I really wish Aaliyah showcased her vocal abilities more like she did on this song. I feel like she would have done so more overtime though. I love this song so much. This alone shuts down the "Aaliyah couldn't sing" haters down. She clearly could do much more with her voice than she showed,
@TonyTurner4 жыл бұрын
Exactly. The soft voice was an artistic choice and Diane Warren picked up on that and wanted to challenge her. They both succeeded.
@mattm31234 жыл бұрын
@@TonyTurner Exactly. Like how Britney actually had a powerful and deep voice but she did that 'baby voice' as a stylistic choice to make her voice distinct. Aaliyah's style made her voice distinct too. People forget that this was the 90s and we had so many female singers that were riffing , running and belting such as Whitney , Mariah , Celine e.t.c. So I can understand Aaliyah trying to sound different.
@TonyTurner4 жыл бұрын
Yup. It set her apart from her peers and put her in her own lane.
@mattm31234 жыл бұрын
@Darrell Mills 1. Go and educate yourself on Britney . Watch videos of her singing when she was auditioning for a talent show and when she was on The Mickey Mouse Club House. Her natural voice is strong , deep and powerful. That 'baby' voice that you hear on her songs isn't the full range of her voice, It is done for commercial success and for her voice to be distinct. So it worked cause everyone knows when a Britney song is on. That is why I used Britney to explain how the same with Aaliyah. They both do not really show how powerful their voices are on their songs. 2. Why are you making this a Aaliyah Vs Britney thing? Both are great and you can like both , damn. 3, The same way you were quick to jump and say Britney can't sing without doing your research is the same way other people say Aaliyah couldn't sing without doing their research.

There is an article where Diane Warren went pretty in depth about how Aaliyah approached the song. People were sceptical of Aaliyah's ability to pull off the song but Warren was confident in Aaliyah's ability to do it justice. Warren also also said it's one of her favourite songs.
@TonyTurner4 жыл бұрын
And the fact she said that Aaliyah could go where the Whitneys went and Whitney herself loved Aaliyah's voice. I wonder if there's any demos of Aaliyah singing in that type of style.
@bajeboi4 жыл бұрын
@@TonyTurner Have you read this article ? Forgot the guys name but he said Aaliyah's vocal warm up was basically operatic. When you get the behind details about Aaliyah recording process you really get the sense she had a lot more to show vocally. Also all of The One I gave my heart to performances were consistent. So it shows that Aaliyah's voice was probably better suited to ballads. www.vibe.com/2016/08/one-in-a-million-album-aaliyah-week

Yes. I wish they release those tapes. And I wish Aaliyah experimented with more ballads but whose to say she didn't already have that in mind. I remember reading that she wanted to do a Gospel album. That would've been interesting to hear.

Aaliyah wasn't done yet man; she had only just begun. By the time of her untimely death, she showcased that she was capable of doing just about anything she lent her talent to. When legendary song writer Diane Warren wrote this song for Aaliyah, producers from both Monica and Brandy's camp reached out to Warren to have her wrote Brandy's "Have you ever?" and Monica's "Cross the Ocean" hit ballads. Aaliyah's "One I gave my heart to" made it possible so that listeners and fans could have those records. This record right here is indicative of how much Aaliyah's work inspired both ladies. Aaliyah doesn't always get the credit she rightfully deserved, but her work has always served as an inspiration to many, to this very day.
