I did this reply, so that most people won’t see it. It’s for you... I have looked at your webpage, and while it is simple; it is very attractive. I am so glad that you have some of your videos on, not just stills. I say this because you are one of those people that are much more attractive in motion than in static photos. Parts of your site properly describes you as active and very excited. The stills are not a clear picture of that major part where your personality lies. I read your biography, and suggests a huge history of study and hard work, the source of all personal growth. Yes, that stands as a sideways complement. As you know, I do worry for your safety. Averaging 30,000 yen each January on lucky bags, even when the return is high, is still a massive set of purchases at a time when you are struggling just to stay warm in winter. Please don’t do these things just for the sake of your vblogs... it might place you in financial jeopardy. And that would make me, and your parents worry. Continue to work hard and get a career going. You’re one of those people I hope for, much growth in your future.

KingsRight Dear KingsRight, I apologize in advance, but I follow Cathy because she causes me to worry, by the facts of her own words. She has already spoken about how difficult the heat bill is, on several occasions. For her, money is a constant problem, and she is not as protected as she may appear. Her vblog that gets attachments that get her extra money is ‘Ask Japanese’. She trades services for several commercial operations. She works on these on a rotating partnership basis. She also has part-time work at NHK (probably a major source of income at this point). But, the ‘Cathy Cat’ vblog is not a great source of income. This is illustrated by how she produces her vids. She is obviously using her laptop for her production facilities, without cameraman services in most cases. This she does for you with virtually zero compensation. Now I want to talk about her lucky bag vids. 80% of the products she gets in these bags (forgive the commentary) are fun and perhaps useful for her ‘Lolita’ hobby. But most of that, and much of the remainder, can’t be eaten, and can’t improve her life. In other words, lucky bags are fun but do NOT compensate her for her expenses, in terms of yen. These expenses are a ‘dead’ load on her finances. I realize that this reply serves as an outright recrimination, but I am 64-years old, and am too old to allow youthful exuberance from you and others to take on something other than reality. Your fandom, is her source of bread and butter, and she needs all the fans she can get. I am not a fan, and she knows that. I am very Ronin, and I don’t watch her with baited breath. But I do worry about her, for real life reasons. Cathy lives in one of the most expensive to live in cities in the world. What she has managed to do with damn near nothing, is a true achievement. She is hard working and dogged, and refuses to surrender, and for that Cathy has my respect. But I worry, she can be crushed as easily as any other foreigner in Tokyo, and she knows that. I am truly thankful that she is a high energy type, and can stand the strain of her chosen life and the costs required to maintain all that. Be her fan, and be happy. But I continue to be frightened for her, and hope good things for her, every day. Ask Japanese is fun, but her life is in her Cathy Cat blog. And the picture is no where near as calm and serene as you seem to think. Think about her apartment, which she moved into from a larger one previous. What exactly do you think that means, in terms of costs? Use that knob on the end of your neck, and think... Thus sayeth KD7BWB, I won’t be apologizing for stomping your excess fandom into a new shape.

I think, ever since I met you in that Japan Day in Liverpool in 2013 as a very young and extremely shy Yorkshire girl just wearing my Haruhi cosplay (it was my first ever time actually wearing cosplay to an actual con), you have just kept inspiring me with each video and it amazes me how successful you have become so far and how you are experiencing so much :) You had inspired me the most to take up studying Japanese, and I have already learnt a little bit, but I am actually going to university in less than two years (after a gap year) to study Japanese! I have tried many Japanese fashions (I tried out Lolita especially, and went to a couple of tea parties and decided it wasn't my thing), but I am super into kawaii fashions instead like Fairy Kei, Decora Kei and Party Kei!!

Congratulations Cathy! You are such an inspiration to people. Actually, I want to thank you personally for inspiring the greatest changes of my life, and opening up my eyes to real love and hope for the future. I was in a very dark place and was battling giving up on life almost every day, but watching you on your journey has lit up the dark in my life. Thank you sooo much for that! I'm finally getting a grip on life and loving it again. Oh and thank you for sharing your perspective on life. That has opened my eyes and heart to overcoming a lot of fears like being myself and the way I see other people, so much so that I am a 26 year old man watching sailor moon in it's entirety for the first time. Sure some people have laughed, but I don't mind any more. I actually just finished watching ... the episode where the phantom deathlord guy tries to open the black gate, and chibi-moon gets reunited with Neo Queen Serenity. This is such a beautiful and emotional series, I cried 3 times today =°P It's official, I'm a Sailor Moon fan, but an even bigger Cathy-Cat fan! Thankyouthankyouthankyou!!!! Love lasts forever and always wins = ) Thank you for helping me see that!

Lets stay positive and find new ways to love this life.

Cathy Cat カティー Haha, you're awesome, and thank you for replying. I just remembered something that I wanted to say last night and I think I have the right words this time. Life has this pretty amazing way of showing us what we are made of. Even though it's tough and can really challenge us, love is the constant that pulls us through and shows us that love goes deeper than we know (if we choose to accept it). When we think about it, our capacity for love grows more with time. I realized from that, that life's trials, aging and life after death are things we don't need to fear, because the power of love never ends and goes so deep. It is eternal. You and Sailor Moon helped me fully realize that, and I hope and believe others will too. = ) Thank you! Sorry for being sappy and stuff. I wanted you and other people to hear this. It's such a relief, feels like I'm finally living. Keep doing what you love Cat, look forward to more of your crazy videos =P hahaha!

We've decided to study you in our psychology class (exhibitionistic behaviors) at Sonoma State University. My boyfriend had a hard time deciding if your cuteness was genuine. We both love Anime and he likes observing Cos Players. But we want to know your story of how you came to Japan, your nationality and heritage or race, your profession in Japan, do you ever get lonely, or feel unsafe from strangers or hateful people? We both wonder how you ever feel safe as you go out into the world. I look forward to learning more about yourself and especially Japan. We discovered you through "Ask Japan".
@CathyCat

You...studied me? Now that’s new! You’re making me blush! I think if you watch older and newer videos you csn See how I have progressed. Especially in my Tokyo Diary I try to show myself in my most relaxed state, generally don’t wear makeup and just chat. I am. Very excite-able so I get very quirky. Like everyone I get lonely, worried and such too. But I try to work with my negative emotions and use my videos to make myself and others feel good :)
@lhasakivan
@lhasakivan 6 жыл бұрын
Well... A group of us in our psyche class are collectively assembling a paper studying groups of people in the public eye from entertainment, instruction or service positions whereby a certain amount of initiative is necessary. To put oneself out there for a cause or self expression... (we decided Not to address persons in politics) We got the idea from a series of TedTalks on leadership that brought about positive changes in communities. Dynamic changes such as bringing viable drinking water to a small town or redeveloping urban areas to use defunct city blocks replaced with organic food producing gardens, worked on by schools & people in said community... The TedTalk asked "What are the key "criteria" or "qualities" for leadership?" "Charisma" is definitely one of them. Tho from here on out we will just observe, remain in the background and enjoy your hosting various venues and topics. In essences your Ask Japan is a sort of a cultural study on human interactions and responses stimulated by behaviors outside of the established norms. (Which leads to broader questions; how does culture & environment effect peoples responses?)

I have a dear friend also named Catherine, but we all call her "Cat" (those close to her) We went to your older videos as you've suggested. We both concur that your look cuter back then (?) If that isn't being too rude or forward...

I guess cute is a thing that changes with you and your experience in life. Especially working in Japan I have come to realize that many people have different conceptions of what is cute and beautiful. I think the challenge is to keep finding something that you like and that is cute no matter how old you get And I intend to do that.

I believe that as in the case of my father that it isn't so much our appearances or our choices in styles; but what is within our hearts that keeps us young, youthful and vivacious. Though in his 60's my father's appearance and behavior has always been... Young at Heart. When we are young this condition isn't as evident. But as we ascend in years we appear younger than what we seem? I'm told by relatives that my father has always been "this way". My mother tells us that your father never acted his age. Either having very young or much older friends & colleagues in all of his interests. We see that in You and in Asian cultures, where diet, culture, traditions and norms are prevalent in keeping us all looking younger than we appear. You look and appear early twenties, yet your confidence in hosting a very popular YT show reveals maturity, kindness and temperance. We loved your Food Comparisons with "Aoi". Your softness in working with her english is quite kind.

You're NOT 'just a crazy German girl'. You're very good at what you do. Seriously. You deserve a million subscribers. You would probably have them, but just vlogging about Japan limits your audience. But, whatever ... it is what it is. You're in Japan so that's what you're vlogging about.
