Facts about different phenomena change with time. Sometimes what we think is the absolute truth is really just what we've come to understand so far. "You only zing once" might just be a misinterpretation. I'm not really on board with the reincarnation theory, because there is nothing to support it. What is evident is that Dracula's zing with Ericka remains one-sided for most of the film. But let's think. In over a century Drac had not encountered anyone he could share a second zing with, but his mind and heart were laser focused on Mavis. Then she found love with Johnny and didn't need him as much anymore. And then in a short time, Dennis comes into the picture and Drac becomes obsessed with him. He had to break away from those attachments and let himself be open to the possibility of love, even if it wasn't another zing. Likewise, Ericka didn't zing in return until she let go of everything she had been taught and fully accepted the idea of being with a monster. And monsters did segregate themselves from humans for centuries, cutting them off as possible matches and further limiting the likelihood of another zing. Not to mention most humans did show an unwarranted hatred for monsters for the longest time. So yeah, maybe the answer is that you not only have to find the right person, but also be open to experiencing new love with, AND not care with whom it happens.

I loved the interpretation of his theory, even though the theory of reincarnation is very interesting, it makes more sense that he moved on and opened up to a new love

From my perspective, maybe Mavis’s mother only ever zinged once and therefore thought that it could happen only once, but in reality since love is easily made, given and free finding a zing isn’t that hard.

It could be that Mavis' mother only had sex with Dracula in life, like the other monsters too, this explains why they consider it to only happen once

@@HorseAnimated maybe. But imho this theory has a hole cause actually other monsters seems familiar with zing either. That ofc could be just because Dracula told them about it but it's not fitting enough for me

Yeah know. I can accept that. He may have actually moved on for only he knows for how long it took and it took the right person to feel the empty once reserved for one lost. Just remember if she was a 1 in a million in a world of billions there thousands like her, but those thousands are still 1 in a million to find another like diamonds on a beach full of glistening sand.

I don't have anything against DracxErica. I mean come on, Drac has the right to have his happy ending after tragic death of his true zing. What bothers me is that they used it again. It would be OK if they put it in simple attraction. Besides Erica IS kindhearted. It's to see when she hears Drac had to raise Mavis alone. Her reaction is geniue like "that poor guy had to go through a lot...maybe I'm wrong"

I like to think monsters can experience a second zing if they meet two criteria’s: 1. Their first zing passed away. 2. The monster in question is ready to look for a new partner. Most times the first one occurs but the monsters are so sure they only get one zing that they’re in denial that they are ready for a new relationship.

I think the zing from alucard and Erica was right. Maybe she is reincarnation. Just the environment that a soul is born into. She probably is still considered a nice and sweet purse. It is just all the training and thoughts that were put in her head from young age

I agree with first theory. Besides, I actually think that it's nice when franchises fo into new directions. I honestly thought the "zing" once felt pushed too much, since several people are just as happy in second marriages. It only got more so with them trying to push it with Winnie and Dennis, who were like six or seven and five respectively. Besides, I feel if franchises go on for a long time, something has to challenge the characters in their "everything stays the same mindset" Sometimes these will be divisive like Woody leaving in Toy Story 4, or changes to established characters like Steven Universe had in later installments for its protagonist. People don't stay the same if new things happen to them, and if they are going to just do the same old thing and experience the same shenanigans, that's not as interesting. Characters change along with their lives, especially their needs. Hotel Transylvania 3 is my favorite of the sequels, largely because it doesn't have Dracula fall back into the same old like in the first or fourth movie of his annoyance with humans. It's the only sequel that tried to really show Drac wasn't who he was at the beginning of the first movie.
