“Stranger in Moscow” was written in a hotel room in Moscow in 1993, while Michael was on his Dangerous World Tour. The song would be released as the final single off the HIStory album in November, 1996.
In his book, Man In The Music, Joe Vogel says, “Although it never made any of his greatest hits collections, ‘Stranger In Moscow’ is one of Michael Jackson’s most impressive artistic achievements and, over time, will no doubt be recognized as such.”
This is the story behind the inspiration and production of one of Michael Jackson's greatest musical moments.

Yes, hard to compare completely different songs, different moods and aestetics, but it is touching in a particular way, specially if you really know sadness, loneliness and feeling like an alien here.

First song I saw on TV after his death. And let's be frank here, he was on TV/radio and news for weeks and weeks announcing his death. I mean the entire world was mourning. No other celeb had that kind of continued tributes. The song brings a tear as MJ was associated with so many fans childhoods it's unreal. Over all generations of people. 😪

He couldn’t trust adults especially in Hollywood, so he felt more comfortable with children around and “Not” for the horrible reasons the media and money hungry wolves were portraying it to be at all. 😢

Turns out the children ( who are adults today) are still the most evil to him....I can't imagine his heart break and shatter spirit. Kids made fun of me all the time for being a MJ fan in school growing up thanks to media..... This world is a scary place. He will always be my patron Saint of humanitarianism and the definition of how to live Christ like " like a child" ✌️❤️🙏✌️❤️🙏

Music or should I say mainstream music is both a gift and a curse for a lot of these artists. It’s really sad because most of us consumers can’t see the story/source of these songs. While Stranger In Moscow is a great song and was/is recognized as such, people didn’t realize it was a cry for help. I myself have dealt with depression and instances of loneliness but man Michael really had it rough; being one of the most famous people on earth, not being able to do basic human activities like going to the grocery store and then on top of that, to go thru not just one but two trials that the media worldwide crucified him for…. Michael was a strong person fr because I couldn’t imagine how dealing with that felt and most people who go thru situations like that usually off themselves sadly but he stayed strong but unfortunately his addiction did worsen from that situation.

I have an issue with Brad's story. Every time he talks about his role in Stranger, his role gets bigger and bigger. The 1st time he talked about it in an interview not much after MJs dsath it was just 2 chords and from then on MJ directed him. Now it's like he wrote the whole song to the point Brad Sundberg has already said it's Buxer's song. A strange issue with MJs collabs...(Like Philinganes claiming he got no credit for the bridge in Don't stop -he did, just not co-writer, because it wasn't the whole bidge he added..ut was arrangement) Since MJs death many found out about themselves how it was them, who made MJs music as it is...

Brad Buxer should have gotten production credit for this song. He came up with the chord progression, did most of the arrangements, and put together the most iconic part of the song, the beatbox. He is uncredited. Sad. Even Toto guys got credited.

Jordon Chandler’s father accused Michael of molesting him. (Jordon was just a child with absolutely shitty parents, especially his father, and so was a victim, but not of Michael, but he greedy, dirtbag of a father). Jordon’s dad was “the dentist to the stars” & he is alleged to have brought Jordy to his dental office and put him under laughing gas, which can make you highly susceptible to suggestions, to get his son to say Michael molested him. I suggest everyone look up more detail about this. Also - get yourself a copy of Carrie Fisher’s book _Shockaholic_ - I recommend the audiobook, because she reads it and it adds to the stories she tells. Carrie was at one point a “patient” of Dr. Chandler, DDS. And at a time when Carrie was not sober (remember - addiction is a disease, and most if not all people relapse at least once, it’s even harder to avoid a relapse when you have other medical issues like bipolar disorder), he was her “supplier” and was clearly trying to turn Carrie into a future witness for him, as he was planning his revenge against Michael for not agreeing to invest in his screenplay. Though I’m not sure even as you hear her tell the story that she fully understood what the doc was doing. But from the beginning, even when she was still ok with getting meds from him, Dr. Chandler creeped her out. As time went own, it got worse and eventually, once he told her he was going after Michael, as she wrote, no matter how much she “needed” drugs, no drugs were worth associating with this guy. He may have set in motion a series of events that led to Michael’s death decades later, but he probably saved Carrie (though not how, as a doctor, he should have). Carrie also talks about her friend Michael, what a great dad he was, and how she spent his last Christmas Eve on Earth at his house with his children. You hear the sadness at his death in her voice, and I know at least one person who was never sure if the accusations against MJ were true or not, until she read _Shockaholic_ .
