My husband and I did something similar... it wasn't $500 but the money we saved by requesting our guests to pay for their meals at a restaurant (in the DMV) for our reception, us paying for our wedding shower (which we basically received the money back in monetary gifts) to purchasing a $290 David's Bridal dress, hubby's tailored suit (he still wears to several events we have attended 4 years later), so the suit has paid for itself. All in all, we did not go broke, bills we still paid and we purchased our first home 14 months later. God was and still is all through our lives and marriage! Congratulations to this beautiful young couple! May God allow His presence to forever be present in their lives.

I love this. Initially, as a girl to about my warily 20s, I fantasized about a big fairytale wedding with all the bells and whistles. But now, at 32 and newly engaged, knowing the statistics on marriage and how those who spend a BAG (the avg wedding cost+) are the very couples MOST likely to divorce etc, and the fact that I want to prove to myself and my man that our marriage is the focus (not an expensive wedding), and the fact that even if you look at celebrities who very well have the financial means to have a budget-less wedding…. realize how tons of them opt for a private intimate wedding from Beyoncé, to Ariana to Issa Ray. It just all proves that wedding should be what works for you and a happy marriage should always be the focus. Congratulations to all the newly weds. Go broke for no one. And to all the couples that got married on a budget but still going strong in love and marriage…… we aspire to be like you.

I spent $30,000(every thing combined) and was separated in 6 years. I remarried and my husband said all that mattered is that he and I were there with the pastor. He didn't care to have a wedding. The marriage is what's important. We did have a wedding at the Queens Botanical gardens and a BBQ at his parents house. I did everything myself except catering. It was more than $500 but 1/3 of the amount of my first wedding. And I didn't go into debt for it. I commend this couple. I didn't care what anyone felt about my wedding and BBQ and my friends and family had the best time in the rain 🙂 God bless this couple!!!

Great interview, I love seeing Kingdom couples being obedient to God's word and love.. As a Delawarean, the cost of living is very low and there is an abundance of upper middle class black families here. We have Pharma, Banking and its close to the DMV and Philly. The taxes are low and it is less fast paced than the major cities nearby. It's typically overlooked but a lot people are doing well here.

This is so crazy i love their story . It reminds me so much of my life. My husband and i had our own houses. We wanted to be married and live together. We were planning a big wedding and decided not to because our goal was a house together. So my dress was 25 dollars and he also had a 50 suit. So we changed the plans bc he stated either a big wedding or a house . I choose the house and we had 25 family members & no friends at our wedding. I didn’t get to wear my dress because i went to get my hair done in a new $10 summer dress and we had to get to the hall. So my husband knew what color dress i had on when i left the house and found clothes to matched me. And we got married for $60 And we eat at a buffet every one paid their bills and ours. We are now 6 yrs married and in our own home together still happily married. So don’t let the world tell u what the cost of a wedding should be stick to your end goals and the love you share. Loved this! But I always struggle with the notion that there is ANY ring that can truly capture a woman's worth. ESPECIALLY a godly woman. So just get the ring that you can afford and rock out. It's never about the ring. It's about the heart posture of the king who is GIVING the ring. Countless women out here with IGNORANT sized rings on their fingers. I can definitely relate to this married couple and I wasn’t shocked at all that they spent $500 on getting married considering my husband and I spent $350 total when we got married for everything including the location of the wedding and small gathering afterwards! And we just celebrate our 10yr anniversary this year! I’m glad to know that we was not the only ones that felt like we could still have a nice budget friendly wedding that wouldn’t break the bank!!!!
