I had two Pete’s with the 60 series Detroit and never had any major issues. I ran the overhead at 300,000 intervals, used ac delco oil and changed it at 13,000 intervals with Lucas oil treatment additive. I did add Lucas fuel treatment once a month. They were good engines and were reliable for me. I would run about 72 mph on average. 10 speed with 470 rears and tall rubber. Don’t drive anymore but had a good career OTR.

They wish they never sold their trucks with that motor. Called the 🦄 motor in the series 60 community. 😂😂 he just did a resume of his experience but every truck has a different history due to the way they was driven in the past
@sandasturner95299 ай бұрын
You're pretty much correct. Series 60 engines usually don't have many failure points. Usually it's the turbo, air compressor, oil leaks in weird places, failed engine computer, EGR valve and, after a million miles, the cylinder head will crack (usually around 1.2 to 1.5 million miles). Usually any problems with any engine will occur if it is used enough. I think caterpillar have about two or three engines that are more reliable than the series 60 (the 3406B, the 3408, and possibly the c15), the same goes for Cummins too (the big cam 4, the K-19 engine, the vt-903 engine, to name a few). One last piece of info. Almost all engines will last longer if driven conservatively, that is in addition to being tuned to a lower power and torque rating.
