Thousands of artifacts have been discovered from Syria, where the original Arabs came from in tribes. To the banks of the Nile, rings bracelets plates cups tools , all with the crescent moon engraved into them. Even a copper calf. So proving that Ishmael had nothing to do with the original Arabs, and the greatest god of Arabia was the moongod. Three cheers to professor Shady Nasser. *You are truly an academic* and that is how a true academic presents to his/her own students, grounding them on *methodology* [or 'scientific' approach] not creating blind believers. Your personal beliefs are *irrelevant* but methodology. And these rules applies to all religions, faiths and beliefs. Enjoyed every second of it, brings back memories of my wonderful teachers of my college. Edit: If anyone doing undergrad studies in humanities this is the way to approach your subject matter. Explain your terminology, set back and move out of your box, ask questions and counter questions, look for or bring primary sources to prove your claims. This a wonderful teacher / student conversation in academic level. Do not follow what your ancestors told you or your clan follows. Yes, apologists having PhDs do so, but not true academics as they guide you for your own conclusions wit myriad of counter questions forcing you to find answers. And this is no exception to Christians, Bible, Hindus, Buddhists or anyone else. Loved it!!!

His claim is that Dr. Nasser got the wrong one. Those marks could easily be flyspecks or drops from a pre-ballpoint pen. The meaning of an entire passage could be changed by an inadvertent speck. Why would a deity who is supposed to be the creator of the whole universe create a religion that is so un-universal (is that even a word?), a religion that would be so hard for people to understand and follow, unless you live in the 7th century Arabia. Here is what I mean: Why would the creator of the universe start a religion in a language that is spoken by less than 10% of the world’s population AND THEN make it a law that the book he dictated to an illiterate merchant turned warlord shall never ever be translated to any other language? Why would the creator of the universe make everybody face Mecca when praying. Doesn’t he know that the earth is round, and we will one day become a space-faring nation? Why would the creator of the universe make it an obligation for all Muslims to visit an obscure shire in the middle of the desert at least once in a lifetime? Couldn’t he foresee the logistical problems it will make? And the deaths that it will cause (Stampedes happen almost every other year. In 2015, 2144 people died due to a massive stampede)? Wouldn’t Allah know how hard it would be for Asians for example to grow a beard? (Yes, a beard is recommended in the Hadith)? Wouldn’t Allah know how impractical the Hijab would be in other climates? Why doesn’t Allah appreciate the diverse cultures of humankind? Why would Allah feel the need to apply a common denominator to all Muslims, and then choosing pre-Islamic customs as the common denominator? Questions needed to be answered or shouldn’t even have to be questioned if Allah was really a real God .

@@dulcettones5536 The Islamic belief about revelations and the Christian one are completely different! The Bible can be said to be the word of God because of the following reasons. Through it God speaks to human beings through his son, Jesus Christ.(Heb 1:1-2) All scripture was inspired by God .(2 Timothy 3:16) The human authors/writes were under the influence of the Holy Spirit. But faith must be based on something tangible or else it's just blind faith. Jesus for example performed many miracles in public before asking strangers to trust him. The apostles saw Jesus resurrected and their willingness to die or be tortured to death over that claim is what allowed Christianity to expand, otherwise it would have died with Jesus ( if faking the resurrection of a publicly executed leader was so easy, we would have countless successful examples yet we only have one if you want to consider Jesus case a fake).

I found particularly interesting Dr Nasser's answers on how literary asthetics have differed over time and the speech of god nuances (I assume he talks with Khalil Andani at Harvard who talks about the latter issue on Twitter). Shady has done very interesting work on the canonization process. His first book focused on how certain readings became shadhdh (non-canonical) and the second published last year explores what we can learn from Ibn Mujahid's book of the seven readings. Of course, certain bozo apologists try to paint him as some kind of polemicist in disguise, but I hope it's clear from his manner in this interview that his work is concerned with questions of academic interest. Other academics certainly admire and appreciate his work.

I'd already heard it and have seen these attack points all before. Here are a couple of responses on reddit to Farid's video: 1 of 2: "The general consensus on Aasim: trustworthy but bad retention. Weak on unique transmissions. There's a compilation of opinions on him here, and even on the page that Farid displayed [2:09] they're calling him 'unretentive' 'dismissed'."
@adamnasser29953 жыл бұрын
2 of 2: "On the al Tabari one Nasser admitted the mistake and corrected himself in his second book p. 107. Tabari did criticise the maaliki reading, but it was maalaka that he said was against consensus so that's the only bit on the screenshot page that Nasser got wrong. Sure, it's a mistake (van Putten guessed Nasser may have used the edition with the typo there), but the overall point stands whereby Nasser gives numerous examples of Tabari criticising variants that became canonical. Nasser did make some mistakes about Ibn Attiyah, and the biography entries for Qunbul (Farid himself found that there's at least one edition of the source with the same mistake, albeit not the edition Shady cited) and Ibn Dhakwan. He wrote two massive books, so while he should have done better, it's going to have some mistakes. Neither Farid nor his friends have been able to address the reports on other readers and transmitters, so it barely affects the point Nasser is making. Nasser was essentially correct that Asim was often weakened, as van Putten confirmed when this came up before, but Nasser explicitly says that he is only listing negative reports and explains why afterwards. It's part of his theory on why tawatur became so important, that this aspect of hadith methodology wasn't wholey viable for the readers and transmitters. Nasser even explicitly states right after the list that he has been selective and most reports for each reader say they were trustworthy, which you'd never guess from Farid's hatchet job. But Farid loves to straw man people. And as for the ahruf hadith stuff - another straw man as Dr Hishami pointed out after confirming with Nasser himself. Nasser carefully explains in the book that he is not seeking to establish its authenticity or otherwise, but rather he is interested in when it was starting to circulate widely. Van Putten also backed him against Farid on this (except for on the Ubayy version). Incidentally, Van Putten has also called out Farid in the past for a dishonest misreading Ibn al Jazari."

Dr. Shady Nasser, as usual being one of my favourite scholars. Thanks for putting interviews out such as these. This mechanic to approach the text from the perspective that it has to be true, thus we'll find the right explanation is not unique to Islam's interpretation of the Qu'ran. It also appears in other religions, such as Christianity f.e. I remember doing the exact same thing as a fundamental christian towards the Bible. Allah is a fabricated name of Arabic ideology called Islam, my understanding of , where Allah name came from and why it is also known as moon god in Egyptian history? We have to open pages of history of Asia and Europe about 3000 years ago, what was happening in India , Pakistan , Iran, Iraq , Israel , Egypt , Greece , Italy and many other known major countries back then. And need to understand who was super power and what was role of them in known planet earth then , according to know religions books and some deeper looking in history, we find some clues. I found out emperor Rama from India was a very powerful Emperor, who was running a Continuation of a very big empir as a family kingship , for thousands and thousands years and most of kings from this empire are Hindus’ Bhagwan, like shiva , Kirisna, Manu, Buddha, Rama, Brahama etc, it might be more then 2 thousands years since Brahama ( Abraham/ Ibrahim / el / Gilgamesh seems one man story) time , Rama had 2 sons from Seeta , Lov and Kush , When Lov and Kush grew up , both became warlord as emperor Rama him self and added many far distance countries to their empire. We have historical fact , Israel was conquered by Rama’s son Lav , and known as Al - Lah in Arabic language or older language of that area and he made many shiva temples in all those countries were he went , one of that temple is Muslims Kabba with shiva idol, and shiva idol is broken many time but it has place in silver frame, and that black stone is called higra e Aswad , and going around 7 time of this black stone ( Hijjra e aswad ) , is short name of Hujj . You got it ? Higra to Hujj, it just a yearly festival of older time pagans ( Indian Hindus) , but with time some one change it to fabricated Islamic ideology. And Indian kings Purans became with added local stories and pronounced as Quran with Q .
