I think many forget that this man lived in extreme pain for 25 years. To top it off, he was bald, had a skin disease, was hounded by the media, was essentially "killed," and found innocent twice and still being accused of crimes that juries determined he was innocent. Of course, poor decisions are going come and rationale thought at times is going to be absent, but this man was a fighter. He kept pushing through the pain and abandonment. No other superstar has gone through this. Not Elvis, not The Beatles, not Elton John, and they were quickly forgiven for their poor judgements, but MJ was just hammered for half his life. I will like many posts and speak on this brilliant voice until I die because MJ was a genius.

i think his last 10 years had EVEN MORE pain, with the back-crushing free fall, making him fall on painkiller addiction even more, and then... almost going to jail due to false accusations, financial struggles and insomnia

damn, it’s such a shame the show never came to fruition. I would’ve loved to have seen him do a more intimate and stripped back show, but from the look and sound of it, it seems to have evolved into more spectacle, so who knows. Thinking about how much footage the estate presumably has of him that might not ever see the light of day makes me so sad

He was in his prime too. This would have been amazing. I’ve always wanted to see Childhood live. I wish he was able to do the concert at a later date even years later. Such a shame. I wish we could see the rehearsal footage. Michael Jackson’s gift, creativity, his way of thinking and his pull on others is unmatched. Everyone wanted to perform with Michael. The new dangerous he was going to make in hbo was reused in mj and friends, jam had a spectacular new breakdown, thriller & bad had dancers since the start, billie jean had a new choreography, Michael was going to a more industrial and movie feel to that special, that's all we know about not including the setlist (Lavelle possibly has the footage of the rehearsals as well)

I was there in NY for the show. It would’ve been amazing. It was so shocking when the ambulances arrived. Next thing we were waiting outside a hospital instead of a theatre, hoping he would be okay. It would’ve been a great end to a great year for him but it was probably a lot of pressure and stress. I went to NY last year and revisited the theatre - 27 years later! Bittersweet memories. Miss you Michael 💔

Wow somehow, I missed this MJ health scare and didn't know about the ill-fated HBO special until I watched this video. I must have been in a cave in 1995. The world came damn close to losing Michael several years before 2009. It's so terrifying when you think about it that way. He was in better physical shape in 1995 than he was in 2009 however the same factors that pushed him too far during the production of This Is It seemed to be in play during the production of One Night Only. The HBO special is a greater loss than the This Is It series of planned concerts. One Night Only was going to feature some great things like a reimagining of Thriller. Hopefully the rehearsal footage can be found and turned into a streaming special so at least Michael's fans can get a glimpse of what might have been in 1995.

Doesn’t seem like him to just decide he didn’t want to do it after all that planning. Maybe he couldn’t for whatever reason? It’s also odd that the rehearsal tapes just disappeared. Prince, the ARtist, introduced this idea to Michael Jackson saying "Michael, you should do a one man show of all your hits." When Michael didn't do it, Prince later did it himself on his One Nite Only tour. As to when Prince said this it is unknown, but Prince in 1994 in New York met with MJ for a few hours and nobody knows what they talked about in that meeting, but later it was mentioned that at some time (maybe 1994 or after) Prince told MJ: "The Purple Rain singer is said to have told Michael to play a series of acoustic shows in Las Vegas to prove to the world he is still an amazing talent. A source told the New York Post newspaper: "Prince has been suggesting that Michael play a sequence of unplugged concerts in Las Vegas  just Michael and the microphone. No gimmicks, no costume changes, no smoke or mirrors, just his voice."

That was the year Prince broke with Warner and had to change his name. I think he went to MJ to both warn him and ask for advice, Prince fought for his masters and later MJ for his half of Sony/catalog.

Funny how MJ was so proud of leaving Sony records owning 1/2 of the publishing to ATV. Acknowledging Sony was upset about that. Then, later dying in unnatural circumstances only to have Sony, shortly after, buy the remaining 1/2 of MJ’s catalog and becoming sole owners. sony basically has been piggy backing off Mj’s investments. @@LockedInWrestling I believe you are confusing another concert incident which happened on tour, for this one time concert he collapsed on stage (ala fainted or passed out or had a "heart attacK" as presumed from someone on the scene) and was rushed to the hospital after rehearsals....Even Lisa his wife didn't know exactly what happened to him (she speculated drug use was the issue) and the public still don't know. The concert was just cancelled and never rescheduled....No where in this video or in the media did it state he fell on his face on steel....Wouldn't that cause a noticeable bruise on his face? He walked out smiling from the hospital.....
