits of compounding. That being said every single person is different and this is my personal opinion. Every single person needs to do whats best in their certain situation and should not take any advice from anyone on the internet (myself included this is my opinion not financial advice) but the fact you have other investments and own your home and are even opening a 529 for your daughter puts you ahead of probably 90% of the population and 99% of the average person in this hobby. Dont listen to anyone and go with your gut and do whats best for you and your family.

eBay is my secret sauce lol there’s always sellers who do sell for the low- the strategy they use is what I wish I could do which is buying several cases of product and then unloading everything just to keep a case for free or half price. That’s how you want to ideally collect sealed. It’s doable if you have disposable income. But it’s tough and one must be able to spend what they can stand to be without for potentially months. I think I paid around that same price though for my case to be honest after taxes !! 😎🙏🏼

@orionsires That's awesome. I wanted to start picking up a booster box of every new set starting with Scarlet Violet. My goals have been picking up 1 Pokemon Center etb every set but its a hard habbit to kick because even though booster boxes are more liquid, the pokemon center etbs come with promos now and the games changed. They now sell out quick and typically not stay in stock again. So im uncertain which direction I wanna go right now. Sticking with the etb plan for now and booster boxes of banger sets like Brilliant Stars and Lost Origin.

Are you considering the risk and the option, that within 2-5-10-20 years nobody will actually willing to pay any extra for these sets because there is thousands of investor to the sealed products? Which is absolutely in opposite what was happening during 90s and early 2000s, when 0,001% of buyers would keep sealed products of Pokémon. Which boosted the scarcity of them to the moon and also with combination of "cheap" money in past couple of years the success investment cocktail has been completed. But please consider there is a ton a people which are doing what you are, which will leads to the massive supply of sealed product from this era in future. I am fan of pop culture products and Pokemon as a hobby but I guess only those product which are not in investment hype right now have the potential to grow in prices (if so) as CCG from 90s 00s did in past years. Hey there Milos! FANTASTIC comment! You went and explained why you disagree or potentially disagree and I have no issue with that. I see how much effort you put into making your point and I appreciate it. The goal of this channel is to start discussions and make conversations about what will happen to these sets down the road. It’s true in 20 years potentially no one will care about these sets. Everyone is doing this, BUT then again not everyone is doing it Milos. There are a surprisingly large number of people who feel if it can be done once it won’t happen again, but that’s exactly why I’m investing in sealed product because I believe in a matter of months or years after the sets have gone out of print you will have a harder time sourcing them. More than ever we have a hobby where people are streaming, ripping packs and product and selling it fast. We’ve never had this kind of industry combine with the hobby til now. It’s at an all time high in popularity and 151 is reigniting that spark in my opinion. I understand the risks and know these products may not do so well but I’m willing to test my theories and make that risk because even stuff that was printed to oblivion back in 2016 has exploded in value over 7 years. Now 7 years is no picnic but boxes that were everywhere for 70-80$ you couldn’t get people to buy them and now sell regularly for 700$ and soon more. More collectors than ever as well. So I still believe in sealed product ! 😎🙏🏼

@@orionsires Thanks man, I am glad, that you understand my point of view and I didn't meant to be rude or negative about investing in sealed Pokemon products. I fully agree that in short term, the investing/speculation makes sense even to me. If there is hype, that means to me, that there are collectors/investors which will be willing to pay premium for booster boxes, which went out of print. This kind of speculation makes sense to me. The first major video from Logan Paul about Pokemon is from Oct. 2020, just think about Pokemon sets in 2016 and how much less people where in to this hobby even in 2016. From my experiences when the hype is strong, that is the most amazing opportunity to sell with premium. Just think about that. For me it is like in stocks market, buy dip sell high...in collectibles buy when nobody cares, sell when there is hype. I really hope all your plans will come true and which you all the best. I really like you passion and that amazing Pokemon collection behind you! And btw I can't wait the 151 series, which I have to have since i am 90s kiddo. :)

why such a big investment on scarlet and violet base? the biggest chase card is 30 bucks and its a waifu that will soon regress back to the norm. in this market, cash is king. leave it in a high yield account (5%) until a good set come out (the scarlet violet eeveelution equivalent set, etc) then go all in on that. the reason is because if you buy into the wrong set, you wont be able to flip it even for small gains (like sword and shield sets) to free up capital. if you have infinite money, then sure, but for an average investor, i'm not sure why u would recommend scarlet and violet base.

Ok your opinion is 100% one that many will relate more with for a safer route but I myself am a risk taker and believe that these sets will yield me far more than 5% a year. Now if I’m wrong you can call me an idiot and give me crap but if I’m right I’m 6months to a year we will see base set price move before we see anything else move. Base set was the first to change from the yellow borders, making it memorable, it has a lot of great alternate art style cards and trainer art (the waifu craze) I think Miriam is super under valued and I believe the koraidon and miraidon cards down the road will be far more expensive as stated. I’m a believer of this set because I love the set myself so it’s a no brainer for me. Even if the set doesn’t move at all, I’d still love having it. We will report back on this down the road and either I’ll be an idiot or maybe just maybe there’s a historical pattern. Think about it, if I can make a return on SV base, I’ll be able to make a return on any set in the SV block and can apply this to every era. Anyways, thank you for the comment and the interest in my video. I think sometimes it’s the obvious plays people don’t see. If it’s a super hype set, it won’t be 100$ a box long enough for you to accumulate. Evolving skies is a great example, sometimes you’ve got to invest in the “losers” of the era too because the winners move too fast you can’t even accumulate more. Well to be exact there’s a 2% annual inflation rate the fed is going for, my Goldman Sachs basic savings online account is 4.4% so I earn 2.4% more than inflation. The average bank account can’t beat inflation though, so you’d be 95% right on that point. Cards are a great way to diversify and have some tangible assets that can beat inflation. In my opinion you should never Invest more than 5 or 10% of your overall portfolio in pokemon cards. Yes you can get great returns from pokemon cards that can beat index funds but you're also concurring maximum risk as you're basically risking everything on the fact that the company pokemon and the pokemon following will remain stable and growing. It probably will continue to be stable and growing but when you invest in an index fund you're basically investing in the economy of America which is basically the economy of the world which is quite different than investing in one single company's product. At the moment I'm trying to diversify my portfolio and include at least 1 to 2 percent in sealed pokemon.

That’s a very sound opinion and I agree you shouldn’t go all in because it’s maximum risk but once you do and you see those returns in sealed product specifically it’s very validating. Unlike the stock market that can tank easily, even in tough times Pokémon has thrived and so I believe it’s built its reputation up for being a resilient company that now has a huge financial backing of the ever growing collector base. I truly haven’t seen anything like sealed investing returns that stable ever in the stock market. In my story I actually have done much better in Pokémon than my stock portfolio. It’s shocking but the truth. Either way I wouldn’t encourage anyone to do the same things as me but I am very confident the franchise will continue tog grow and I’m sure it will have its hiccups too but that’s all they’ll be , hiccups in the grand scheme. I keep waiting for a bubble to burst and it keeps trending higher. I’ll admit I’m wrong in the future if it tanks though. We’ll see 😎🙏🏼

@@kb6530 the physical cards I was going to collect are ridiculous prices now, and I missed my chance to get play sets and now because they are overproduced, the quality cut is bad, and every single card is being nicked and dimed out of, it’s too expensive to collect max rarity, I can only have one of each in my deck. Lockdowns and Logan Paul and Joe Biden ruined my hobby.

@@orionsires it’s turned it into a quick flip where most cards are inflated right out the gate, not as much organic over-time value after rotation, as it used to be
