As a software/firmware developer, a tester that is critical and reports as many issues as possible, is the best I like to work with. To have a good product, thorough testing is required. It means that updates will be less frequent, but overall quality will be better. And it will be beneficial both to the company and shareholders. So, great job, and try not to mind people, who know nothing, or are just not aware of your background.

I was using v12.2.1 which compared to V11 was significant and major improvement. Had more non-intervention and non-disengagement drives in my first week than I had in 3 years. But that version was too aggressive and took high risk on left hand turns. Now with V12.3, they fixed the aggressiveness, and i have not had any interventions or critical disengagements, but Navigation errors not present in v12.2.1 have now been introduced. When the car comes to a point where it has to chose between two lanes, it gets indecisive sometimes and makes errors in routing, just as you experienced in your drive. It also will not follow the mapped route randomly. So while they are moving at break-neck speed improving FSD, it will take some time before they massage all the bugs out of this version. I believe this will get us to the finish line as long as beta testers continue to identify and report the errors for Tesla to resolve.

A much appreciated balanced review and good commentary.Well done! Just note that FSD will not be production ready by only solving a handful of edge cases encountered by beta testers or even a larger user base. The reason is that edge cases by their very nature are infinite and thus will never be solved by picking off one at a time. In my view, the only way FSD will ever achieve L4/L5 autonomy is with AGI. Until then FSD may "appear" to be improving all the time whilst in actual fact, it would still be firmly stuck at 90%.

@10:30 it would have been nice to see how long it took FSD to choose the right lane - there was no danger. @25:30 When it gets orange light and stops over line, it looks like it started to accelerate to clear the intersection but there was risk of a traffic backup, so it changed its mind to stay put, which seems a reasonable choice. @30:15 please check if there is a car waiting behind you before forcing FSD to crawl forward (unless there was one, I didn't see one in the 3D display) - otherwise you take away opportunity to see how FSD behaves in the situation and how much more it needs to improve here. Keep up the good work. I'm enjoying your commentary.

Thanks. However, you were not the one driving so you cannot make those judgement calls for me based on how people drive here in LA. People will get into road rage if you let them wait for too long. Because it acts differently now. And yes, something a bit more aggressive would be nice and stopping a little closer to the car infront. As it is now, just doesn't cut it in the big cities. Been experiencing wonkiness as well on some turns even though it's done it before. Sometimes it just doesn't want to go.

This version is way better than the previous v11 version in many many aspects. However, there are things that are very concerning about it, my model Y for example tried to killed me yesterday when instead of trying to take the exit on the HOV lane it was sort of confused about when to take the exit @60mph and was driving straight to the division where they put the water tanks to prevent fatal accidents. That was a very scary situation that I never experienced with the previous version and had to take over really fast. It also no longer takes the entrance to my work parking lot for some reason.

I just tried out 12.3 in the Seattle area and it is indeed much smother especially on residential roads, The auto speed feature so far is working well as the car kept up with the surrounding traffic despite the posted speed. It's second by second driving is definaty better but it's navigation planning has regressed.. Once on the freeway the system ignored several requested lane changes to get into my exit lane so I canceled. Another time near home at a near stop it suddenly turned right instead of the left shown on the screen. I ended up on an extended sightseeing detour which was ok, I had the time to see what the new update would do, Navigation under 11.4.9 was better, hopefully they'll fix it in the next update.

Question , is Tesla map in real time traffics monitoring. Is there ever a case study where FSD follows the route . And in real time FSD see an accident , say few minutes prior . Is FSD smart with the camera monitor and takes a different route . As FSD sees the traffics or flashing emergency fire trucks or police reroute traffics ?
@TeslaJoy8 ай бұрын
Yes I have real time traffic data with my navigation. And no it doesn’t recognize emergency vehicles.
@tobenamed6108 ай бұрын
There have been examples of it using what it sees instead of its given route to make a decision. My favorite was a clip where its nav wanted to take a left turn, but there was none. It initially kept creeping closer to get a better look at it, but still couldn’t see it. Then a car came from its right, and while its navigation didn’t update, it suddenly changed course as if to realize “hey, a car came from there, i can go that way,” and since it couldn’t find the left turn it wanted, it did so. It does process what it sees and abandons navigation for sight alone when needed.
@suvrabanerjee20138 ай бұрын
Why do you think the second lane was not left turnings lane? Left most was left turn only. Second lane did not have any sign saying that it is straight only.
@TeslaJoy8 ай бұрын
It’s not what I think but that’s what the traffic rules are. Left turning lane is marked by a left arrow as shown in video. I’ve also lived there for 20 years and that intersection has always had 1 left turning lane. If you go back to that section you will see my lane had dash markings across the intersection guiding straight instead of going left and hence that lane was for going straight only.

Nope. I’ve lived in the area for 20 years and there’s always only 1 left turning lane indicated by the left arrow on the ground. Also the lane I was in had dashes going across the intersection leading the path straight.
@jaxkewl8 ай бұрын
There’s a discrepancy between the light arrow and the lack of arrow on the ground. This is a good edge case. If you drive it more and report it, Tesla can train on which indicator (ground arrow or light arrow) should be the deciding factor. It seems like fsd uses the light arrow indicator over the lack of a ground arrow as the deciding factor.

10:03 I think the car is correct and you are wrong. I think the lane you are in can go either straight or left. Notice when the lights turn green how the light above the left lane has a green left arrow only and the light over your lane (one lane to the right) has both a straight arrow and a left arrow. You can turn left from the two left lanes so the car did nothing wrong and this was not a "failure".
@TeslaJoy8 ай бұрын
No you are wrong. I’ve lived in the area for 20 years and there’s only one left turning lane. Also the dashed line on the ground leads that lane straight ahead, not going left. There’s only 1 turning lane which is indicated by a left arrow as shown in video.

@TeslaJoy8 ай бұрын

@@TeslaJoy Yes I tried doing that!
