I think Roy answered to that particular general who got the fake info in FMA 2003 instead of General Grumman. In case you wondering who that random guy is. Yet another character with a completely different value from 2003. And I REALLY love that about the 2 versions. Almost NONE of the characters have the same value aside Ed, Al, and Mustang’s crew. Also I’m pretty sure the two hands in the outro are Trisha and Hohenheim’s.

I don’t know if you noticed but between this and the last episode there’s been a bit of a timeskip (approximately something between a couple of weeks and a couple of months). It’s hard to see at first glance but easiest way to see is that both Edward and Winry has matured since just one episode and Ed in particular has grown a lot (even over growing Winry).

Its more like six months have passed. Ed growing a few inches (enough to finally be taller than winry), a reference in an upcoming episode (redacted because spoilers), and the fact that winter never appeared in Central (it's now Spring) all point to that outcome. That and there's an actual canon timeline with dates of events online lol

Grumman is definitely a person to be reckoned with. The senior staff and father tried to recruit him like they did raven but he refused which is why he isn’t higher ranked. Despite that he’s still higher ranked than both Mustang and Olivier, and if he wasn’t backing the rebellion the eastern part of the plan would be far less effective. He could’ve stayed out of things and retired with a strong rank and career but like he said Roy reignited his ambition and now he’s ready to make a play himself. You have to wonder what the result would be if all or more of the senior staff were more like him.

I love the juxtaposition that's introduced by Greeling in the episode, that even something we call a sin is not as black and white as it's made out to be. Greed can but the want to protect, ambition to achieve. Sloth can be the understand of the value of rest, to not be hasty with what you do, to enjoy life. Lust can simply be love, desire for the embrace of another. Wrath can be the want for justice, to right wrongs and punish the wicked. Gluttony can be the simple desire to indulge in a good meal, to savor the pleasures of life. Pride can be as simple as appreciating the things you've done, holding yours or other achievements up as something worth celebrating. Envy can be striving to better yourself, to raise yourself up to the desired greatness of another. Envy's still a little bitch though.

I like how the homunculi full names are the base sin and then the pitfall of too much of that sin. Pride the Arrogant, Wrath the Furious, Sloth the Indolent. Greed the Avaricious. A bit of Greed or Sloth or Pride can be a good thing. It's when they're taken to excess they become the negative lifestyle. Avarice, indolence, fury. Love that writing choice

"Greed may not be good, but it's not bad either" Him saying that is pretty awesome because Greed the character, throughout the show, has shown that he's not a "good guy" really, but he's not bad either. He's a very grey character who is in-between. And obviously he's traveling with Ed right now, but his goals aren't necessarily in line with the good guys completely, but he's not with the bad guys either. Awesome for him to say that.

If you think about it, Fullmetal Alchemist doesn’t have a lot of fan service, at least not in the traditional sense where they just do it for fun/views. I think this is the only moment in the show where the intent is 80% comedic and 20% plot serious outside of that small bit when Havoc admits love for big breasts.

The issue with greed is that the implication of concentrating wealth can put it in conflict with others. The utility of good or bad then aligns with being in or ex-cluded from the circle of ownership at the center of greed's pull. Which also makes it a tool to help dissolve powerful blocks of people. By encouraging the atomization of intent you can inject a little more chaos. Like randomizing the domains in a permanent magnet the aggregate effects begin to cancel each other out. When the utility of an organization begins to fail it may begin to fall apart from the inside. Why hammer at the side of a mountain if you can encourage it to turn itself into gravel?

You know something small I love about this anime? The characters do subtly age a bit. Since they are somewhat young still and teens, any small age growth should be seen more. And they do it pretty subtly overall. Winry and Ed both look older here than they did in let's say, episode 6 or around there. Their faces and just somehow overall appearance really shows it's been some time since the start of the show. The not so subtle difference now though is that Ed is now much closer to Winry's height than he was at the start of the anime, and is even maybe a little taller as well. :) I know this is far fetched, you may not see this comment, and I don't know how far ahead you exactly are, but coming up the episode TITLES can be pretty spoilery as well, like more so than any intro in the series. Maybe avoid the titles somehow, especially once you start getting towards the 50s? Not all of them are spoilery but like episode 56 I would say, if you want to remain completely unspoiled going into it, maybe try to skip over the title card?

This is definitely one of my favorite episodes. As far as the intel goes, while it's true it was intentionally leaked in order to try and assassinate Bradley, as far as I know it does basically represent the plan of the North (Miles), East (Grumman), and Mustang for their coup d'etat.

Each of the sins are only sins due to excess, not because they're inherent bad. There's nothing wrong with feeling angry, until you allow that angry to cause you to lash out on others who don't deserve it. There's nothing wrong with feeling hungry, until you eat beyond the point where you're satiated while destroying your own health. There's nothing wrong with feeling jealous, until you allow that jealousy to make you feel entitled to something that's not yours. There's nothing wrong with feeling lazy, until you shirk your responsibilities onto others for the sake of personal gratification. There's nothing wrong with feeling passion, until that passion becomes an obsession which consumes your mind in its entirety. There's nothing wrong with feeling desire, until you start to care more about fulfilling those desires over forming bonds with others. There's nothing wrong with feeling confident, until it deludes you into thinking you're a perfect being, beyond all criticism. So while they are all sins, they are only sins if you allow them to control your life, rather than possessing enough personal responsibility to manage those feelings to something that allows you to live a fulfilling life in spite of their presence.
