From everything they’ve said, especially Swift over the years, it was a toxic and emotionally abusive relationship That’s what it really boils down to, he messed with her mind and heart and wrecked her self esteem. There was also a significant power imbalance with her being barely considered a legal adult at 19 and him at 32 with a lot more influence and life experience than she had. You can see a lot of double speak in his public comments about her at the time, constantly saying she was an incredible singer/songwriter who would’ve been successful at any point in time but then also saying that she was very naive and childlike - a lot of both praise and like.. talking down to her Can really fuck someone up to be on the receiving end of that.
