I live by a Buddhist temple with that exact same wood, in my opinion it’s an attempt to make the temple appear older than it is. When I examined the wood up close it didn’t look 100% hand carved. The majority seemed almost like they used a 3D Printer, painted it brown and glued it to the wall/door panels. The Buddhist temple is in Chino Hills, CA.
