Here's ten things that video games can't give you. 1. Physical Intimacy/sex 2. Hugs, kisses, embrace 3. Real life accomplishment 4. Consolation of grief 5. Care when you are sick 6. Carry your bills when you're financially strapped. 7. Health benefits from physical fitness/runner's high 8. Genuine love 9. Shelter 10. Nuturing that only humans can give through reality. Ready to quit?

Definitely can be for a lot of people - but quitting at least for 90 days can help to identify what the cause really is. However, even now with all the improvement i've made in my life, I still can't game in moderation.

Adrian Bingham yep definitely can be. That's why it's most important to understand what YOUR OWN relationship to gaming is. :)

It can be, but addiction with anything is also caused be just how good something feels. You get addicted to the dopamine rush when playing games, watching porn, doing drugs, etc.

i haven't gaming for 2 months now, i'm 23 and i realized that it's useless to my life and brings only bad. I regret wasting my time on video games, i missed so much experience out of life. Now everytime i do something, i ask myself, will it be benefict to my life ? And i do that with anything i do but i just started this mindset and even if i ask myself that question, i'm not yet able to control myself from doing some useless things haha. Tbh, gaming make you forget about real life problems, you achieve things in games that won't help to your " real life ". Ok there's exception, like i learned my english from video games.. but anyway you understand the point haha. Well to make it short, i'm 23 still young but damn i regret playing video games, poor grades, real life experience that i missed. But it's the begining now, i feel like it's kinda late (even if it's not) but i feel like that because i know what i missed, the bad grades, etc. Just an exemple of regret, i used to play at an elite soccer level till my 15 years, but i didn't put the hardwork in (cause i just gamed on my sparetime) and now i see one of my friend that i was better than back in the days, he's playing in the soccer university team. But oh well i can't go back just keep moving forward from now on i guess. Damn we all have our little fights in life, that was a big part of mine i guess. ^^ Cya good luck :)

Hey Dany, thanks for sharing. "Is it useful" or "how does this serve my life" is a very good way to think about your behavior and the things you decide to invest your time and energy in.
@danypepin56767 жыл бұрын
Yes, i've come out with this idea when i realiZed that gaming is only doing bad to me and i had enough. I'm still trying to master this mindset towards my procrastination during school tho haha, with gaming it totally worked but yea i need to try to apply with real life situations now. I apply it toward my fitness goals (especially when you just wanna eat bad food ) haha. I'm less tempted to go out and get drunk as fuck now too, since alcohol can sometime have the same effect as gaming (in a sens) because you do stupid shit and this moment pass and you regret it when u wake up haha. But yea now i got two exams left for uni and summer is coming, this is where i'm gonna prove myself i can overcome this addiction for real. I think i'll be good i got so much motivation for fitness and i just wanna go out and explore this summer. Oh well i talk too much now. But yea, do things that will make your life grow in a postive way :)

On may 11 I will be talking to someone professionally about getting my life on track again. From there I will post my progress on the forum as and when I feel I've took that next step. The people I talked to on the forum are friendly, patient and funny. It's a really healthy and uplifting experience. I've also traded in my cell for one without internet access so when I'm outside I can take a book or my guitar, relax and see nature around me without any social media interrupting me. I thought of that idea myself and I'm proud I did because like in another video you and someone else said it's easy to get mad at yourself but not pat yourself on the back when you do something positive. Here's a prime example of why you shouldnt play vid games! I was like most hardcore gamers, had a ps4 and had to buy every new game that came out even if it just collected dust, I had ps plus with hundreds of free games, Anytime I wasnt at work I was on my ps4 or switch, I got seriously addicted to Rocket League! Was even 17th in the world in goals at one point! Gaming became a very bad addiction and stronghold in my life! Gaming addiction will 100% ruin relationships of all kinds! It will have you questioning youre beliefs and your morals but your so addicted that you make excuses for your addiction! Gaming will even kill you! My doc told me I could have a rare blood disorder that leads to stroke at the ripe age of 38! I got reffered to the cancer center and that doc had me get a bone marrow biopsy! After getting the biopsy I sold my ps4 and all the games! Felt a huge stress weight come off of my soul! Literally! I stopped gaming! Life got so silent when I stopped gaming cold turkey! At 1st the silence was so awkward! But not gaming forces you to do other more productive things with your life! I returned to the doc for my bone marrow test results and told the doc I quit gaming and now go on 7 speed walks every day and focus on my nutrition and diet! Ive lost 26 pounds in 2 months not gaming! My anxiety is and pain in my body is starting to go way down and improve! The biopsy results came back negative! Hurray I conquered a gaming addiction that was killing me slowly! I cant even play games anymore! I can literally! Feel the stress in my body! I was also at risk for lock jaw for the 2nd time in my life! Had lock jaw and 168 blood pressure in the ER at 27 and insomnia for 2 months! Nearly died at 27! God saved me at 27! When life got better after that I bought a ps4! Then gaming took over my life again! Not gaming will save your life! Get rid of your low heart feeling and anxiety and depression! Youll also start to feel more positive and happy in your life because you start to have the strength to accomplish healthier things in real life and relationships start to improve as well! And getting away from the toxic online enviroments is like heaven for your mind, body and soul! When you chronically game you end up sucking at Real Life! And you become very moody all the time and take it out on others! Do yourself a favor and get rid of all your games and systems and you will see how much your life improves for the better! And in real life the rewards are much better and bring real joy and sense of accomplishment!

2:30 [ Re. receiving WoW for Christmas from his mother ]: _"..she remembered at the last minute of the day, she pulled it out, and that's, like, basically my life all of a sudden was gone."_ Yikes! Tear-jerker moment! : '( ... Along with the recount of the night his Dad told him he would never make it in MotoX, and the projection that, if not for the changes, he would have never allowed himself the opportunity to have met his now wife! : '( . Powerful video! Congratulations to both of you and everybody who has broken the cycle, and continued best wishes to everybody still in the process of doing so! Not sure why I watched this, but I'm thankful! I have bought a lot of video games during my time.. around 150 or so ( Steam sales made it too easy ), but I never have time to play them. I've only ever started up a handful of them. I used to play online games a lot, but my life sort of drifted away from those organically. Although I can't remember the last time I played an online game, I am dealing with other struggles, which, after watching this video, makes me think I should probably try and seek a more socially inclusive and harmonious resolution than a defiant one. The defiance has some other deep roots too, but the initiative would need to begin with myself :-| . I possibly could also question the occasional untargeted manner in which I consume online content after seeing a video thumbnail with a title to that effect. Great video, great channel, and may you both continue to have success with all of your healthier passions!

20:00 resonated with me. I can stay away from gaming pretty well, but the moment I eat junk food I feel an intense urge to go binge YT or play games. It's like a two-way street. Because most of us used to eat junk food while gaming, our mind made a connection. If we eat junk food, we feel the urge to play. If we play we feel an urge to eat junk food. If I engage in just either habit, the other one automatically comes back as well. It's obviously hard to quit both gaming and eat healthy, but ultimately necessary.

I appreciate the concerns and comments. I am truly interested and it is affirming to realize that others realize this is wrong. You know what? Life is complicated and it is hard to see what is front of you when the situation turns into an opportunity to turn everything you say into “not their fault but yours”? You are gas-lighted before you know the meaning of what has happened. I did file for divorce for those reasons and I am a self entertaining person who likes to help others, play piano, and what I missed out on was a marriage and my children missed out on a dad especially in their early years from this habit. Missing out on a decent marriage is not the end of the world. It could have been worse. I am loved enough by others. He has missed out. I did and still do get licensed therapy because I can only change my world and outlook and am coached to help him out of this. I did confront him and encouraged him to find productive things that fulfill his life. I did it slowly with questions to make him think about where he was going and he responds well to this approach and I don’t take this behaviour. I will “disappear” until he realizes he is alone in the house and calls to see where i am. I ask about what are his dreams and hopes for the future? How much do you remember about... (something he missed earlier.). Why did that happen? After I gave him time to ponder these issues, I directly confronted him. And he gets it. I sent him to counseling but he is a smooth talking “hero” who can do no wrong. Well, would not publicly admit wrong. But when I filed for divorce for not listening to me and shifting blame for his actions, he did realize he had to change. My family stayed intact and they got to see that their father was man enough to own up and start making changes for them. But I keep my support system at the ready. He is trying to do the right thing and making any relationship takes work. Video games were barely around before, people had other addictions to Eli them hide from their life. Again, thanks for caring. I did not realize all these messages had come in, so I thought I would report back.

You Sir are doing such an important work. I believe that the gaming industry should start to recognise their responsibility. There are self protection measures when it comes to online gambling (i.e self blocking, caat based detection software ect.). However, there are no such measures or even a legislation for video games leaving behind a lot of poor souls who would have potential to express themselves and demonstrate their true potential. I was lucky enough that I still managed to finish University and develop a professional career despite the fact I wasted 15k hours of my life with video games (especially Ark Survival:Evolved) But where could I be if I never touched a keyboard & mouse. Thank you for your videos it truly changed my life to the positive.

Hey guys! fellow former hardcore gamer here! I've struggled with this bad habit for a long time until I could get myself out of it. playing games for hours upon end when I really just wanted to spend that time doing something meaningful for my life, growing and experience the " real world " A lot of times its more than just the game itself. but without knowing it myself, the way I got out. was reverse it all and reform the ways I was thinking and dealing with my problem. and it made a HUGE impact. sometimes you just don't realise what you are doing.. no one plans to be an addict or getting stuck in a bad habit. I still like gaming don't get me wrong, The key is to have the self-awareness and control to be in charge. and that's not always so easy especially if you're deeply invested over a longer period of time. If you can relate or know a friend that would don't hesitate to ask me any question and I will do my best to help you, I know it's doable, even if you don't really believe it. best regards

The issue is that when you’re gaming you don’t give yourself the time to reflect and remind yourself how dangerous it is, how it doesn’t have the return on investment to make it worthwhile. You get sucked in, start suffocating your mind and very soon you’re deep in, and it’s very hard to stop. At least that’s how it is for me.

I quit Gaming for 5 years straight...did it turn my life around? It did actually as I was able to travel to many different places, and I thought that I could do this forever and quit Gaming for good because there was so much to see in the outside world, but I was wrong because traveling overtime can get very expensive and it's not all cracked up to be sometimes because while traveling you will have a random stranger sleep on your shoulder as a kid is crying nonstop for 10 minutes and only one side of your headphone only works...my left ear enjoyed the music as my other ear enjoyed more background noise, and for some reason there was a guy with sunglasses at the airport watching my every move and it was scary...it really felt like I was being watched at all times. So I was back to square one again after some financial trouble, and decided to stay in one place in my life and take it easy...I want to travel again, but for now I want to slow down and live the single lifestyle for awhile after my ex cheated on me with a buff Black dude and what do you know? He was nicknamed Snake and even had it tattooed on his arm...crazy world we live in and it makes me want to play Metal Gear again for some reason. So I started living the minimal lifestyle...I took my basic regular Nintendo out of the closet and started playing my favorite games again and felt a sense of nostalgia as it took me back in time to the 90's. I really felt that in video games I can be free to do whatever I want and there is always a chance to start over...couldn't do that with real life hehehe.

Since you've asked me to comment, I'll share a few thoughts. Yes, health is the foundation of everything, and it is incredibly important to get people to realize this. You guys are absolutely right to want to help others focus on this as they are moving away from gaming addiction. It puts so much control back into your hands when you have established a healthy routine. On the personal side, I have had a similar life experience as Nicholas; I've actually dropped a bit more weight, 70 pounds, and have recently started building muscle. It's been quite incredible in terms of self-esteem and overall well-being. There's been many other positives as well. I've come to highly value the opinion of experts when it comes to nutrition and training. I'm not sure I would find any value in the material you would be putting out, because I've been researching this stuff by myself for a while now and got a really good grasp on it already. If I'm being perfectly honest, not knowing much about you guys, I'd be a bit worried that your advice/program may be inadequate, since there is so much confusion out there, and I have no idea if you guys have managed to sort through it all properly. Don't take this personally, it's just that I feel like it's a gigantic undertaking and a person with a successful business and other hobbies probably can't do a good enough job at it. I mean, sure, you can give good general recommendations, but I think it's better to give people excellent outside resources from people who are genuine experts in their respective domains. People who have dedicated their lives to it and been tested multiple times. Just my 2 cents. Great to see you guys have found what works for you.
@nicholasbayerle89087 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. I agree there is so many people out there trying to offer people their 2 cents on health and fitness. But at the end of the day its CHEAP its only worth 2 cents. Through dozens of trainings, 3 health companies, with endorsements from naturopathic doctors the list goes on. Not only that but we have been through the struggle personally! I believe learning on your own is extremely powerful and finding someone you can trust as well. Keep up the good work.

Hey Etienne, thanks for the comment and congrats on all of the progress you've made. To be clear, the reason we're exploring this with Nicholas is because that's what he does for his business (he is the expert), and you're right that I don't have time to master that side myself (other than for my own life). I plan to stay in my lane and focus only on gaming addiction stuff - where I can truly bring the expertise people need - but when it comes to other areas, we need outside experts. If we put something together for the community, will make sure to include resources and references for your concerns (even if you aren't the person who's going to be joining the program, it's still important for others). Hope you have a great day.

Yes. I can agree with so many points, especially on improving my health, for drastically improving my life over the sedentary chips and oreos while gaming lifestyle. I even got serious into bodybuilding and powerlifting and I've become stronger and in the best shape of my life. However... video games keep creeping back and they always halt my progress. Even when I do quit gaming, again, I just end up replacing that "entertainment time" with stuff like movies. I think we need a concrete plan to replace "gaming time" with. Overall, all the times I've been able to seriously halt all gaming, my life has always improved. The only coping mechanism I've personally found is to grow a hatred for how much gaming has held my life back. Yet somehow a friend will always ignore my request to not talk about gaming around me and then I'll relapse. I've been gaming seriously since I was 2 and I'm 29 now, and it's been the only addiction in my life I've been unable to conquer.

Hi Chris, thanks for commenting. Super important to have clear boundaries with your friends. It sounds like you're doing that, but what happens when a friend doesn't respect that? How do you respond? I will always live with the shame of farming for TLPD on WoW several years ago...farming TLPD for 2 weeks straight, I slept with the game up at my farming spot, my hand on the keyboard for some reason...I think to keep the game from booting me out for not moving? I can't remember why, but I "had" to do that. Literally on my mom's birthday, I begged her that I keep farming TLPD...I know it crushed her, and I was a freaking college age kid at the time. Thank God it spawned not 20 minutes later and I got the stupid, useless TLPD mount, but I can just imagine how it made my mom feel. And how I was willing to put that before her /one/ day... Ugh. ):

The games that really screw people up are online games. These games are the ones that fuck peoples lives up (World of Warcraft.) I never herd of someone getting addicted to Super Mario Bros 3. Or Super Castlevania IV. If you someone who can't handle it maybe you should quit all together. I am a Jr in college right now studying physics. In order to make it to the end of my degree I have to quit playing video games. I don't consider myself to be addicted, but I do like them. I have made it a personal goal in my life not to play any Online RPGs or Online multiplayer.

It's good that you're trying to help people overcome their videogame addiction, but at the same people shouldn't have to quit gaming just because they don't know how to manage their time. I play video games, but still live a healthy life. I go to the gym, go out with friends, interact with the "outside" world, and have no problem at the same time. IMO, it's not the video games, it's the people not managing their time and life.

I think a lot of people miss the mark in the comments here. Gaming addiction doesn't mean amount of hours you play it is about your mindset. You can play in "moderation" but still live for those gaming moments. I think this is the distinction. Gaming isn't inherently bad it's when you see other things as not enjoyable compared to gaming. I was a "moderation" gamer only playing during free time after work and workout and time with wife was done. The problem is though that my mindset was to just get to that gaming time and everything else is a hurdle. Gaming delivers to us so many needs and wants as humans that this is easy to fall into. I think if many of us "moderation" gamers are honest with ourselves we will realize we are living for these gaming moments rather than living life itself.
@GameQuitters6 жыл бұрын
I agree with a lot of what you said. Ultimately gaming addiction isn't defined by the hours you play, nor the mindset you have, but the different addiction criteria you meet. A good proposed list is here: gamequitters.com/proposed
@braintrust026 жыл бұрын

ok I'm probably going to be insulting to some of you but I think it an important thing to say. the guys in the video sound shallow and probably have a tendencing to addictions. I wouldn't be surprised if one of them is still severely unhappy. with adicction prone identities its difficult to stay happy and often it's not the addictive substance that's the problem but rather the person doing it excess. As you have probably guessed I am a avid gamer. but I'll tell you what, it been the best thing for me in the past 8 years. my little brother fell ill and became home bound and the only way he could keep in touch and play with his friends was video games. My closest friend and now business partner met through video games and now I would take a bullet for the man despite never meeting him in person. my last girlfriend met and bonded over video game. my non for profit is now using videogames to help homebound children build social skills and be a part of a community. I dont expect anyone else to have the incredible luck I did to be in this situation but a lot of this has been through me using a passion of mine to make some good in my life. I would hope all of you dont let your addiction control you and instead use it to do good. It just takes one step at a time.
@GameQuitters6 жыл бұрын
that's the difference between an addiction and a passion - an addiction is causing negative impact on your life. If gaming isn't having a negative impact (like it seems it's not in your life), game on.

Love the video.. but one thing here that I'm curious about.... Why was the weight loss aspect of his "gains" from quitting games front loaded into the conversation? Weight gain is not to be tied in direct correlation of being a gamer.... that's poor dieting and lack of physical activity.... You can be "overweight" without gaming easily.... Also, the bad hygiene part? Dude... just shower... that goes to all that fall into that category.... FYI: This has inspired me to make a video.....

Because the video was about sharing his story and weight loss was a big part of that.
