There is so much misconception as to what being an underdog truly means. I'm glad you made this video
@mariapazgonzalezlesme4 жыл бұрын
I... never though about this before. If you think about more deeply, the people that have "Talent" or "Gifted" have it the worst, they remain stagant. Stuck in one place. While, people that work a lot or doesn't have any real talent, have the opportunity to grow and space to change. Also, I like your style of narration. It feels like you are telling an story or memory rather than a simple explanation. Something that people can connect with.
@MrTheWaterbear4 жыл бұрын
Well, no, not really. You need both to be the best. People with talent have potential to be the best if they add the hard work.
@wolfywise4 жыл бұрын
I never stagnated. The things I was really into that I was talented for I would poor all my heart into. This worked well until I moved to Texas and everyone in the school was at least 4 years behind me and the school never tried to keep me busy with work for my level. West Virginia bent over backwards to make sure I was constantly advancing. Going to a school where they didn't do that severely crippled my education to the point I basically quit senior year. Only got a diploma because I threatened to drop out if they didn't just let me at that point.
@MrTheWaterbear4 жыл бұрын
@@wolfywise Wow, props to West Virginia! I wouldn't have expected that State in particular to be accommodating. I hope you've gotten to do some fun things you're passionate about since then :)
@wolfywise4 жыл бұрын
@@MrTheWaterbear West Virginia is very wrongly categorized as a stupid state. This is a state that where most athletic and sports team members would have 4.0 GPAs because it was a requirement to be good at school to be in literally any extracurricular program. You weren't allowed to be dumb unless you had brain damage or something.
@MrTheWaterbear4 жыл бұрын
@@wolfywise Makes sense, but it is also one of the poorest States on average. You benefit hugely from a good education for long-term self-sustainability. Sports is not a guaranteed career. Best of luck in your endeavors :)

It's true. This was one of those series I picked up on a whim because I'd never heard of it, and I don't regret it in the slightest. Natsuo is an utter fascinating protagonist, especially because she's not really a good person. She starts the series with one friend who flat tells her she has a terrible personality, views people as fodder to test new moves on, and her open animosity towards others in on full display from start to finish. Yet the struggle she goes through and the problems that arise from her natural talent, the isolation from her own family for doing what she thought was right, and her sheer frustration with the boredom that comes from never having to try to be good at something make her incredibly engaging. This series deserves to have more people read it.

As a guy who trains mma, I got to admit that Teppuu, alongside with All rounder Meguru, have moved and helped me a lot mentally in my own journey towards my goals. Not just in combat sports, but in life itself. I highly recommend everyone, especially people who are interested in realistic fighting, to check both mangas out. Even though the ending of Teppuu was apparently rushed, because the author had personal problems, I still think that it's a beautifully drawn and detailed manga, where everyone can have a lot of fun following Natsuo's story.

Thanks for the amazing video! I love martial arts manga, so I’m definitely picking this up. As someone who’s been considered “talented” their whole life, I’ve found that you fall into complacency and stagnation, and then when you are forced to deal with real life, you have nothing to fall back on, since you haven’t built up any sort of work ethic. So I definitely like this story’s outlook on talent.

I really hope we see that second Teppu video some day. This one was great!
@wolfywise4 жыл бұрын
This is scarily relatable for me as someone who was born with that same ability to easily pick up anything I tried my hand at. Even right down to the detail where you have greater understanding but lack any of the technical knowledge. You just get it. No studying or reading the fine print. You just get it. Which is why people with talent often make terrible teachers because they can't even explain why they're so good. This was a problem that plagued me when people would ask me where I learned how to draw. The best I could ever respond with was "Nowhere...I just can." A lot of people didn't take kindly to thay and would accuse me of tracing or other shite because they couldn't comprehend such ability. Tbf I couldn't comprehend it either. This kind of talent applied to everything mostly. There were very few things I could never grasp. I didn't know or understand how or why, it just came so naturally to me that it was weird to me when everyone else would struggle. "Math is hard?" was a very common question out of confusion for me.
@wolfywise4 жыл бұрын
Whats worse is because you have that giga understanding, when you try to learn all the technical details, your brain tries to process EVERYTHING at once and it causes severe system lag leading to whitenoise thoughts. Which is why I never studied for tests or anything. Doing so often made me worse. Though that may be the autism talking.
@RichArchilles3 жыл бұрын
@@wolfywise I have that very same problem. My brain is quick at making patterns, and it's become a habit of it to do so. So while it's helped me adapt to situations on the fly, once I make a concious effort to comprehend something, I go into overdrive trying to apply everything that could work at once, then spend even more time deciding out of all the paths I could could take which would be the best one.

@@wolfywise I'm similar when it comes to math. I can't imagine having to tutor someone in high school that doesn't understand square roots or a basic graph, because I already had a strong intuition for how these things worked before even having to learn them in school

At long last, someone covered Teppuu. I've been waiting for years to see videos on this topic. Criminally underrated manga. And as cruel as it sounds, I believe that it's in big part because manga/anime industry bigshots know that Natsuo is the least appealing type of female character, at least to the target demographic of 90% of modern shows.

Been years since I read this manga, but the love I have for it never stops, so I'm glad someone made a video about it. Still wishing there would be an official English release because I feel like it would do well here in the west. As for the theme, it's what made me love the series so much. Someone who is talented competing with someone who is also talented but with hard work and joy for it. Not a lot of media show this, and I would dare say it's even worse in the dancing movies. Dance movies irk me because the "underdog" of the story beat the talented dancers all from a few months of training. That doesn't work in real life no matter how hard someone works against someone who is both talented and did the hard work. I would love to see a dance film where the newbie does put in the work and possibly talented, but still loses in the end while still having love for the dance.

I just found about this series and I was so sad when I "finished" it. You can tell the author wanted to do more with this series and its characters than what he was ultimately capable of providing. It sucks that he suffered from health issues and had to cut this series early. Also, why do videos of Teppu make it seem like this is a dark manga lol. It's actually pretty light hearted.
@surelock32213 жыл бұрын
I found it to be a bit dark because Natsuo clearly has her inner demons. One thing I would have liked to see more of is what motivated her to stay with the gym at the end, or why did she get into MMA in the first place? As far as I can tell, the initial reason was to beat Mawatori and "wipe that small off her face", but is she really that sadistic? Maybe I'm just being dumb and forgetting some key details

A man fights to protect himself and his loved ones. Not only, or not at all, for strength. Also men’s sports is usually watched more because men are physically stronger. In a sport of competition, you would WANT to see the strongest compete for victory. It’ll be vice versa if women were stronger.
