Good to see your back on track with the L322. I spent 1985-94 in Oman with an original 2 door - and then on to a Mk1 4 door. Great fun bouncing around the desert and off road tracks. Weekend camping just with a tent - sleeping bags BBQ and an electric fridge in the back. Your set up is a different ball game entirely! I'm now down in the Costa del Sol with my current 2012 Westminster. Looking forward to more videos. 🙂

So great to see you back, you've done a splendid job with the L322, never lose the faith. Diff's can always be issues, can be tooth contact, slightly off, bearing preload can be a problem. I went through the same with my 3.9 EFI, they were all original with 290,000 km on them, rebuilt them with Timken bearings, didn't last a month when one of them went pop, bearing cage just broke apart, took it back to the distributor, thankfully i had the boxes, dam fake Chinese rubbish, ordered a new pinion & crown wheel, set them up the same, runs sweet, you might want to give Dave at Ashcroft's a call helped me out with shims & what not.

I had two choices, break it, or fix it, I decided to fix it. Buying another, juts buying more problems, not an option. At least I know now it’s fixed.

A LOT of work

Ouch that's a big bill, as ever with Land Rover Ownership you need to be either handy on the spanners or have a deep pocket, or a spare one in the yard to rob bits off. Good luck with your refreshed L322 thought we might bump into you in Andorra as we leave Wed for Pyrenees but good luck with the camp setups, think i would have stayed roof tent having slept in the outdoors a lot for work through my life in a variety of options, the Roof tent is the quickest and easiest and keeps your bedding out of the vehicle. Good luck the tent stretcher looks a good option, always found tarps a pain.

The RTT discussion will rumble on, too heavy up top for one, it frees up much needed space for gear. The biggest reason for switching, cover over the rear of the vehicle, and a fixed awning is not the way to go either, again, not practical, IMHO. We shall see how I get on, but this seems a good set up for me, for now. The cot tent, the Swag and a T-P tent, all options going forward, and more on that as summer approaches. 👍🏻

Welcome back Sir! I am on the same journey with my L319 and the main issue I have, is the bank account not replenishing it's self like you so ellegently put it. :) Hope it will be the most reliable L322 out there, safe adventures ahead.

This video has given me the proper fear about the costs of mine breaking in the future! glad you got it all sorted. personally i think you are going to miss your roof tent as finding a place to pitch a tent all the time is going to be a pain but i am sure your find a set up that works for you :)

I have tried to be honest with this build, about the pitfalls of L322 2nd/3rd/4th hand ownership. If you rationalise all this work, I could have put off the rear subframe issues, and saved a lot of money, BUT, it could have failed it’s MOT and I’d have been forced to do it anyway. It’s just this all came at once, but over 6 months. The turbos, well, that was probably down to me driving it when I should have pulled over when it went into limp mode, but who knows. I do now know that almost everything that could break, or needs replacing, has been dealt with, my suspension feels like new, as all the bushes and control arms, wheel bearings etc have been done, front and rear. Fingers crossed it’s good to go for another 3-5 years. Remember, this is a hobby for me, not a daily driver. I actually don’t think I’ll miss it, I like that the rood rack is free and clear again and I don’t have all extra weight up there, time will tell, but Ok with the decision at the moment. The COT set-up is very comfortable and I don’t have to clamber up and down the ladder, which is a pain, especially at night in the wet.

@@Overlanding4WD yeah it's like a new car now so worth doing. I did my first green lane the other day and loved it but it is my daily and doing off road is going to put more wear and tear on it for sure! I am committing to doing all the basic work on it myself to save cash so it's getting engine oil, power steering fluid, fuel filter etc this coming weekend and is booking in with my specialist for new rear bushings and an alignment. if that all goes well i might treat it to that back box delete you have on yours! :) be interested to see your cot tent review, looks good :)
@edwarddalton7823 Жыл бұрын
Mark, glad the L322 is fixed have you look into a 360 fox wing much simpler to setup than a tarp. Oz tent also make swags with cots or raised be frames to sleep off the ground any way hope all is well
@Overlanding4WD Жыл бұрын
I’m trying to reduce weight on the roof, so a fox wing is too big and too heavy, for me, also, the rack is 2M and those awnings are longer, so they will jut out the front, which means you catch branches etc, had one of the defender and it was a magnet for branches, forever pulling them out. The ARB swag will fit onto my Helinox cot, so, all good there, I have a jake Lah Cot Tent, review in a few weeks, which is excellent and made for the cot.

My takeaway from this video is that one goes camping in Wales at one's peril.
@Overlanding4WD Жыл бұрын
The take away is, just because you have a FSH, doesn’t mean the work was done, correctly, with the right parts, and corners cut. Wales, just the back drop.
