Honestly, 99.95% of gamers don't substantially monetize ever in their 10.000+ hours career. Because pro gaming is so difficult and the gaming content market so saturated, while many who do become successful will eventually get overshadowed. It's a lie that we tell ourselves so that gaming looks like something productive when in the overwhelming majority of the cases it is not.

I find 'moderate' gaming so much easier to achieve when you cut out online gaming and exclusively play single player games. I had to quit League of Legends years ago, and I found a major drive was FOMO and the drive to compete, maintaining my achievements. In solo experiences, the game is always there so there's nothing missed by abstaining for any amount of time. You can even pause it since there's nothing live. There's nobody to impress or compete with, just actually playing a game for its own sake.

Yeah I use to play offline game when I was teen since I didn't have internet, it was better than online, I feel more relaxing playing alone than online also less addictive.

Yeah, I think story based games are best, with a beginning and an end. Basically a movie / novel where you can interact. Online games (for me Eve Echoes, WoW) we’re my pain and cost me almost everything - still recovering from my mistakes. Also some open end games have similar issues, you can play 100h and still do more and more, which can suck you in and make it your life…

I'm 48 I grew up with gaming, but i balanced it with having 2 different metal bands, a wife, a job, etc. So now I don't have to worry about having a problem with gaming because I choose what I do, where I go, who I date, cleaning my home and doing many other things. So yes I control my gaming. I have a Series X, One X, 360, PS5, old PS3, Nintendo Wii U, gaming PC (i never game on) and a Steam Deck I rarely use. So i'm more of a console collector than an actual GAMER. It's my business what I find entertaining, some people like music, some like cars, some sit on their a$$ed for hours binge watching TV. None of which is healthy if you don't do it in moderation. I was also a sex addict many years ago, yes it was shameful, but it didn't "ruin" my life by any means. In this world of hate, violence, corruption, death and overall evil. You need things to enjoy to keep your mind fresh and clear. Video games can do that as with anything else. So no you don't have to STOP gaming. That's absurd. Just don't let it or anything disrupt your daily life and you'll be fine. Life's way to short to be serious all the time and worry about everything in the world. HAVE FUN. Don't let people stop you, just know when enough is enough. Thanks.

I'm quitting curious. I have quit multiplayer completely and only play story games. But I want to be a writer (fiction and non-fiction) and I think gaming is just getting in the way. I get home at 3pm, live alone, and I have all this time to write Monday to Friday (my weekends are for leisure). I try to justify it to myself by thinking I am experiencing worlds etc I can write with, but tbh, I'm sure I would get more from reading more books instead.

I deleted (again) all the games on the pc I have. I still own Pokémon (4/5 Generation III Gameboy Advance games) and 2 GBA SPs, with a trading cable. I also still have a PS3, even though I haven't played it in literal years. Playing chess (online & over the board) has become more of a focus for me, since being a disabled veteran, I don't HAVE TO work, yet I am able to. Finding something to fill the time seems to be the most difficult part of quitting video games, as I've redownloaded games multiple times after just a couple days. Thank you for all the videos you've shared with us on this topic!

Recommendation before you get too big to notice this. When editing, I would add just a little more to get the eyes to the same point with each cut. It takes a decent amount of energy (for a person who has a lot of time spent watching videos) to search for the eyes every cut.

Best thing to do is leave games until the very end of the day, however even this will affect one's sleep pattern. I think 1 hour per day is enough but they are designed to lure people in and entrap them. As gaming has developed, we have seen an influx of generations less socially and intellectually connected as they were say 40-100 years ago. Back in the 2000s people played games with friend and family, now that it has moved online, it serves as an alternative to physical interaction. Best advice is turn the damn thing off and create your own game with real life. Ironic thing is that you have game designers who openly express that they never play video games themselves...makes you wonder.

This whole anti-gaming crusade is real silly. There is a lot of gamers who play as a past time in moderation (for example for only a few hours per week). The only people who should avoid video games totally are people, who easily become addicted to gaming, and to whom gaming become a way of escaping problems posed by reality, and to whom virtual world became more interesting then the real world, and who start neglecting things important in life in favour of gaming. Same with social media, same with alcohol, same with...the list can go on and on.

Both ninja and Rogan were wrong in my opinion. Games actually have been proven (search it up yourself) that they help people analyse situations better and making better quick decision. The problem is when you don't have limits, you have to have a limit in order to do other things as well and I know for a fact that it's possible cause I've done it for years

I've pretty much moved on from the consoles(hardly played pc), but there's a new(ish) mobile game that has it's claws in my brain deep. Im a fan of the IP, and the game is good, I just struggle with moderation. Ive un-installed and reinstalled it many times. Stopped playing it for about a month but picked it up a few days ago when the new season started and went from zero to obsession in no time, even sacrificing sleep to lay with my phone in my hand all night. Thankfully the monetization hasn't gotten ahold of me, their system is fine tuned to extract TONS of money from people. The game is ostensibly FtP but ther are many cards that are part of the monetization so if you're not careful trying to get everything will cost a fortune. Side note: my son is 14 and is definitely deeply hooked into Roblox ... I guess it runs in the family. Thanks for the video 🙏🏽

Gaming is so easily accessible. It's on our phones. It's on our workstations. It's on our TVs. It's always right in front of us. I've put my drafting table/art station right next to my chair so it shares that ease of access. It's so simple to just turn my chair and work.

What a surprise that game streamers are disagreeing with Rogan. People who watch Streamers are some lonely loser gamers who want some sort of company while grinding their game non-stop. Gaming is like drug which can get you addicted without you even knowing and make you neglect everything in your life. Every hour spent playing game is hour deleted from your life without any real life advantage and most games these days also hurt your wallet very badly.

The truth is there are no moderation in video gaming. Games are psychologically designed to really hook you in. You think you can really outsmarted a bunch of game designers, artists, developers who spend all their time design their games to be really addictive? Even disciplined individual like Joe Rogan cannot do it. You can however find a way to monetize your habit like become a pro gamer, streamer, or game review..etc. But all required hard work and discipline to win such competition like in every domain.

I think something that people are overlooking in this conversation is that if you're a PC gamer, you learn a lot about computers at the same time. Driver issues, hardware issues, OS issues... You learn a lot of things normal PC users don't know. That opens up opportunities to get into IT with some certificates/school degree. When it comes to games themselves, if you play RPGs enough you gain an understanding of what makes a story/characters good and what is boring. Other games are more technical and you have to learn the meta information to be a better player. This leads you to understanding what games are made of. People who play games will likely be better at making them, as they've seen what works and doesn't work. I'm in my 30s, been in the military, played tons of video games, have a wife and kid and will soon be pursuing a degree related to computer science. My video game use saved me from a childhood full of neglect and an environment where most kids either moved away or got into partying/drug abuse. I don't think video games will ever not be part of my life because in a way, I'm only where I am now because of them.

There are also ways to play video games where you manage your time better (eg limit to 1 hr/day max and take breaks to do other stuff). Be interested in the technology, design, art - rather than viewing it as a dopamine binge compulsive grinding, competition, and silliness. Limit games to playing with a real life friend or family member (also 1 hr/day max). Play slower paced games and interactive movie/book style games. Pick something more cerebral or artistic rather than seeking "fun". Exercise while you play. Choose, donate to, and advocate games that respect players time and are designed to enable higher quality experiences instead of trying to maximize for engagement aka addiction. As with many other things, the details matter. What's your situation, how would you ideally like to spend your limited time on earth. For example, the guy in the video keeps referencing sports as some "superior" life goal. Why is it superior? I personally don't like sports. I don't have anything against them either. Just personal preference. Of course there are legitimate concerns related to video game addiction. Interferes with time management. Compulsively plays mindless grinding or repetitive esports games for endless hours. Some games the content is arguably unhealthy or toxic. Can become a distraction from other things you want to do with your life. For some people, like Joe Rogan, he was playing competitive FPS games and he felt he didn't have the self control to limit it to something reasonable (like 1 hr/day max and not every day).
