I honestly like blind buying. I like the thrill of the hunt. It’s like picking up a book simply because of the cover.

If I had a place where i could trade fragrances with ease, i would blind buy. But i did get a thrill of possibly dopamine rush when i used to blind buy. So that is true, but careful with it, you might get addicted to it.

I have said it before and I will say it again: testify Mr. Smelly, testify! The world needs people like you whether in the fragrance community or not. Personally, the syrupy sweet type of reviewers do get annoying after some time, kind of like most modern men's fragrances.

It's evident how the fragrance community has undergone significant shifts in the past three years. I've found myself reflecting on my contribution within this dynamic space. Your insights touch on several key points, and it's clear that what we're seeing is just the tip of the iceberg. Esteemed reviewers have shone a light on the 'dark side' of fragrance collecting, highlighting how many may be making purchases for the wrong reasons. The prevalent content tends to revolve around top-ten lists. Viewers can form expectations about fragrance-wearing based on these videos, when in reality, it's an art form-a time capsule that captures moments in our lives, and an accessory that can provide a confidence boost. However, it's not a love potion, nor a magic elixir for commanding attention. I've also observed the ebb and flow of online friendships, where people come and go without much explanation. It's natural to wonder if something was amiss. In any case, 2020 stands out as a pinnacle year in the fragcomm for me, when camaraderie and kindness were prevalent. Now, given the current global situation, it's disheartening to see the community become somewhat divided.

I agree totally that it is more an art form and less a body care product. I personally don't use fragrance to attract attention or cover up odors, those who use it like that misunderstand it completely in my opinion. It is more like jewelry than deodorant

I started watching fragrance channels simply to educate myself on different notes of fragrances and I found it fascinating. Perfume is so personal that I don't care how popular a particular fragrance is, you can't force it on people. I've watched Redolessence for a number of years because I happen to like Steven and the way he presents fragrances, along with his friend Carlos Powell, R.I.P. , Brooklyn Fragrance Lover. I listen and learn. Jeremy I watch from time to time but he seems to lean toward a lot of really sweet smelling fragrances, which is not my thing. I take You Tubers channels as a learning experience, but that's where it ends. If any of the channels I watch suddenly decide to show the world their ''dark side" and drama starts, I knock them off my list.

Even tho some channels from UK like Fragmental or Aaron had surpass you in subs, i much rather listen to you talk about classic fragrances in a simple way, than watch their videos full of complicated stuff or loud annoying background music, or staged acting. You seem genuine in your thoughts and your speaking manner and that's why i keep watching you instead of others. As a sugestion, maybe you could try sniff new stuff on camera and give your reviews and thoughts on fragrances, like..Tauer house, other Amouages, Frederic Malle stuff. Just do some reviews from those houses. Cheers

There are certainly subjects that continue to be skirted and even obfuscated to a degree in the online fragrance world like regulatory involvement, material biotoxicity, mental health concerns, underhanded business practices and fantasy vs reality, but I still have faith in individual human beings. Uncomfortable topics are never easy to address even with professionals working in the field, and so much is kept hush hush in the luxury world. Banking on ignorance is one thing, but there is merit to understanding the importance of brand image on mass opinion. Fortunately, I think we've come to a point where viewers and enthusiasts are finally hungry enough for information that they are willing to actively seek it out and ultimately endure the pangs of disillusionment in order to experience greater clarity. And it usually starts with deliberate introspection. Although it may seem like we're all different superficially, our internal motives are really not that dissimilar. If fragrances and fragrance content are the "what", discovering the "why" can bring about tremendous change. 🌎

As we say it over here in The Netherlands; you've hit the nail on the head! I only watch a few reviewers and stopped watching the never ending top whatever ones. I really do believe a lot of money goes to who knows how many of them, to jumpstart sales on just average perfumes.
@guineesspirit7640
@guineesspirit7640 11 ай бұрын
Just the fact that the top 10 lists are only filled with the newest releases from the best known designers tells you enough. They are paid to show those ones and ignore very good fragrances from years ago that are still sold but don4t bring any revenue when talking about them.
@berenddevries74
@berenddevries74 11 ай бұрын
@@guineesspirit7640 Also, the fact that most of them review a new perfume about the same time all at ones and you never hear an indept or negative word about it, tells enough for me. After a while, or few years, all of a sudden you get a list about "bad releases", or what other name they give it, and look what's on this list... that same perfume they hyped up. Ash, from GentScents, ones made a video about houses having a black-list for reviewers not willing to promote new releases, or talking negative about it, and therefor not being part of the game anymore from that side. I don't know if the video is still on his channel, but I also stopped watching him a while ago.

Dan I agree tough skin is important. But I learned a long time ago, as an entrepreneur myself. If nobody is attacking you then you're doing something wrong! Real man take a stand. Weak men try to please everyone. I'll end with this Dan. The world is full of middle age men who are lost. So why not turn your channel into more of a service to them. Similar to Gentlemen Gazette. Sometimes, you have to allow steam to get out. You're so correct about people acting one way and being another. Friendships truly take time to build, and trust is at the foundation. Truly, how many fragrances does one person really need? I have come along way from looking at $32 for a bottle of weekend by Burberry and knowing that's way too much money for me to spend. Now I have purchased a bottle of (Bond no 9. $400 Scent of Peace for him) which is not that strong to me. I feel good telling my friend that I own a bottle of Bond no 9. I feel good about my expesive fragrances. I have always looked at things of quality not quantity. I think quality is far superior quantity. I absolutely love that I found my favorite fragrance (Red Tobacco). Now I am up to 23 fragrances and I have slowed way down on purchasing them on a monthly basis. I really enjoy looking at reviewers and seeking my next fragrance. Its a hobby that's costly, intriguing, alluring, and fulfilling. I bought every one of my fragrances blindly. I also have come to the conclusion that Niche is all I am purchasing. Live life, be happy. Great video.

Find a frag that fits you is the biggest thing. Popularity doesnt matter. Old school Azzaro Pour Homme isn't that popular anymore, yet its one of the few I've actually gotten a couple compliments on, both when I first wore it almost 20 years ago when it was already old and just started wearing it again recently. And from my experience, unless you're a 9 or 10 man, you never get compliments anyway.

I think the issue lies not only with the younger community's values clashing with the gen Xers and boomers (am a proud gen Xer, back when respect and altruism was still taught and valued!), but I feel the market is oversaturated, both from the fragcomm social media being full of fluff among more interesting, deeper content and discussion and also from the fragrance market itself, now a sea of uninteresting trendy fluff and overpriced to heck pseudo-niche fragrances. One look at the latest Bond no9 "holiday gift list" is a witness of that. 4000 clams for a pastiche bling bling bottle? Get out of here! Thank goodness for those like you who dare to talk the talk and create this kind of content.

Great video. I started watching fragrance videos a couple years ago with the intention of building a small collection. I wanted advice on what to buy and what I need for a decent collection that fits my needs. Listening to the advice given in the videos was a huge mistake. I didn't realize how much personal tastes can differ. Many of the blind buys I tried were horrible. TBH I don't mind the Top 10 lists but the "panty dropper" videos are ridiculous.

I can't stand the list type videos either, those that always start off with a dozen affiliate codes and links to certain websites. Basically just adverts for whatever they've been promoted to sell. Channels like Fragmental, Gents Scents, Aromatix etc - they all seem like decent fellas, but man they recycle the same content over and over judging purely on the thumbnails I see KZbin recommending me. I do like Joy Amin's stuff, but even he has descended into the stupid lists now. I really love Jon Legg's channel as well, really funny and genuine guy, just reviewing stuff out of passion. The fragcomm has become like most communities now, it's all for show and very superficial. Guys wanting to get laid. Fragrances don't do that, they might get you an approach, but you still need charisma, wit, charm, good looks etc to utilise that initial approach. Some scruffy guy with an obnoxious personality isn't gonna start getting laid every night purely because he's thrown on some Initio Side Effect. I wear stuff I like for me, if others like it then fair enough, if they don't then that's their problem. I'd guess women don't like any of my favourites as they're all very masculine, not modern at all, but they're MY favourites. If I wanna get laid, I can get laid wearing Lynx or nothing at all. The mythical catnip for women doesn't exist.

If you don't have enough ideas for future videos, I would be interested hearing your opinion about frag youtuber sellouts. And I mean especially those who take sponsorship/endorsement money, but "under the table". Meaning they in a sense get paid to lie, and they don't announce it in the video. (Even though it's supposed to be against YT's rules, if I'm correct..) What do you think, does it happen, and if, how much? I certainly have become to think it does. When I watch certain bigger frag channels (Those that pump out videos out almost daily), I just get this sense of dishonesty from their videos. How is their speech any different than of a sales person/sales rep, that works in a department stores fragrance section..? Instead of them giving an honest review, they just give "these and these" reasons to buy this product.

Enjoy the hobby if you have the means. Lets face it. This is a luxury hobby whether you are buying clones or niche, the cost will be high. Very easy to reach thousands of dollars worth of fragrances with designers and clones. Niche scents are ridiculous. You run your channel your way. Others run their channels to gaun subscribers. Who's wrong in their choice? I like that you stay true to Your beliefs and viewpoints. Do you cover content that answers a lot of my fragrance questions as to new releases and clones. No. Your channel is still entertaining to me, and I hope you continue to create unique content. I wish you more continued success sir. Class act for sure.

The best thing I ever did was to stop watching YT videos where influencers are making a killing for providing links to scents where they make money from me. I'm sorry but I found a way to buy scents without others making money off me. The same top ten lists just drove me nuts.

All I care about is the love and experience of the fragrance. The money on the side and the compliment magnet doesn’t excite me. Almost everyone has a hustle unfortunately. it’s like movie critics anymore. I wonder who’s actually smelled the fragrance and is willing to give an honest opinion

I am not part of the Fragrance community, I am part of the Mr Smelly assorted topics and spritz of fragrance talk community, I like your presonality and the ones of the guests you bring. I´ll give out this weird analogy, livestreams can be viewed the same way as amateur porn, Can you look at hotter chicks, can you look at better production, better whatever? yes you can, yet watching people do their best or worst AUTHENTICALLY is greater than anything else.

@@zedleed471 I have not smelled it. There was just so much sus with the hype that it raised too many red flags for me to even consider. But if you're offering I would like to smell it. You losing $200 is a lot of money to give away a free bottle of it, though. Haha. Cheers.
