It's not entirely true we don't have internet access in Brazil. Most people have but not exactly high speed. Many people have a PC or notebook, but not for gaming purposes. What people have here is passion on what they do. I grew up playing videogames usually at a friend's house. Only as an young adult making my own money I was able to have a PC with a dedicated GPU. It wasn't state of the art hardware but I had fun playing when I was back from college.

Yeah that part about internet access being rare is outright inaccurate. What we lack is hardware capable of running modern games at a competitive performance level at an affordable price. Kiko and Cogu were the most successful players but a lot of guys like fnx, btt, pava and Gaulês, who became the succesful streamer later, were among players that everyone knew. this is not to demean Fallen in any manner. just goes to show that there was a lot going before him. Classic Mibr even won an international tournment once (eswc I guess) but in Brazil it was known that despite how ignored most guys got by europeans, a guy like Cogu was among the best, if he wasn't the best awper in the world! a guy like Pava was among the best, if wasn't the best Usp shooter in the world aswell. we really guessed what it would be like if we could practice daily not with 50/60 ping, but could, as swedes, finns etc. play with a lan-ping at home. legend was that there was a player in that Mibr who seemed a little worse than everyone else who was none but the son of the owner of the team Mibr. he owned the biggest servers company around Rio in a time there weren't many local servers' companies. as he paid everyone's sallaries, he had to play hahahhaha out of curiosity, as other legend goes, the highest paid was Cogu, who earned around 6 minimum wages of Brazil. something like an average civil engineer would earn at the time. as it wasn't really profitable and was still seen as a kid's play, many amazing players left. Cogu even tried to play football professionally - in Qatar!!! hahahhaha it may be a reality shock for the youngsters out there to think merely less than 20 years ago, the very best player of his generation left the game to try playing soccer in a country that is probably among the worst of the world - maybe because he dreamt about it but also maybe he would earn more. fnx was already on the spotlight for his work with mainly GC and thanks God kept up the hard work to represent the CS from that era in CS:GO.

I am brazilian, and I vividly remember the moment where NIP won the Six Invitational in 2021, A classmate and friend of mine invited the entire class to hang out in his house at weekend. We had no plans to watch an esports tournament but since we were bored out of our minds and the finals were rolling on twitch, we decided to turn it on and watch it, when we put the match on the screen no one besides me had literally any interest on the tournament, but by the end everyone was hyped tf up and cheering for NIP to win, since we were from brazil. Truly a memory I will cherish for the rest of my life.

I love that every time someone talks about Brazil they have to show some favelas. Also the slums are less than 10% of the country's population not 90% as the media portrait and btw internet connection is quite widespread. Also, don't forget that we won a major in 2006 with mibr. They were way more important than SK/LG era.

Congratulations man, that was an script worthy of applause, it reminded me of a Brazilian channel that covers fighting games mostly, and also has incredibly well written scripts like this one, it's called O Punho do Dragão Esports (Fist of Dragon Esports), so once again thank you for your attention with the Brazilian scene and a big hug!

i saw this counterstrike thing born in brazil im 35, i used to play with Raphael “cogu” Camargo when i was (also he was) a teenager. a few year latter cogu became the first pro player in brazil that was signed with a pro team outside brazil with guess who? Fallen(for me it was only Gabriel) it was CRAZY i started playing CS when it was on beta version (beta 0.4), back on that time we need to go to korean internet cafés, with koren computers, nothing in portuguese. i was the only non korean playing in that place (there is a huge korean colony in brazil). good old times

As a brazillian myself i can confirm that, the biggest raw talents that has in pugs in any fps you see here, if you see most of the fragmovies of the main brazillian third party service (Gamers Club) is as flashy as FPLs clips, and we dominated any FPS we could actually progress and have acessibility to the common people (Crossfire, Combat Arms, CS, R6, Free Fire)
@kilelofworld2 жыл бұрын
They may own R6, and maybe CS at one point. But they don't and haven't ever dominated Halo, CoD, Valorant, or any other FPS out there. Saying they're good in 2 FPS games doesn't mean they dominate the genre.

Thanks for the video, is rare to Brazil be recognized by big english speaking channels. But again Brazil being roasted by mislead information and stereotypes like the “Access to internet and computers is rare” which is false, since about 70M Brazilians access internet through PC, that's 12 times Denmark population, also the "favelas is one of first things to come in mind when you think of Brazil" which is also a super stereotype since 8% of Brazil population lives in the favelas..

Outside of the eSports scene, I believe if wasn't for Mataleone, the man who created the ever popular cs_rio map, CS wouldn't be that popular in Brazil (and with that created a huge army of fans and hardcore players as well).

I think Gamers Club/GamesAcademy was worth mentioning, it is a special platform that was founded by FalleN, that at first was Games Academy. It was a space for classes for improving at CS. FalleN used to online teach and answer questions directly, and that is one of the reasons we call him Professor. Later on, Games Academy became Gamers Club and it hosts both free and pay-to-play tournaments, where our local scenario kept growing.

I'm a brazillian, so I obviously watched this with a lot of curiosity and a grain of salt. Overall, I think you give professional e-sports a bit too much credit in the popularization of games around here. We're very competitive and social people, which made cyber-cafes very popular around here back in the early 2000s, when good internet and PCs were not exactly affordable. With economy improving around 2010s, the access to internet and PCs followed the same trends and the huge repressed demand played a great part on gaming in general becoming more popular. The rise and success of brazillian e-sports pros happens in this context, but even though we do have amazing crowds everywhere this success is not exactly as known as how you paint it. I've had no idea we had all that success on Rainbow 6 to this day, for example. The idea of living as an e-sport professional is not a thing here to this day. So these cases are seen as huge outliers and no one would even try to become a pro without a very good money source to back them up. Considering the amount of players, I do think we'd have way more pro teams if this was not such a deal breaker.

I already said this in a BF4 forum, and the American trolls couldn't think of anything better to say other than offenses. People here are tryhards, one thing that I hated when playing CS is the amount of time I was called a cheater and got kicked off the match just for being too good against them. The difference between them and me is that I trained like for 1 or 2 hours before each game in an "aim_" map. That is what usually make us tryhards, we just train.

Ahh, Brazilian players. I used to play Crossfire back around 2008 to 2011. There was no Brazilian server and they absolutely invaded the NA server. High pings, toxic behaviour, chat spams, getting players better than them kicked out of games and a high amount of hackers. Good times.

FalleN also started a twitch project after he was benched from MIBR to talk to kids and teach them CS tactics, teamwork, exercises and metagame as long as they kept studying hard on their own and together(that was beginning of 2020/pandemics. Public schools stayed closed 6-12 months. And that granted him the nickname “The professor”

Dude, internet and PCs are very accessible in Brasil now a days. In early 2000s it wasn't and people would gather in bunches in a cyber cafe to play CS. BEST TIME EVER!
