Just found this video and I learned so much from it!! I will say I found the ending of LR when everyone travels to the new world to be a bit of a hint at their relationship. I might be grasping at straws, but between each couple, someone pulled the other up. Fang pulled Vanille up, while Serah and Lightning pulled up Snow and Hope. Snow even gave him a pat on the back to encourage him to go to Lightning. This totally could have been Snow pulling Hope up since Hope is close to Snow as well (like Sazh and Dahj) but they chose to have Lightning pull Hope up. The only other person she helped up was Serah, so um yeah

In FXIII Hope was my favourite one, the "Dark Horse" of the group and I loved his dinamics with Lightning. He became stronger and she gentler, and I could accept a platonic relationship. But after XIII-2??? No way, impossible. The love was in the air. They are the perfect example as star-crossed lovers. There's no other man who could understand and cherish Light like Hope, and Light's mark in Hope is so big that there's no way another woman could take her place. Even if it wasn't shown clearly (like Serah/Snow) Hope/Light is canon, 100%, in the no-existent epilogue and our hearts.

@@playerback7722 After XIII 3 it could be (after all, the plot was focused in making her get back her emotions). In the book of the new world all of them talk about what happened, Hope being the first and last to be interviewed (Hope and Light have yet to meet in the new world). The reporter met with Light in the train after the last talk with Hope, (she went, Light came) so Light was in her way to him. The last scene of the game she says what Hope said to her "we'll meet again" after she leave the train... Canon I tell you 🤣🤣

Excellent video ! 😀 What is amazing is that you only spoke the truth, there was no biased interpretation , only facts based on the games and the novels. I was so happy to see that you included DFFOO, because the Hopurai content we got in it is too good! I've never seen Light as depressed as in Chapter 3 part 2, she even asks Snow to lead them because she can't focus. Hope's feelings for Lightning are blatant through the FF13 trilogy , but Lightning's heart is harder to read, and DFFOO did a wonderful job showing how much she cares about Hope. 💕 Still dreaming of an adaptation of the LR novel!

At first I didn't believe in Hope x Lightning but I think it is probably the best way for it to work out for the two of them. Lightning and Hope have a lot of screen time together and their interaction and plot arc in FFXIII is one of my favorite parts of the XIII trilogy. LR scenes are telling as well. Say does anyone here remember an animation artist making some small animations of hope and lighting together? I wish I could remember his or her channel cause I've been trying to look back on that and just can't find it. He actually made about three, The first one was a short video of Lighting wearing the Miqo'te outfit and climbing over a wall(fyi most of the animations were taken during or after Lighting's return minus one I will mention) then once she stood on the wall edge hope said a comment that made her blush. It was an adorable blush animation the animator did for Lightning's character, a second is where Hope was protecting Lightning and fighting against a one-eye monster orc and there were some flashback moments of the two aswell. Where Hope joined Lightning on a small quest Then after the fight Hope asked Lightning to teach him sword combat and then she proceeded to kiss him when she knocked Hope off his feet. The last video is after the events of Lightning's return where Lightning asks Hope to pretend to be her lover, but there a bit of drama involved it cause Hope actually had feelings for LIghting and didn't want to be a "pretend" lover and be a real one. Yeah did the best to describe it what animation I am talking about, but I adore it because the animation was actually adorable to watch and especially the romantic parts between the two characters were honestly cute with the animation style it used. It was out there when I was in middle school and when Lightning Return made its appearance in the gaming market. Hopefully someone can recall what I am talking about and help me find it, been eager to look back on the animator and the video to see how it is today ;(.

This was such a well made and nicely edited video! I’ve always liked Hope and thought he was a great character regardless of what a lot of people seem to think of him so it’s really cool to see other people share the same sentiment. Moving on from that though, I always knew that Hope and Lightning had something going on since FFXIII-2, but man I did not realize just how much stuff there was about them until watching this video. Not just in Lightning Returns, but also in Opera Omnia too, which I was not expecting lol. Anyways I just have to ask, but could I possibly join that discord server of yours?

Anyway I wanted to know if you finished the DFFOO story because they added the Brunivelze story, if you haven't done it yet, I suggest you do it! I liked it, but I wanted it to end differently ... but that's okay ... I understand that obviously Square Enix didn't show anything else ... But in the end we know that there is something between them, so it is enough for me as an ending 🥰😢. I've already seen their feelings and I'm satisfied with them 🤩😍.

This relationship can't be declared to be canon because of the age difference and Hope being a minor in the original game. We can't expect Square Enix to bluntly say it because they will get into legal trouble. Personally, I feel like it's best to not to talk too much about the relationship between Hope and Lightning because it is a touchy subject. My opinion is mixed. I wouldn't mind Hope and Lightning to be together but problem is that Hope was introduced as a minor and hints about their relationship was given as early as then. I wouldn't say Lightning was the only one. Vanille and Hope were hinted for the same but Hope got more interested in Lightning than Vanille in the end. Mainly because Lightning expressed hatred towards Snow and Vanille had a neutral opinion about him. Hope fell in love with Lightning because he felt happy to have someone with whom he can share his feelings with. Feelings that matched with Lightning's. At least that was it in the beginning. Then he liked how he became stronger with her. It's awkward to talk about it. Maybe if Hope was introduced slightly older than it would have been different. Still, even if the relationship cannot be declared canon (even if Hope was an adult and he gets together with Lightning, the fact is the relationship was implied when he was a minor. That cannot be changed and so it can't be made canon), all of us know what is between them.

I doubt that Hope and Lightning would ever be officially canon, I agree that it's a touchy topic, however I found it important to clarify these characters' relationship and help people understand the events of the lore, since a lot of people misunderstood Hope and Light and I want to deny me or other people receiving unnecesary hate for no reason. If we look at it from another perspective, like Anakin and Padme from Star Wars, it's pretty much the same to me. I can't deny the hints, but I also can't deny that this is a complicated relationship, and I'd rather leave it to you guys to decide for what you want to believe. Regardless off romance, I think their relationship is very well written, so I won't stop talking about them. 🫶 Also, I have to disagree with Hope and Vanille getting hints, since Vanille has more hints with Fang and in the scene where Hope and Vanille talks on Gran Pulse, Vanille is just literally gay-panicking, and in LR, Lightning just trolled Hope with the "someone's got a crush" line XD. In my opinion Hope and Lightning never had any hints or chemistry in the first game. It just describes their friendship and bond, Hope falling in love with her isn't said out loud for understandable reasons, and Lightning feels 0% interest in Hope until like the end of LRFFXIII. Also, if Hope got hints either with Lightning or Vanille in FFXIII, wouldn't that be a little bit pedophilia? XD

But then FF13-2 happened and Hope is already at that legal age at this point due to Serah and Noel time traveling, taking Hope who is already an adult with them. But then in Lightning Returns, he chose to go back being a kid again but still has a brain of his adult self. Thats why he seems far more mature in Lightning Returns. The Hope in Lightning Returns is the same one from what we saw that aided Serah and Noel, just to clarify.

Hope is extremely reliable in terms of being the brains in the team. He was the main reason for the years of inventions in FF13-2. And the fact he practically joined Serah and Noel time traveling by freezing himself to the future, as well as entrusting his team to keep the plans in motion just shows how good Hope is. The fact he managed to show up in the future shows not only he is just pure genius, but he also is an amazing leader as he picked out the best teams that helps him reach that timeline.

Personnellement, (sans parler du fait que je trouve que de glamourifier un ship pédophile est problématique...) je pense qu'il est dommage de constamment voir de la romance en chaque relation forte, ça détruit presque la magie de l'histoire dans ce contexte :/ Hope et Lightning sont très attachés par leur vécu commun, et si elle semble lui porter tant d'attention c'est à mon avis car il reste après tout un enfant auquel elle a déjà un fort lien d'amitié. Si lui est si attaché à elle c'est aussi car elle est comme une figure maternelle pour lui, ce qui ne serait pas surprenant. De plus qu'il est normal qu'un enfant démuni se trouve à rester aux côtés d'une personne forte et pouvant le protéger... Tout ça ne doit pas non plus être nié, mais après tout je peux comprendre que certaines personnes trouve ce ship mignon car on y retrouve aussi une certaine fidélité et complicité attachante avec ces deux personnages, mais je trouve toujours ça dommage 🤷‍♀️ Je ne sais si quelqu'un aura pris la peine de lire l'avis d'un français, mais ça fait toujours plaisir 👋

With this video, I wanted to present Hope and Lightning's true relationship, meaning: An analysis based on the canon events of the FFXIII trilogy. SE did give us some suspicious info about them tho, and that also explains the meaning of the Hope x Lightning pairing and why people feel something for them. That's why I put the "canon?" text into the thumbnail, simply because we never really got to know. To sum up, it's complety fine if you don't like this ship and you view them as only friends, but please let other people ship something else too. As long as it's not illegal, don't come at them. this ship is still... odd. lightning is just mom 2.0 for hope to me. i still don't really see any chemistry between them. you can care strongly for someone in a total platonic way without romance, but i suppose i can understand why people ship them. some people are just confused that being nice and caring to someone equals undying love OR they're into kids. i'm sure things would be different if their genders were swapped 😅

Not really it wouldn't be any differences if it was reversed if it was it would be a similar situation to Noel and Yuel, or Serah and Snow 4 year age gap for them but it's implied they were around each other before she turned 18, plus Hope didn't fall for her that fast either and no it wasn't because she was kind how the hell we played for hours into this game and kindness and caring is our basis for undying love if that were the case Vanille would've been his crush; it was only during XIII-2 where he grew up that he fell for her he matured a lot, in the first game it was a one sided crush that only developed near the end most of the early to mid game he viewed her as a big sister. By the time LR released he was what 522 years old or more trapped inside his young form.
