It's always good when an author can give us some authentic, relatable representation. Having that personal connection is always going to make a story feel more intense and increase the emotional depth. This is what blind people are lacking. Any time we're included in a story it's always with the caviat that the blind character has something that nullifies their disability and puts them either on a level playing field with or above the other characters in terms of power rankings. The problem with, for example, trying to include a blind person in a fantasy novel as opposed to the real world is that magic exists. If there is magic why would they not be able to use it in some way that compensates for their lack of sight? Hmm, I'll have to give that some thought. Great review Epic. I'm glad you enjoyed this one because I know some people have big problems with it. I love your review style so much, have a good'un mate.

That’s great insight. This story was relatable because Tau’s rage is something that relatable with minority groups that have faced discrimination and bottle their anger up everyday to stay civilized. It’s kind of a dark fantasy in the unconscious mind. Compared to the privileged group in the book, the oppressed group are small and weak. Yay finds a way to rise above all of that despite his lack of talent. I get why people might not like it but for me, it was a crazy ride. Let me know if you ever read it. Thanks for watching.

I loved it and could relate to Tau's struggles as a smaller but determined young guy. I'm Asian although ny Dad was born in Kenya. I didn't necessarily relate to the African theme particularly but I loved having an African themed setting because it felt so fresh and interesting. I love the pseudonedevil European feel in Lord of The Rings but that's been repeated so much that it feels like the default.

I just binged both books in about 5 days and can't wait for the third to come out in May. These books just feel so authentic and rich with the setting that Evan Winter has created, and that combined with the tension, dialogue, and action had me deciding I could get by with less than 6 hours of sleep a night so I could get a few more chapters in before bed. I feel like there's a hole in my chest now that I am done with them, and dread the months between now and May when I can read the 3rd.

I absolutely love The Rage of Dragons. I could not put that book down. Probably in my top 10 for fantasy novels. Fires of Vengence was even better in my opinion. I can't wait to read the next one. I can see myself reading this series over and over.

Read it after seeing your shorts. This was such a fresh and amazing experience. I enjoyed every second I spent on this book. The world combined with the intriguing cast system really makes you feel for Tau. Though there are enough grey characters and good characters amongst the nobles, which gives you an understanding that not everyone is satisfied with the way things are. Tau had some really good character development, and it was a blast to be with him on this journey. My top characters would be: Tau Kellen - I would love to see more of him Hadith - overall, a very interesting character. Jabari - also a character I want to see develop through the stories to come. Kana - whom I find particularly intriguing and want to read so much about. Jayyed - the man with the plan.❤ I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for action filled fantasy with a new refreshing setting.

Ever since i started reading fantasy starting with Brandon Sanderson ive been reading soooo much. But a part of me thought "Hmmm... Surely their must be some African fantasy novels or black authors making them right? Let me check one out". Started with children of blood and bone by tomi adeyemi and really enjoyed her work, especially since alot of Nigerian culture was used in that one! Then i decided to give thie book a try cause... African culture and dragons!? Sign me up! It was slow for me at first, and i would stop reading at times and read little by little. At one point i thought about dropping it entirely because i wasnt too enganed... And then that ceartin moment happened and boom, I couldn't put this book down not even once! Sorry for the long rant, had to get this out there. Loved your review! You got a new subscriber from me!

There is so much about this book that I love and one of it is how I could relate culturally to it. For the first time, it occured to me fantasy stories were something that I enjoy looking in from the outside on a cultural level. This made me appreciate it on a more intimate level and brought in enough nuance that made it such a memorable read. And feel free to rant. I enjoyed reading it.

This was a very interesting and unique review. I really enjoyed it! I think you will also enjoy my novel, which has been compared to this book, and is set in ancient Nigeria called ‘In The Shadow of Ruin’. My novel weaves a tale of love, betrayal and retribution. It’s fast-paced and action-packed filled with Nigerian folklore, traditions and a dose of black magic. Book two is out later this year!

As a white guy growing up in ohio, I personally loved this series, A great showing of what happens when you write a book about a culture instead of some authors poor attempt to ensure they are just being inclusive. I would rather go back and read old fantasy books (in that case). Great video Btw
